Did you try appealing the decision? People do have success when it goes to an independent tribunal. If it’s been over 13 months since the last decision you will need to make a fresh claim rather than appealing. And although you can claim OIP while working, the DWP can use your work against you in the decision. You might be successful this time if you’re not working. Try and get some support from Citizens Advice.

Ladies: do you wear make up to work?

I’ve never worn a full face and there was only one woman in my office that did. I do tinted moisturiser, bit of blush, eyebrow gel, mascara and something on my lip but not a full lippy, a gloss or tinted balm.

Parents of small children, when do you have time for playing video games?

Posted by Key-Specific7807@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 355 comments

Koholinthibiscus@reddit

I started playing video games again when my kid was about a year old. Thankfully me and my husband are into games so we’d play co op together or sit together on the sofa playing different systems (one time during covid we got another monitor down in the living room, that was fun.) Maybe if your partner isn’t in to it you could game every other night? Or see if she wants to try a couch co op game with you? Me and the husband stayed up till 2am one time this week playing power wash simulator 2 listening to our favourite podcast 😂

Yeah I never said it was more suitable. I live in a coastal town too. Even in the 90s/early 2000s we were always moved on from wherever we congregated, music or no music. People will always complain about teenagers tbh

Part-time job in a (mostly) female office. Colleagues often have very vulgar conversations and make inappropriate comments towards me. Is this normal in UK workplaces?

That’s the thing, I’ve literally never heard any woman talking about their sex lives at all in the workplace. I would personally deem it badly inappropriate, even if I became super good friends with someone, those types of conversations would be reserved for out of work talk. Maybe I’m the odd one out because I find it to be uncommon?!

My 2nd job was in a hotel where I was a waitress and subject to sexual remarks from the chefs (at 15) and was accused of stealing by the head waiter. His story was not corroborated by the fact he said I put money in my pocket, but I didn’t have pockets in my uniform. Turns out he was the one stealing. lol. All males.

Eeeh I’m sorry but as a 39 year old woman, who’s had a job since I was 15, most of them in a skewed to female work environment, I have never been in a job where women talk about sex like that in the workplace.

Do you have a walking pad or a standing bike you can use in the house? Just to get your heart rate up for cardiovascular health? Can be just 15 mins a day? Some people have also said slowing down and embracing it works and I agree. Get cosy; hot drinks, twinkly lights, comfort TV. There’s a book called ‘Wintering: the power of rest and retreat in difficult times’. Also a SAD light and booking a holiday in Jan/Feb if you have the capacity! Good luck! It’s been a real stinker so far hasn’t it?!

Ooh yeah it’s hard. I’m normally ok at this time and I embrace the cosy nights with candles, skincare, books etc but it really hits me in January, that’s a long arse month. Have you tried getting one of those SAD therapy lamps? Could you still get out in the crap weather if you wrap up warm? I find a moody walk with a spooky podcast/audio book to have amazing vibes. Could you try to put your phone somewhere hard to reach with notifications off while you’re reading? Sounds like you’re already doing a lot to combat it, good luck!

What one thing in the UK has improved in the last 25 years that noticeably improves everyday life?

It’s on the north east coast, near Newcastle which is a great city too. Coastal towns are Whitley Bay, Cullercoats and North Shields. North Shields has a nice buzz about it as there’s lots of work getting done on the high street and celebrations for its 800th birthday. Lots of beautiful murals getting painted on sides of buildings. N Shields is historically deprived so has its issues, like all places, but the coast and the city make up for it and I think we’re a friendly bunch. There’s always groups and community initiatives to join.

There’s been a real outdoor recreation renaissance in my little coastal town. Loads more joggers, cyclists, cold water swimmers, surfers, kayakers etc. lived here all my life and so have my parents and while yeah it was always busier in the summer holidays in the 60s on a hot day, there’s always loads of people in the water and in the coast all year round now that you just never saw even 15-20 years ago. It’s nice to see, builds community and the coffee shops are always quite full even during the week days.

Ooh can I ask; do people who get those teeth have to get maintenance surgery? Where do they go for it? What if their circa change and they can’t get to Turkey? And god knows what dentistry will look like in the U.K. it might be too expensive to get done here? It seems wild that someone would file down perfectly healthy teeth tbh

Went on a tour of the Atlas Mountains near Marrakesh. Stunning and fascinating part of the world. There was a couple who were visibly uncomfortable and disgusted with everything they saw, including being received into a Berber home and having delicious breads and mint tea. Drove around and went past a home that Richard Branson owned. The guy loudly declared ‘why would HE want to live somewhere like this?!’ With a curled lip and a nasty laugh. Thoroughly ashamed.

People literally hate us. In terms of public perception we rank lower than drug addicts, there was a study. What I’ve experienced is me telling someone in a setting where I need to let them know and they’re defensive immediately. They try to ‘get one over on me’ and start an “debate” When I defend by moral stance which is evidence based, they then act all offended as if I started the debate and ask theoretical questions which has no bearing on either of our lives. Or all of a sudden become the champion of indigenous tribes and believe I think they should starve to death or something? If none of that happens the very least is someone saying ‘oooh I couldn’t LIVE without cheese’ like, I didn’t ask. Just say ‘oh right, we’ll book a restaurant that accommodates thanks for letting me know’. We undermine their cognitive dissonance. Which they want to keep because bacon is so lovely even though pigs are more intelligent than dogs, are treated terribly, killed in gas chambers and it’s ruining the nation’s health outcomes.
