I’m baffled at how people get jobs so easily. How do people do it?

Stop. I’m neurodivergent, and left school with shitty GCSE’s over 20 years ago. God I’m old. I was bullied, I was also dealing with being the survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I’ve since successfully seen that person go to prison.  I’ve had a lot, and I mean alot of jobs over the years, but have worked in Clincial Research in a senior position for over ten years, all of the back of starting from the bottom and working my way up.  If you believe your neurodivergence is a barrier, it will be a barrier. If you lead with this in jobs, it will be a barrier, if you believe you can’t do anything because of your neurodivergence, it will be a barrier.  This isn’t having a a go.  If you have continuously been unsuccessful in getting jobs, interviews, agency work, or voluntary work, then there is something falling flat at the starting line.  1. Do you freshen up, shave, sorted your hair, smell fresh when presenting yourself ?  2. Do you dress well when presenting yourself ?  You can obtain suit sets, good quality trousers, shirts , ties etc from charity shops really cheaply.  3. Do you give up at the first hurdle ?  I ask this question because of a response to agency work. Agencies have multiple clients, if they opted to go with a different temp than you, that’s fine, but there will be more opportunities with other clients.  Don’t pigeon hole yourself into one type of work, be open to everything. Whilst lots of temp roles can be frustrating, it’s an excellent opportunity to build experience across different roles. You should be able to garner opportunities to be able to provide answers to questions about working as a team, working buy yourself, problem solving, dealing with difficult situations etc.  4. Have you spent time with a job coach at the job centre? They will be able to give you feedback on some of the above, but also put you onto supportive courses, including improving your CV etc. 5. You are still young, and if you have an inkling for something you’re interested in doing, you have the opportunity to train. Make the opportunities and help put yourself on the right path.  What does your heart feel interested in, what is your desire if you had the opportunity ?  Something I need to make clear, your self-loathing is self-fulfilling. As a species , we’re naturally inclined to focus on negative stimuli, it’s a survival trait from when we used to be chased by predators. If you believe there’s no hope, or that you’re shit, you don’t create avenues to battle that perception. It’s self-fulfilling.  It may be worth speaking with the social prescriber at your GP practice, they may be able to support signposting you to services that can help you battle a manage this. Be open to CBT or talking therapies to support you in challenging this perception of yourself.  You matter. You should need some guiding framework to help you move forwards.
