I am not saying it’s worthless. It protects from minor runs. It is a good circuit breaker but it is not foolproof, and people need to understand even good things require awareness. You are basically a proponent of people not trying to understand the underpinnings of things. Truly the MAGA way.

The FDIC has the authority to borrow up to $100B “at a time” from the treasury. So if they are not borrowing from the FED that would bring us back down to \~2.4% of deposits. Beyond that to borrow more from the US Treasury it requires an act of congress. They do have supplementary lines of “credit” they can use to bring the total up to about $1T under catastrophic conditions, which would mean \~10% of deposits covered.

Read the other thread branching from my original comment with the person who claims to work at the FDIC. But yes, that is the jist. The FED has $500B in emergency funds from the 2020 CARES act. That would cover just 6% of those deposits total. Beyond that the FED would have to start diluting the dollar by printing money. My further point is that when we reach that tipping point the FED will be overwhelmed with requests for emergency funds from a multitude of sources. Nothing in this scenario implies only one element failing, this would be a systemic failure.

No, it will not cover ALL $250,000 deposits. I am ONLY speaking about $250,000 deposits not those that exceed that. It will cover 1.42% of those $250,000 deposits. I am not referring to the New York–based excess deposit insurer. I am just speaking of what the FDIC has available to cover the FDIC $250,000 coverage. Only 1.42% actually has money available to cover it is there is a run. The fund had \~$140B on insured deposits of $10T. Just those insured funds.

I understand that. My point is only 1.42% of those all those insured deposits are backed by actual money in the DIF fund. It provides only minor protections against bank runs. Even as it stand NOW.

What is that emergency fund out of curiosity? A lot of the time people reference general slush funds, which is fine when only one group is reaching for it, but in time of economic strife, the likelihood of multiple groups reaching for those same finds jump. Please enlighten me as to the what the emergency fund is pulled from.

I like France 24, but it is mostly EU centric. It does cover Africa well. BBC is larger, but not as good in my opinion. Honestly getting news from outside your country is really good to get a clear picture of many things. It‘s not like there is no bias, but getting things from a few different angles helps you see it clearer. I‘ll look at NHK World, thanks.

You were fine until you said implied they were using the wrong semantics… Cook: 1. To prepare (food) for eating by applying heat.  2. To prepare or treat by heating.  "slowly cooked the medicinal mixture." 3. To alter or falsify so as to make a more favorable impression; doctor.  "disreputable accountants who were paid to cook the firm's books." It does not **need** to include liquid. Land dwellers can well be cooked. I think you might be thinking Boiled or Sous Vide.

The problem with this is that we had ICE going into US neighborhoods and they could not even manage to placate the US population, they were immediately adversarial and don have any idea how to deescalate. The US military are not trained for public outreach or peacekeeping, they‘re trained to see everyone as combatants. As are ICE on a less skilled level. The open arms will only last until they start getting itchy trigger fingers with non-combatants. Or bombing more schools.

This is on point. Things become more obvious when you take out the rhetoric clouding the true underlying rationale. I think on your last point though this administration is on board dividing things up like that. That is also why they are generally making moves on this hemisphere, and have pulled back from Ukraine. Central and South America has always been a very active goal for US control since the 60‘s. Trump would love to hang out at Mar A Lago or Epstein Island with Putin if he could.

To be clear the US was “not involved” in many places where we supplied the arms, training, military contractors, mercenaries and logistical support. There is a difference between really being not involved and cosplaying not being involved. Like Russia is not involved in racking up a lot of vertical frequent flier miles.

Out of curiosity where did you see that reported? New capacity of a non-negligible amount requires big investments ($billions), I am curious where it says something different? And “getting more machines” means actually placing orders and then making large very, very specialized machinery. There is not just a surplus of them hanging out collecting dust in a warehouse somewhere. And you think they can just shove 20x the machinery into tight cleanrooms? Not a warehouse floor like you are making autos? Here just look at the first 13 pages of this: [https://www.micron.com/content/dam/micron/educatorhub/fabrication/micron-intro-to-fabrication-presentation.pdf](https://www.micron.com/content/dam/micron/educatorhub/fabrication/micron-intro-to-fabrication-presentation.pdf) I am not saying memory manufactures are not cashing in on the squeeze, what I am saying is that even if they wanted to ease prices, it would take a lot $$$$$ and time to up production. And in the past memory manufactures themselves got burned when they added manufacturing capacity and prices got so low die to the glut, that their margins were crippling them.

From what I have seen reported companies that produce memory had begun switching a lot of production to HBM3 (Specialized high speed RAM being used in AI servers) to fill AI data-center orders. At the same time it seems that companies that produce DRAM chips want to "maximize profitability" and not increase their overall production capabilities (Use CapEx to boost production facilities). In other words they want to keep memory production tight so, prices stay steady or climb. Plus new facilities don't happen overnight Their logic makes SOME sense as they don't want to build very costly facilities to then glut the market with memory, and eventually end up in a situation of TOO much capacity if/when demand tapers. I will add that in the past there were memory gluts where companies were struggling to survive and as such supply was so high memory was selling at just a bit above what it cost to sell. End result, consumers end up fighting with AI companies for the limited capacity that already exists, driving prices up. A lot of this bears a bit of a resemblance to the real estate market, and the companies with deep pockets (of leveraged money) that were able to come in and buy existing stocks, in tight markets, thus pushing market prices up. I think retail channels did not realize this was happening until stocks started not being replenished, that would have been some time in June or July.

Honestly coming from any language which uses class declarations this structure makes a lot of sense and will only gain in size advantages as size of data goes up. But really you had me at being able to add comments. :) The one thing I would add for much better sizes on large lists of items is a something, like lets call it a “Class Group”, so instead of: class Order: index, items, total class Product: index, name, price, quantity Order( "ord-123", [ Product(1,"Widget",19.99,2), Product(2,"Gadget",29.99,1), Product(3,"Gizmo",39.99,1) ], 109.96 ) ——- You have something like: class Order: index, items, total class Product: index, name, price, quantity Order( "ord-123", [ Product < (1,"Widget",19.99,2), (2,"Gadget",29.99,1), (3,"Gizmo",39.99,1) > ], 109.96 ) Not a big reduction in this but in situations where you have hundreds of “Products”, you save quite a bit, plus you really don‘t reduce readability. All in all I like this format.

I don’t disagree that the US has used covert ops to shift policy all over the world for decades. What I am saying is that even the pretense of doing things for the greater good is being worn thin. Is that good or bad depends on if you are a country who can now clearly see the emperor is naked as a jaybird, and can’t be trusted to keep even a semblance of decorum, stability and assurances. I mean these are supposed to be adults with some foresight. From a purely pragmatic viewpoint, if I was one of those countries I would try to find better partners who’s interests align with my own. Rather than placating this administration and wasting time and effort building a relationship that is akin to one with a schizophrenic cat operating in free for all, take what you can mode.

Yes, that is absolutely true. Whether a good or bad person hands people food, they will gain some amount of goodwill for that action. This administration is run by simple minded people who never did understand soft power diplomacy, and the importance of a general consistency in policy. Even if they don’t admit it openly, countries / companies are now actively looking for ways to replace the US for any critical matters, as it is too unpredictable.
