Baths use way more than you think, also as a family of 2 adults we use the dishwasher and washing machine 1-2 times a week, so your usage does sound higher than most.

What preparation should you take to make losing your phone less painful?

Posted by GlumAd9856@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 30 comments

CautiousCapsLock@reddit

Use different access code to your phone than you do for banking apps, if possible enable biometric ID to access certain apps and folders, ensure you have a quick method of disabling the device via another person or phone. Make sure that your digital cards and payment methods are available if you lose the device. Enable any stolen device protections on the device itself.

I mean for a fairly fit person that doesn’t run it’s not impossible, I went from running the occasional 5k a couple times a year to doing a half marathon in just under 2.5 hours without prior training

Do you think we will hit £2/litre on diesel before fuel duty is cut or oil drops?

Posted by YouHaveShitBreath@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 318 comments

CautiousCapsLock@reddit

That demand is only marginally up from peacetime as these things use the same fuel for training as they do at war generally. But yes the military will dictate priority over civilian use for fuel access especially the kerosene based stuff

CautiousCapsLock@reddit

Yes, I don’t think fuel duty will be cut but oil prices will drop first, there is an element here that Iran is targeting other countries oil exporting platforms and also blocking the strait of Hormuz is what’s causing the oil price to go up. Exports are down and so is the ability to move it once it’s on a ship. It’s just riding the storm for the time. It’s certainly expected to not drag at this stage, depends on the US negotiating really, and subsequent military action if the talks fail to get the strait opened and de mined

What do couples mean when they talk about going shopping for engagement rings?

Posted by 074DanBurn058@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 142 comments

CautiousCapsLock@reddit

An engagement shouldn’t be a surprise, a proposal should be in my opinion, couples should talk about getting married, the implications and benefits and the downsides, like any major life decision. I went ring shopping with my partner to get an idea of what styles, what to avoid etc. she found the ring she wanted on that trip then pointed it out as the style and metal she wanted later I bought it then I proposed to her with it when she wasn’t expecting it.

At what age do you let your kids “play out” without an adult?

Watches are generally cheaper than phones, less targeted and much easier for a child to keep a track of than a 5/6 inch second hand smart phone or hand me down smart phone from a parent

AirTag won’t work rurally, they require an iPhone to be near to them to report the approx location. If you’re tech minded you can get Apple Watches for kids with super cheap esims, set them up on your iPhone as a kids watch and it acts like a tracker, you can restrict app access and set school time when it’s just a watch only, and allows them to call you through it also if they need help. Think of it like cooking a recipe, you know what ingredients you are putting into the recipe you are following but you might not read the ingredients on the packet of whatever you are putting into your recipe. Devs use packages built by other people to enable functions in their code but might not fully read and understand the code of that package

Does UK have its own Nuclear weapons?

Posted by Mundane-Dirt-4077@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 13 comments

CautiousCapsLock@reddit

The UK has its own nuclear weapons, production is mostly American and they’re serviced by the Americans but they can be used without American authorisation and they currently have no kill switch technology in place, however as they support them and service them, they can effectively kill the use of them long term by withdrawing support for them.

I might have misunderstood your dual fuel requirement, the gas2coal uses gas to heat the charcoal up in a 3 inch deep tray, if you want pure gas, just pull the charcoal tray out and place the gas diffusers on and use gas directly against the underside of the bbq platen
