Does your company recognise long time service with a financial bonus?

I’ve just worked 20 years for an international company and the only recognition I got was a short email saying something like, congratulations on 20 years it hasn’t gone unnoticed. And that was it. Talking to my daughter her friend has just done 10 years at their company, another international company, and they got £1000 bonus.
I wasn’t expecting anything so it’s not me morningi was just quite surprised at their bonus. So I’m not looking for company names but does your company give a bonus for time served?

we get a £50 voucher at 10 years and a £100 voucher at 20 years, but you have to decalre it and pay tax I believe.

Our company do give out £50 for 5 years and speeds up so £700 for 40 years ect for service but they make you buy from set categories such as dining out, theme park ect but in one transaction not multiple places and not a supermarket/clothing/tech ect and then once you submit the receipt they will put it back into your wages. So you get shafted on tax and NI. Some guys are hitting 45 years service and cannot afford to even spend the long service award as it means going out and spending £700+ in one transaction!

A few hundred pounds at 20,30 and 40 years. Accompanied with a lunch. The lunch is organised and with others also having long time service. A day off, taxi to venue, food and drink and taxi home. Partners are welcome too. A nice token of appreciation.

We get to select a gift from a catalogue. At my 5 year I selected a Le Creuset roasting pan. The value of available gifts seems to be between £50 to £150, so not great.

Is the leave persistent? We get 1 day extra for every 5 years but only in the year of the work anniversary, it’s not culmulative the following years which I thought was odd

It's fundamentally not based on age, though.
A newer employee in their 50s wouldn't have it, while someone who joined at 22 might.

Of course it can be related to age. If you employ a 17 year old there is no way they are old enough to have served 5 years, let alone 10 or 20.
I’m not saying I agree with it, but it’s quite common advice now given by HR consultants

I've seen things suggesting that having holiday allowance tick up over more than 5 (or maybe 10) years could be seen as indirect age discrimination, because it isn't possible for a younger person to have been there that long.
Even though people of the different ages with the same start date would have the same - it disproportionately disadvantages young people.

You get a small bonus for first few years e.g. £50 for a year, £75 for 2 years then more 5, 10, 15 years etc goes up to £1500 I think.

Yes. 10 years and we get the ability to claim a few hundred quid for receipts from a weekend away. 15 years and it's a little more. 20 years we get a week off and some kind of budget for similar. 25 years and you get a month's paid sabbatical.

30 years, £100 voucher choice from one of those sites you can choose what you'd like. Received in Feb still haven't bothered redeeming it.

if you search on that site you can usually turn it into a voucher for amazon or other sites, as in it was £50 you can "buy" 2x £20 and a £10 voucher to shop elsewhere (usually amazon)

A former colleague got a plastic pen on a little stand for 35 years. All of £5 in cost. I've told this story before but I know of a place where the reward was one week off for each year at 10 years or something. They had to stop because nobody who took it ever ended up coming back. They'd all quit just before return. Presumably they noticed that they were no longer miserable because of the job and decided to choose happiness.

In those days long service employees received a gold watch upon retirement. At the time I thought it was a pittance for such devoted service.

We receive a leather wallet type thing with a certificate, which has a code to redeem on a website. There's various things to choose from like designer sunglasses, watches, various kitchen appliances, gold necklaces etc.
I recently redeemed my 20 years service award for a Ninja smoothie maker. It wasn't the most expensive thing on there but I figured it would be something I'd actually use (been meaning to get one for a while anyway). This is only something that has started in the last few years which is why my 20 years was my first, but going forward it should be every 5 years, so my next will be after 25 years.

A payrise after 3 years, so I get a % more per hour than someone with less than 3 years, currently an extra 30p. Slightly more annual leave so instead of accruing 30 mins per day, I accrue 33 mins If you get to 5 years you get a £1500 bonus

John Lewis give a 6 month paid sabbatical after 25 years along with some vouchers to buy a gift and have a meal out.
There are some smaller rewards at lower milestones (extra holiday or keeping discount after retirement) but most are just a badge 😂

We get £500 for 5 years, £1k for 10 years and so on. Also get additional holiday days at a couple of mile stones. Recently found out that after 5 years service and in a management position we get the option of full private healthcare (has tax implications) above the basic healthcare offering all staff receive where they give staff an MOT each year. Also with the healthcare is global travel insurance.

It varies hugely. Plenty of companies give nothing at all, some give a token gesture, and a few give actual cash bonuses. So £1000 for 10 years is nice, but not some universal norm. That said, 20 years being marked with nothing but a short email is pretty miserable.

My company just gives an extra day of holiday leave for the year of big milestones, 10, 15, 20 years. I don't think they recognise it further than that, bonuses at my company also aren't for recognition of effort but for those in profit generating departments anyway.
