Are you being affected by Storm Dave?

I’m up north and there’s been an amber warning in place since 7pm. It’s quiet and I can’t work out if this is calm before the storm ⛈️ or Dave has changed its course.
NoisyGog@reddit
Not really. I’ve worked just short of a 70 hour week, so I’m gladly using the storm as a solid reason to do absolutely fuck all this weekend, just lounge around the house and recharge.
In North wales, and the winds are really bad. We’re quite sheltered in our street, but it’s still really wild - down by the coast it’ll be bonkers.
TroublesomeFox@reddit
In north Wales by the coast, we got battered and Dave murdered my garden table. Only had it two months :(
Mouffcat@reddit
Oh no. Can it be fixed?
mand71@reddit
My brother and family were travelling to Anglesey today and said it was really windy.
Theres3ofMe@reddit
70 hours! Blimey, is that every week too?
NoisyGog@reddit
Oh good god no, thankfully!
I work in TV, on outside broadcasting (the telly trucks). Individual days are often very long, but we’re usually really good at sorting time off in lieu so we end up doing a 40-hour week, or thereabouts. There’s been a lot on this week though, and some of my colleagues have been off work for Easter holidays, which means I’ve had to cover shifts I wouldn’t normally have done.
NoisyGog@reddit
Yikes. Just saw there’s been gusts of over 93mph in Eryri. Mega windy here in Anglesey, too.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
God that’s a long weekend. Hope you get some rest.
NoisyGog@reddit
Cheers! I’ve done nothing today apart from a stroll along the waterfront earlier, but I still feel zombified even after an hour’s afternoon nap.
cheebifred@reddit
I was traumatised by it last night, the wind managed to pop our living room window open and nearly ripped it of the hinge (crappy old safestyle windows that need replacing). The wind was so strong it launched a rather lovely little statue of the windowsil onto the driveway which shattered into many peices. RIP naked lady you were muchly appreciated.
Easy-Client-5080@reddit

Wow! Thanks for keeping us posted
CrumpetsAndTeaYipee@reddit
It’s that windy in the Midlands, someone’s trampoline has blown away and found a new home on the public footpath.
nevynxxx@reddit
In a static caravan in the lakes. It’s very wet and very blowy!
Internal-Art-5672@reddit
Jealous you’re in a caravan, we’re in a roof tent that we’ve had to put down and set up camp for the night in the car 😭
nevynxxx@reddit
Hope it was ok!
Internal-Art-5672@reddit
All fine in the end! Slept pretty well given the circumstances. Woke up to tents having flown away with everything in and a caravan tipped over. Looking like a clear night tonight!
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Oh no! Hope you’re stocked up 🙏

Suspect we’ll be fine. It’s got central heating and everything! Currently watching Baby Driver with the kids.

It was really blustery.
All my attic windows were blown open, and it's taken down my garden fence again.

Skipton here. Nope, I had plans for a hike today but I cancelled them. Wish I’d just gone now.

Not the normal kind, I have to use a dongle and bounce on the trampoline outside. When I get high enough it connects.

Dave's Transit broke down and he's not coming.
ThrowRA_ec002@reddit
I'm between Gateshead and Washington. Went to bed at my usual time of 10pm. Was awake just after 1am because of the wind. Had to go downstairs, can't relax. I'm supposed to be driving to Derby this afternoon. Don't feel much like it now.
The storms we get don't usually affect me this badly, must be the direction the wind is coming from. Also, we usually get power cuts in storms, but it hasn't happened yet. Strange.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
I’m in North East too. Had a powercut for 20 min but came back on. Couldn’t believe it. Same for me, woke up at 1 then everything beeped when the power went off. Been awake since.
Lee-Malone@reddit
I'm Washington/Gateshead too. Haven't had much sleep, but wind dropping a bit now.
MitchBM15@reddit
All I could hear last night was the new neighbourhood food waste bins being blown around and bashing into cars.
_FirstOfHerName_@reddit
In East Midlands and it's knock-your-bin-over windy, has been most of the day.
caliandris@reddit
Yeah. Market Rasen wasn't in the yellow warning if wind area at all but it was windy as fuck last night and anything not nailed down in the garden is part of starlink now.
CarpetGripperRod@reddit
North Worcs ... pretty blustery from about 21:00 until 01:00-ish.

South West Wales coast in a caravan. Bit rocky, struggling to sleep. Had some major hail through a few hours ago. Nothing dangerous, just annoying.
Legit_Vampire@reddit
West midlands here & from 4pm yesterday the wind has been really gusty it settled a few hours ago but it was really harsh. I thought if were having this god help them up north where it's supposed to hit hard
diploid83@reddit
It seems that they have now taken a policy of naming all weather. It used to just be called weather but now they can give it a name to hype it all up a bit
ThrowRA_ec002@reddit
I don't get the rationale behind naming storms. This time next year, how many people are going to remember when Storm Dave was? Why not just call it the Easter 2026 storm?
We all know about the October 1987 storm, and I will particularly remember the January 2005 one, because the roof was ripped off our house. Those storms don't need names to make them memorable.
Screaming_lambs@reddit
Yes. 2am one of my cats woke me up to tell me it's windy. She's not wrong.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Aaaw hope she’s okay
Screaming_lambs@reddit
She's 15 and has a touch of dementia, although even before that she was a bit of a dickhead. She's just complaining about the noise.
S_Id@reddit
Haha. I'm in a tent in Northumberland. It's fucking wild at the moment. Just had to help some folk who's awning snapped and now making a brew as my wife is afraid we'll end up in Oz if we go to sleep
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Oh no! At least you can do a brew in the wild. We had a powercut and for a moment I had to think about a day without coffee ☕️. Power back on, at least for now. Boiling the kettle and putting hot water in a flask just in case 👍
yourmomsajoke@reddit
In Angus, it's been pretty quiet.
I'll see if I get a free trampoline in the morning I suppose.
sammytee997@reddit
Gateshead. Quite high up. Wishing house was a bit more aerodynamic. Temp feels like it's dropped a fair bit.
Praying van and car aren't going to get stuck by loose roof tiles or such.

As per, shes flat asleep, cat is flat asleep. I'm up worried about cars and garden 😆

Out camping/glamping near Forfar, wet and a little windy but nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Inside with a log burner on the go and hearing the rain hit the roof with a beer in my hand, life's not that bad!

Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)

SMYLTY@reddit
Train was cancelled and had to pay for a taxi.
Resident-12-9160@reddit
Hopefully I / my household hasn't been too badly affected. All the bins were blown over tho. Heard banging and clattering, opened door to see and there they were all on their sides and damn recycling all over the driveway. Practically all of its blown away (the items in the recycling bin) I've since placed them all down on their side now and they seem to be staying in place. I absolutely hate and detest high winds and storms because, while for most of us, they pose as abit of a nuisance, for some, they wreck absolute havoc and extreme damage to people's homes and properties. Even causing fatalities. Anytime there is mention of a storm brewing in the news I dread it so much.

Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
I get anxious too. Storm Arwen really messed up our roof 😓
Smeeble09@reddit
We've got a loft conversion and it was done before we moved in, I have very little faith in its structural regidity.
We have replaced the flat roof on it (three times)due to leaks, so hopefully it's more solid now, still stress though.
Also had a fence replaced late last year due to the old one getting blown over, so hopefully the new one is stronger.

The main impct of storm Dave has been that from I think 11am until 7pm today we were being paid to use electricity and from midnight tonight until 7pm tomorrow we're getting paid even more to use electricity. I think it peaks at us gaining 12p per kWh for one 30 minute period.
Octopus Agile tariff is pretty good when it's windy.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Several people have mentioned this. I need to look into this tariff 🐙
DigitalStefan@reddit
I won’t lie, there were some days toward the end of 2025 where it hit the price cap of 99p/kWh for a few hours across a few days.
Overall though, it has averaged out at a saving of around one third versus a fixed tariff.
The reason it works so well for us is we’re both at home all day and we’re both on laptops / PC with multiple screens.
We have billing set up so that we pay for exact usage every month. No fixed DD. We put £130/month aside and this works out pretty well.

I’m on a cruise ship near the east coast and so fair it’s pretty calm. Not looking forward to the early hours though!
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Keep us posted if the storm wakes you!
LaurenNotABot@reddit
Will do, we have had some pretty rough sailing on the way to Norway so I’m hoping it’s not as bad as that 🤢
Hookton@reddit
Got twatted in the face by a car door earlier. Impressive black eye. Otherwise business as usual.

VisibleOtter@reddit
Shit, yeah. I had a massive headwind for my entire 13 mile cycle home from work today. Fuck you, Storm Dave!!
BENDOVERBETTY31@reddit
Well done
Linkyjinx@reddit
Dave has not hit us in Weston-super-Mare yet at 9.20 pm, it has been winder here in general for a while now due to the tree clearing on the hill of course I am told 🤓🤪🫶
Choice-Demand-3884@reddit
Cumbria. It's extremely windy. I don't think I'll ever see my recycling bins again.
sjw_7@reddit
We are missing out on all the fun down in Oxfordshire. Its a bit breezy and the furniture on the patio has moved about a bit.
Being soft southerners we are hunkering down but I think we should be ok.
Azuras-Becky@reddit
Wales here, it sounds like a jet is hovering above the house.
Wackylew@reddit
I'm cycling home from work in about 3 hours but outside doesn't look bad for me
Gbrown546@reddit
North Yorkshire. Bit windy, enough to maybe move an empty recycling box. Local Facebook group is making out like it’s a hurricane though.
Beneficial-Pitch-430@reddit
East Midlands, pretty bloody windy.
yam0msah0e@reddit
Camping near York in a roof top tent. It was fine today but meant to be bad overnight!
Danglyweed@reddit
Aye my shed that needs refelted has been tarped since we moved in 3 weeks ago, a batton came loose so had to climb on the overturned bin onto the next bin to be able to get on the roof to nail it back down. The husband pretended to hold the bin whilst saying "pleass be careful". Got a wet arse as a result too....
-C80-@reddit
There’s a storm? I haven’t even noticed enough to bother getting my washing in. Still, I’ll open the wine anyway as it seems to be what we’re all doing!
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Cheers 🍷
spamjavelin@reddit
Not so far, but once it hits 11pm I'm getting negative prices on my electricity until tomorrow evening, so a positive effect for me!
Dangerous-Regret-358@reddit
I've plugged my car in so hope to get a windy recharge overnight :)
spamjavelin@reddit
If you're on Agile, best prices are coming tomorrow afternoon - I'm seeing -10p for one segment...
Dangerous-Regret-358@reddit
I notice that IOG did schedule a charge slot for tomorrow afternoon, that is until I changed the departure time to 8am!
Soulboo_@reddit
Glasgow here, torrential downpour all day and road flooding in several places.
I moved house in this too 💀🤣
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
You what? That’s insane. Hope you have a beverage of your choice to relax with.
Soulboo_@reddit
Not quite, but have at least been able to lie down and let my poor overworked disabled body take a rest!
Van was pre booked so didn’t exactly have the choice to be able to cancel without losing the fee 😭
Also my friends are amazing people, just sayin’! 💜

I'm in northern Ireland near the east coast, we were belted by strong winds for a few hours but it seems to have calmed down now.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Probably moving over to England as we speak
Superspark76@reddit
Not sure, the initial maps made it look like we would only possibly be caught by it, depends what direction it took I suppose
Maddent123@reddit
Windy as fuck here in Cumbria
nihilistkitty@reddit
Fife here, about 5 miles from the coast. Pouring now and a bit blowy but nothing mental yet. Meant to kick off in a couple hours till about 3am.
LegolasleChat@reddit
Missus had her hair done today, in Gloucestershire, and the wind is so strong it blew all the curls out walking from the bust stop, to the pub, then home. Disaster really.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Oh no 😓
liluniqueme@reddit
South Yorkshire and 18mph. Reading a book. Hubbies on the PS4 and the dogs are snoring. Just a regular night tbh.
Realistic_Ad9820@reddit
Taking the opportunity to give my dog an extra long evening walk. She's quite reactive to other dogs and as expected no ody else is mad enough to walk in open fields in 50mph winds after dark.
RowRow1990@reddit
Icy rain and windy as hell, but so far no worse than standard northern weather
Puzzled-Associate-80@reddit
Hebrides Gusting about 60ish dog sulking in his bed

London. Bit blowier than the weather forecasts say. A couple of things blown over in the artificial windy bits caused by tall buildings. But nothing unusual.
foozyfelt@reddit
I’m in my touring caravan in County Durham and it’s a bit windy and rainy but no awnings flying off (yet).
daisygiraffe13@reddit
Just outside of bristol, its pretty damn windy. Annoyingly, my daughter just let the cat out so I am hoping it doesnt get any worse!
plantbeth@reddit
My glasses blew off my face and into the sea this afternoon and the recycling bin has blown all over the street.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Someone else commented their glasses got blown off their face! 😳 I did not know this was a thing.

Caithness calling. It's raining and a bit windy but that's nothing out of the ordinary for here!
Big_Cheese16@reddit
I live in Cornwall. We had the absolute tank of a storm earlier this year. Storm Gorretti. It starts getting blowy around 12pm then around 4pm-5pm it went dead silent, this was the eye of the storm passing over us. Once it was passed we took an absolute beating. I think the highest wind gust recorded was 120mph. People lost power and water for weeks, trees down and blocking roads absolutely every where. There's actually still roads blocked by trees they haven't gotten around to clearing yet and this was months ago. A friend of mine lost his entire roof off his house, he lives at the top of a hill, his roof was found 2 miles away down the bottom of the hill.
So anyway the moral of the story, if you in a named storm and it suddenly goes dead silent, use that time wisely to go and double check everything is secured before hiding back inside.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Sorry to hear you went through that. We went through Storm Arwen and lost power for 10 days, had to replace roof etc. This time we’ve got full tank of petrol in the car, everything is charged and also have a battery which will power the WiFi in case of power cut. Priorities.
Big_Cheese16@reddit
Sounds like your prepared. We are feeling the arse end of Dave as he's passing through, still getting whipped by 50mph gusts down here.
ExcitementKooky418@reddit
Peterborough area and it's quite blowy

Haven’t really noticed it in London, just a bit windy. I have indeed cracked open a bottle of wine. Any excuse

I may set fire to my neighbours wind chimes though.

Cold, windy, and a grey miserable day up north, so...just about normal for the half the year really.

The West Midlands is windy. My bins are blowing about and I'm hoping no fence panels blow out.

Yes, we’re camping at the moment in Stratford and were hoping to be able to sit outside but we’ve got a bottle of wine and scrabble in the van so life’s not too bad 🍷🥳

Wine and scrabble! Best combo 🍷

Getting some good rain lashings on the window now, more concerned about the wind. Not looking forward to the Easter egg placement tomorrow morning amid the blown over fence panels.

We're heading over the summit on the M62 right now, between Leeds and Manchester. The winds are rough up here, making for some very twitchy steering. Still got the usual idiots bombing past like they're immortal, of course.
(Feel obliged to mention I'm a passenger)

Aaaah take care and keep us posted. Greetings to the driver as well 🫡

Quite windy in Cambridgeshire, it started around 5pm and it got progressively worse, but not horrible.
uggyy@reddit
Near Glasgow. Got windy about 6pm then calmed. Torrential rain in the last hour but pretty calm.
Forecast seems to be saying south Scotland and North England going to get the brunt of it.
gibberishnope@reddit
A bit blowy out, drizzle earlier . Wirral
Nervous_Difficulty_6@reddit
Specifically didn’t plan anything today as there were weather warnings in place from like 1-2pm for winds in the NW. I was outside at half 5 jet washing a patio and it was fine…
But gusty now, but wouldn’t consider it anywhere near a storm.
Now I’ve said it, it’s gonna fuck with all my fence panels now isn’t it.
Pinecone_Porcupine@reddit (OP)
Jet washing all manner of things is on my list of chores for this long weekend 👍
Nervous_Difficulty_6@reddit
I love a good patio jet wash, very therapeutic!

A little windy here in South East London this morning but otherwise pleasant. The Storm Dave I’ll be most affected by is when my uncle hears the results between the Spurs and Chelsea game!

I can hear the wind picking up but not affected yet. Its due to peak around 10pm and I need to pop out around then to pick my daughter up so it could affect me soon.

Windy but not too crazy in Derby at the moment.

Got really confused at 'up north' because AFAIK the highlands and islands don't have an amber warnings. Then I realised it was English up north or what we call down south.

English up north yeah.

In Surrey, tis but a scratch.

North Bucks, it’s been strong winds all day, but we’ve managed to work in the garden. Definitely picked up now, but won’t be anywhere near what it is further north

I'm in Mid Wales. The storm is at it's peak here. The weather app says it's 52 mph gusts but I'm sceptical. It doesn't sound as bad as that.
