What happened to the fa Cup?

Posted by Various_Extreme_8773@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 261 comments

CarpetPedals@reddit

There are a few things in my opinion. The fixture calendar is so packed with games that lower-league clubs that don’t have the squad depth prefer to sacrifice playing first-team players in the FA Cup to maximise their league chances. Secondly, there are too many competitions now. Why is there more than one European competition? If you don’t qualify for the Champion League, you instead play in a ‘not quite as good’ cup where you can compete to be ‘still not the best team in Europe’. Even the Pizza Cup played in League One and below - the clubs don’t want it. They’re even forced to play games against PL Under-21 teams, who often end up beating them - which shows you the absolute state of football right now. VAR then took away what little magic was left in football.

Will you play the new uk lotto that is supposed to improve the ailing game?

If you're going away on a Summer holiday, shut water off?

Posted by whatsreallygoingon88@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 199 comments

CarpetPedals@reddit

I’ve come back from holiday to find a leak had sprung under the bath! So now I always turn off the stop cock. There’e no reason to keep it on, so why not? Get rid of the worry! I think what got us was it was during winter, and the thermostat was just set to 5 degrees, which meant the pipes likely got way colder than they otherwise would, contracting slightly more than they have before and it just broke the seal on that pipe. In future I’ll be keeping the house above 14-15 degrees when we leave it, and stop cock always off. It’ll limit how bad any leak can be.

What's your monthly Gas and Electricity usage/bill?

Posted by Zeeshmania@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 236 comments

We’re in a new-build 4 bed. We’ve used 5,330 kwh of gas and 779 kwh of leccy so far this calendar year. Our electric usage isn’t that useful as we have an electric car with home charging, and solar panels.

I never choose the products with fees, I prefer the slightly higher interest rates that have no fees. They typically work out better in the long run - worth working out.

CarpetPedals@reddit

Yes, you’ll have two mortgages but they’d be treated completely separately despite them both being towards the same property. They’d renew separately, and take payments separately. But in the grand scheme of things if really worth doing to avoid a £1,600 early repayment charge. I have a ported mortgage, so have two parts to my mortgage. It’s absolutely no bother. The way I handle them is I only overpay on one.

Can you guys help me pick out a stage name for my call center job based in a Uk market?

Posted by SpecialistWriting708@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1018 comments

CarpetPedals@reddit

The conclusions that call centres conclude from this research is mental. Let’s make the assumption that Brits are more receptive to other British callers. If you have a foreign accent, that illusion is very quickly broken. So by using a British name as a foreigner I’d argue it creates more distrust than using your own name. I personally can’t stand when someone with an Indian accent cold calls me and tries to tell me his name is Dave…

Getting a word wrong in W3W is faaaaar more obvious as an error than it would be for a typo with GPS coordinates. W3W will put you at a random location in the world, whereas a GPS typo will likely put you in a relatively close wrong place, making it much harder to spot errors, which can be critical, even fatal. Also fuck providing GPS coordinates over the phone.

This kind of question also plays into the hate towards cyclists. Why are you assuming all cyclists are the same, so we should either hate or be okay with all of them? Most car drivers are fine, a few are complete pricks. Same goes for cyclists.
