What's the weirdest punishment you got as a kid?

Testing felt pens as detention at 14.... I found it strangely enjoyable just sitting there scribbling with felt pens going yep or no & throwing the duds into the bin. Don't think the teacher was impressed though, huge box was supposed to take 30-60 minutes & I was done in 15 😂 What they didn't know was this was a regular task at home cos as younger kids we hardly ever put the lids back on fully so had to do a check every 3-6 months or mum wouldn't replace them 🤣🤣

Your arm from elbow to wrist is the same length as your opposite foot. (Left arm to right foot & vice versa using palm upward) Only issue I have is that my feet are a half size different....makes me wonder if my forearms are also half a shoe size different...I just don't have enough flexibility to check...yet! 🤣

Should I avoid polarized lenses after a bad reaction?

Posted by JayRexSy@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 19 comments

3_box@reddit

Well I had assumed it was to do with UV.... but sometimes mine don't go dark outside when it's sunny & have on occasion gone dark when it's cloudy....so I thought there might have been more to it than just UV 🤷🏼 and no, they weren't old glasses and they weren't scratched. To be fair, I wear glasses but haven't really done a deep dive into how they are made and the specifics of the coatings so I wasn't sure UV was the whole answer.

Probably worth double checking with an optician though - they might be able to confirm why they don't seem to work in a car.

My transition lenses don't change in the car. Neither do anyone's that I know that has them - family or friends. Got told it's to do with the car windscreen but no idea if that's true or not!! I have a pair of prescription sunglasses I wear in the car when it's sunny....mine are polarised, my mum's aren't. The only thing I've noticed with the polarised lenses is that I can't read the LCD display in the car unless I get the right angle so I have the sat nav sound on if I'm using it.

You can have your new lenses put into your existing frames if they're in good condition. It might be worth looking into 🤷🏼 Also, check with your employer to see if you qualify for any reimbursement - my employer has a "display screen equipment" policy where if you have to stare at a screen all day and require glasses then we get our eye tests reimbursed and £75 back towards the cost of our glasses.....they don't shout about it (obviously) but it's in the policy so gets shared a lot by staff 🤣

I keep ending up in lots of debt with me energy company. What do I do?

Posted by Impossible-Union-449@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 122 comments

3_box@reddit

Do they have an app? Octopus email me every couple of months telling me they're upping my direct debit & I just go into the app and reset it to what I want to keep my account in credit but not nearly as much as they'd like because 1) I don't need to be over £700 in credit and 2) I want what little interest is paid on that money in my account not theirs. If I use more energy, I can make a single payment directly in the app. Yea it's annoying to have to do this but it's apparently an automatic process that the staff on the phone have no access to. Not sure if I believe them but 🤷🏼

What can I do with an unwanted bottle of Bailey's?

Posted by girlsunderpressure@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 248 comments

3_box@reddit

Not really, it just kinda rounds out the flavour of the Bolognese. We use about half of a standard wine glass if it was filled to the brim and make enough to serve 8. It started because we had several bottles given us one Christmas and no one wanted to drink them or waste the gift by chucking it out. If you use too much then it's not great but a little goes a long way.

What’s people’s opinions on tattoos? Can a neck tattoo affect future jobs?

I have a tattoo down the back of my neck and it gets compliments when noticed. That said, I know a few VERY LOVELY people with tattoos on the front or side of the neck that have had mostly negative reactions and it's always complete strangers 🤬 It seems to be, unfortunately, a bias that the front/side is seen as a more thuggish/dangerous person which is stupid because you don't have to have any body art to be an ass. I really hope this shitty attitude changes soon and that if you do go ahead, you never experience negativity. That said, you do you and tell any arseholes to firmly get stuffed! x

Cottage pie is really easy to freeze/reheat & basically a meal on its own if you add diced veg & you can do a potato/swede top. My cottage pie has evolved into a mix of cottage pie, Bolognese and hidden veg....I love love Bolognese & the hidden veg gets me more veg in my diet but doing it as cottage pie gives me a change from pasta 😂

Is team or promotion more important in a job?

Posted by justagayduck@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 34 comments

Maybe write down a pros and cons list for each job. Make sure to do practical and emotional pros & cons. It's not just about money, although a decent wage is important. Your mental health / happiness is important too so include the emotional side in your list. Writing it down might help you focus on what's important and what you are willing to compromise on.

Did any other women go literally nuts on hormonal contreception?

3_box@reddit

I get that & agree entirely but I can't help thinking if you had a hormone level when you are in your 20's, then any you get done when in perimenopause would have a base level of sorts to compare to. Anything to go off has to be better than nothing...

Did any other women go literally nuts on hormonal contreception?

Posted by Loose_Avocado4670@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 410 comments

3_box@reddit

Absolutely! Also, make it standard to do a hormone test to get a base level on your medical records around 20-21 years old or around the time of your first cervical smear test so that when you hit perimenopause you have something to compare to.

All forms of hormonal contraception make me a total nut case, devastatingly upset or angry at absolutely nothing all the time. Can't have a coil either as it left me doubled over in pain for a year till my mum made them remove it. I'm 45 now and having major perimenopause symptoms. Go keeps telling me I'm too young for it 🤣🤣🤣 finally managed to get them to do a hormone check and my levels are at a normal level for a 30 year old...... Just leaves me wondering how high my hormone level was in my 20's & 30's for it to be "normal" 5 years into perimenopause symptoms 🤦🏼
