What does four bunk beds mean to you?

Posted by Active_SeriZZLEAF@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 318 comments

royals796@reddit

8 mattresses. 1 bunk bed = 2 regular beds. If you needed 1 mattress per bunk bed then I’m afraid you have been scammed: they sold you a regular bed

I’ve seen quite a few in mine, but admittedly only when the supermarket hasn’t had what I’ve needed. Time to switch that round I think!

It’s unfortunate that they don’t have the resources to do their jobs. It’s quite fortunate that they aren’t at your beck and call to prove your dubious claim that you are allowed to film people without their consent

Police don’t have the resources to respond to some actual crimes, mate. They’re not gonna come out because you were determined to prove you were “in the right”

If someone asks to borrow sun cream ?

Posted by Widebody_lover@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 314 comments

royals796@reddit

I think you’re maybe reading a little too literally into it. I think it’s just that “I’d give it to them to prevent skin cancer” reads a little easier than “I’d give them to prevent UV radiation from the sun damaging their skin cells, which if happens repeatedly can lead to rapid cell mutation which will lead to a diagnosis of skin cancer that can lead to death”

But it will offer protection from sun damage that will accumulate and could eventually lead to skin cancer, and you have the means to help prevent some of that accumulation, so why wouldn’t you? OP asked what I’d do, I’d share because I think that’s the right thing to do for the stated reasons as well as preventing short term damage and discomfort from burns. “But it won’t actually give them skin cancer” doesn’t really do much to change my mind.

Depends on why they’re asking but I’m a big believer in a sense of community and sharing. £10 to stop a bunch of lads developing skin cancer seems like a fair trade

Do you feel the constant bad news is affecting you?

royals796@reddit

To be honest, I used to be far less apathetic but the problem with places like Reddit is no matter what you do, you always fall short of someone’s purity test. Now, instead of trying to change the world I have started to aspire to what I call “hobbit-life”. I want to live in a small, rural community with my books and my garden and good wholesome meals. Basically, a simple life. That’s all I want. If the world wants to burn itself out by picking sides and constantly falling out over every issue, then they can carry on but I’m done now, I think.

It wasn’t sarcastic. It was a joke, not a sarcastic one. Just a normal one. But /s has become the signifier for all manner of jokes these days, has it not? If you need the joke explained: I know they’re owned by the same brand, and to my (likely unrefined) palette, they taste very similar and are not very pleasant to drink. My joke was a reference to that, meaning: they’re made by the same brewer so they could “literally” come out of the same kegs. Now, needless to say I know very little about brewing beer and even less about the nuance of lager - can’t drink it myself - so I thought that obvious lack of knowledge would make the joke clear. Apparently it does not.

It’s marketed as social deduction. All the evidence is social. What people say, how their behaviour changes when under scrutiny etc. The closest you get to other evidence is when tasks are done out in the open. It’s kind of the point that there’s no hard evidence.

Personally I’d rather food that’s hasn’t been under a heat lamp for hours regardless of price. Food-wise their prices are pretty much as cheap as you can get without it being criminal, but that’s just inflation for you.

Has anyone quit drinking alcohol, and how did it affect their life and relationships?

Posted by Appropriate-Mark-676@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 89 comments

royals796@reddit

My mate quit a couple of years back and none of us cared. The problem is now at every social gathering, all he does is talk about how he doesn’t drink anymore. If someone else is not drinking, he only talks to them about why not drinking is great. The first time he said he wasn’t drinking, he brought a bottle of Robinson’s squash to a party. It was a bit weird but it was a small gathering and besides one or two jokes about the alternative he chose, no one really mentioned it. It’s been a few years now and he still goes on about it. It’s really quite boring.

In the 21st century, dining etiquette is no longer indicative of class. If you saw someone chewing with their mouth open, I would think that you wouldn’t say “oh, that’s fine, they’re probably just working class.”
