Did anyone just about get used to new absurd UK restaurant prices, to find that the price has once again gone up almost 20% in the last year?

Brit living abroad here. Have pub food & cafe prices also gone nuts? I've not been home for years. Food in the UK always seemed cheap

Yeah, we get all those already in our supermarkets. Last year we got some Terry's Chocolate Orange things that melted into Hot Chocolate, that's the kinda stuff we never get!

People of the UK, can you tell me why you have these white balaclavas on your car seat headrests? What is the purpose? Why are there so many?

We have lanes with cameras, you need to have 2 or more people in the car to use them. These are better than a blow up doll in the passenger seat I presume.

Yeah. I'm looking for a little car for my son. Brand new these are $25k all in. 5 year old ones are just 20% cheaper. https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2020-kia-picanto-gt-line-auto-my20/SSE-AD-14230778

Five to Seven Weeks Till Supply Chain Disruptions in US

Economy wise, China is Australia's largest trading parter, by a mile. They buy our iron ore, wine, seafood, agriculture products and much, much more. Politically, Australia has always leaned to the US. Ironically I would feel no worries heading to China, travelling and exploring but I feel unwelcome now under the trump reign. China hasn't imposed a 10% tariff on us, just the US

Australian here. Yeah our news keeps talking about random tourists getting locked up, deported & giving tips like 'if you go take a burner phone instead'. We came last year to the US, loved it, but this year we're not coming back (unfortunately). Too scary & don't feel welcome (by the policies, not the people).

Sydney here. Were the end of the line for lots of very long haul flights. We often have a dozen here a day, they still amaze me seeing & flying on them regularly.

What was 1998 like in the UK?

I moved from the UK to Australia. Calling home involved going to the shop, buying a pre-paid international calling card then dialing into a phone server that connected your call. The line quality was terrible. Best decision I ever made. Despite the stupid cost of housing it's still way better, the high streets are still booming & we have a pool in the back yard for the kids.

Can't say we did. But we're quite well traveled & New York pizza slices were excellent. We also went to Chicago, Florida & Texas but the pizza slices in New York were a standout. I read here that it's the pure level of competition in New York that makes them good (so many choices that poor quality ones just don't survive).

Is it effective? Last time I was in the UK the cost of train travel was absolutely eye watering compared to where I live (Sydney). Queensland just overshadowed us!

Are there three things you can think of that would improve things for the majority of the UK?

Posted by PM_M3_A11things@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 804 comments

rockresy@reddit

Utilities & public transport should never be privatized. They are all investment heavy, low to no profit & should be run for the public good & subsidized via taxation. Good, cheap public transport clears roads & utilities should focus on being efficient.
