We had been calling Sudacrem magic cream for a while already after having two kids, but my third was a c section and the wound was a beast to heal. Midwives told me not to put anything on it for weeks until eventually I was just pissed off with it and put a strip of Sudacrem on after a shower. Healed by my next appointment đŸ„ł Fun fact: it’s Irish in origin and gets its name from the way “soothing cream” sounds in an Irish accent.

A friend once told me she was actively self harming. I called ambulance and police to her property, absolutely frantic over the things she was saying about cutting too deep and things getting fuzzy. She was fine. Told everyone I had tried to get her kids taken away by calling emergency services over nothing. Watched her delete messages from my screen as the operator told me they were just arriving at the property. No regrets. Never spoke to her again, glad to be rid of her bullshit.

Because “excuse me, in 2001 a guy asked a girl whose name I can’t remember if she had ever sucked a dick before” isn’t going to go very far? We were 16. Frankly you can suck a fart out of my ass if you think we were in any way responsible for what happened to her. Punch yourself for me. “tHaT wAs tHe dRuMmEr..” yeah what about the other guy? It was two of them. Neither of them were Watkins. I’m so very sorry my comment has triggered you but I’m not making up a damn thing and it most certainly is not about an innocent man.

They’ve just not been arrested. I commented higher up this thread but two of them (early 20s at the time) hit on someone I knew who was 16 but looked younger. Don’t trust any of them.

Nah fuck all of them. Two of lostprophets - not Watkins - hit on a friend of mine’s girlfriend in HMV in Cardiff once. She was 16 but looked a lot younger and they must have been early 20s at the time.

Depending on what your phd is in, nuclear industry loves a chemical or process engineer. You would probably match your US salary in that industry, but sites are quite remote so doesn’t really hit the urban feel you want. Alternatively nuclear engineers at Aldermaston in Reading (or Burghfield nearby) earn plenty too and it’s commutable from London easily.

Has anyone had success having cysts removed on the NHS?

Posted by epifauna__@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 47 comments

I have a neighbour who seems to get a few removed a year surgically just by moaning about it to the doctors relentlessly and constantly nagging them for painkillers. I get them twice the size just as often but I am terribly polite about it and would hate to trouble anyone. I am frankly ridiculous. Guess which one of us is suffering. Go bother your GP more - it really does sound frustrating to not be able to brush your hair properly. Getting effective care from the NHS is such a postcode lottery right now. May the odds be ever in your favour, cysts are miserable.

My oldest has been allowed to venture out since he’s turned 10 last summer and had a phone that we could track. If there’s a group of them going to the park behind our house, my 8yo can also go. My 5yo would obviously need direct supervision, I’ve let her go with our 13-14yo neighbours before but I’ll still walk down to the corner and eyeball her every 10 mins or so 😅

Where would you personally draw the line at reporting a close family member to the police for a crime they've commited?

Posted by PaddedValls@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 432 comments

kateykatey@reddit

Friend of a friends kid was stabbed a year or two ago. It was a savage attack with a “zombie knife” that came millimetres away from killing him. (It took emergency surgery, but he survived) All no comment interviews and no further action. He was almost certainly set up by a “friend” and I’m sure it was dealt with by more violent crimes committed by his shitty scumbag mates. They all live at home with parents. It would have taken one person to report what they knew.

Posted by BoardgamesAreCool@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 19 comments

kateykatey@reddit

You need a general location for the victim. If you don’t have one and can’t get one, any police force in the uk will take the info and will work from there to identify and safeguard the victim. If you do have a location, google which police force covers that area and contact them directly. Post here if you need help doing that. You’re doing the right thing but you MUST pursue this.

How have I been waiting for an ambulance for 8 hours?

kateykatey@reddit

Well, when I was collapsed on the floor of my bathroom in agony, I was just a terrified woman on the worst day of her life. But I still remember being respectful and polite while they made fun of me. I also remember finally snapping, they’d been there about an hour by that point making excuses for not giving me care, and were complaining about how I’d scream during contractions so they couldn’t concentrate on their paperwork to not take me to hospital. I said something similar to, “will you both just fuck off to your van and LEAVE ME ALONE” through tears. I remember the useless male one saying “well you called us!” and I yelled “yeah, for HELP” as I dissolved into sobs and my mother ushered them outside. I’ve never once regretted not being nice to them đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž

Every other paramedic I’ve ever met has been really wonderful. We had a few for my preemie baby in his first winter, he was vaccinated for RSV but got bronchiolitis anyway. I was definitely a bit traumatised at first, but they were only ever completely wonderful. It’s just shit luck that I got a dickhead when it was for me 😂

kateykatey@reddit

In the report they wrote after my complaint, they found that the paramedics “underestimated my pain levels” (aka didn’t believe me - I was screaming and pregnant, they should have!) One of them was fresh out of school and it was apparently his first maternity call out. I don’t even remember him, he stayed outside the room unless I needed to be made fun of. The other one had to write two reports, one on patient care and one showing she understood braxton hicks. It said they were hesitant to transfer me to hospital because they weren’t from the area and were unsure where to take me. (They’d been sent to me after transferring someone to our local hospital). I really love our NHS and am so grateful. They saved me when I arrived at hospital, and spent three months saving my son. I complained because I wanted them to learn from my experience, so I hope they did. I can’t watch shows like Ambulance anymore because seeing them being nice to people makes me cry. Fun!

I called an ambulance once because I had collapsed. I was in pre-term labour and had a massive infection. When they arrived I was still on the floor in the bathroom upstairs, contractions were 7 minutes apart. The paramedics; - made fun of me for being naked from the waist down on the instructions of the 999 operator “put some clothes on love, no one needs to see that” - kept telling me the contractions were braxton hicks even while I insisted braxton hicks are not regular or painful - would not provide pain relief, offering me my own paracetamol, saying the gas and air was “all the way down in the van” - would not help me stand up, just stood over me an berated me for not trying hard enough while I made a superhuman effort to stand using the toilet - would not help me down the stairs. I had two contractions on the stairs. They were seven minutes apart still. - would not transfer me to hospital “your mum is here, why can’t she take you?” - would not stay in the house to do the paperwork to not transfer me to hospital because my screams of agony were distracting. I don’t remember the wording of this, I was furious by this point and wanted them to leave 😂 Eventually my mum did take me. My son was born 8 hours after I arrived, 12 hours after I called an ambulance, and 14 weeks early. He’s 10 now but their negligence almost killed us both.

Parents - Is there a way to successfully stop your boys from trying to hurt each-other everyday?

Posted by TangerineFew6830@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 26 comments

kateykatey@reddit

I told my boys they were allowed to hit each other once per day, so they had to wait and pick the best time. And once they’d got their punch in, they just have to wait for their brothers’ to land. This helped for about 2 days. We play the yellow car game, when you see a yellow car you whack someone. We had to change it to when you see a yellow car you can give someone the middle finger. They’d be getting home from school and saying “I saw four yellow cars today, that’s four hits”. Apparently they won’t do this forever. Mine are 8 and 10. Their 5yo sister can kick both of their asses so far.

What UK museums do you think are underrated or overrated?

Posted by OpenCantaloupe4790@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1004 comments

kateykatey@reddit

The Aerospace Museum in Bristol is brilliant. Tons of big exhibits like old trams and vehicles, planes including a few cockpits you can have a look in, huge helicopters and a fighter jet with exhibits that show you how they work, some missiles and weapons and then a space section with landers and satellites. And then you get to go on Concorde! They dip the nose of Concorde sometimes and if you get lucky you’ll catch it. They also use the Concorde hangar as an event space, so sometimes it’s all done up with fairy lights and it’s bloody magical. And carols under it at Christmas! And when flag shaggers decorated their car park with upside down half mast bullshit, they ripped em down the next day and released a statement saying they were an inclusive space. Massive respect for their quick action on that.

Josie Gibson joined my school for a bit. She was nice, but clearly had a lot going on at home. I remember her trauma dumping on me one lunchtime and us having a lot in common with regards to what we were going through, and then the school year ended and I forgot all about her til she showed up on Big Brother. Fair play to her for spinning it into a career, we have mutual friends nowadays and they don’t have a bad word to say.

Why is Christmas Day so stressful?

Posted by Significant-Bug1654@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 223 comments

kateykatey@reddit

It’s very kind of you to host Christmas for all the oldies so that they get to enjoy the kids at Christmas. These comments are so harsh! You weren’t asking for advice, it was just a general question about the stress of the day. But everyone is piling some on anyway, so I’ll just give some tips from my own fairly relaxed but neurodiverse Christmas. When we’re doing gifts, daddy sits there with a black bag and grabs the paper as we go. Cuts down massively on mess. The kids open things and add it to their little pile (and it is little - spent maybe ÂŁ50 on each kid) in a separate area of the room. Helps give everyone a bit of space. I do all the cooking on the day, starting from about 11am and serving around 3pm. Prepping food would probably stress me out (neurodiversity 🙄😂) and I love cooking the dinner, so it’s my favourite part of the day. I mostly get left alone for this, daddy spends this time playing with the kids and tidying the mess. For the dinner, everyone has a favourite part, so I go hard on their faves. My middle child loves pigs in blankets, we had a huge pile. My oldest has ARFID, the only part of a Christmas meal he would eat was the roasties, no problem just have a big plate of those. I serve it buffet style in the middle of the table, everyone is responsible for loading their own plate from what’s available, and I make sure there’s something everyone is excited about. They still whinge about stuff but I don’t care, I’ve got a fork in my hand by then. Your kids are going to have the best time at Disney! What an incredibly generous gift! It’s hard for them to visualise just how amazing that is. Maybe pop on some YouTube videos about the park they’ll be visiting and watch their eyes light up đŸ„°

Going to the breast clinic tomorrow to get a lump checked out. What should I expect?

Posted by iscariots@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 99 comments

kateykatey@reddit

It’s scary isn’t it, but you’re doing the right thing by getting it checked. They’ll make you whip em out while everyone leaves the room, then they’ll lay you flat and examine you both sides, lifting your arm over your head and poking around your armpit too. They will likely give it an ultrasound, and they can tell a LOT from that, so that might be the end of the appointment. But if they’re not completely sure it’s a nothing burger, they may biopsy it. This isn’t super pleasant but they do put local anaesthetic in (worst bit) and it’s over fairly quickly. Results take a few weeks sometimes, they’ll likely call you back to deliver the news either way - I was sure it was bad news because they wouldn’t tell me anything over the phone but nope! All fine! Best of luck!
