getting habituated to blast sound and recoil?

I just can't relate. Maybe I've made too many trips to the range developing 44mag hunting handloads. I LOVE the recoil, the muzzle blast, the burnt powder in my face. A .22 is about as challenging as a Pez dispenser.

I think all 'bullpup' configurations look like ass. But I realize my attraction to guns is more for the mechanics and beauty of them. Not so much the practicality. JMO.

Is there any reason I can’t use this on a 9mm pistol or .380 pistol ?

Once thing to watch for would be the length of the metal tip that you feed thru the bore. Some rifle snakes might have one too long to feed thru a handgun ejection port.

I also have a mod. 11, but a 20ga. I inherited it when my dad died. In a lifetime of owning & trading guns, this shotgun and his '32 Walther PP were the only 2 he would never part with. I treasure it.

So I go looking for a local Facebook group that allows gun sales listings and I keep running into a warning "DUE TO NEW FACEBOOK POLICIES NO GUN (ETC) SALES ARE PERMITTED". Looks like FB is off the table as a resource for private firearm sales.

Is this a good idea...

I've had a Burris on my 44mag revolver for 20 years and have shot a LOT of hot reloads thru it at the range. Never a single problem.

I'm envious of these videos showing rapid fire and pointing a loaded weapon in undesirable directions. No indoor range, and most outdoor ranges I've ever been to will allow this. Too many rules & restrictions. Boring.

I didn't realize states varied so much in their requirements. I have a decades-old disorderly as well but in Michigan the only misdemeanor that'll get you denied is for domestic violence. I guess I understand that--other than that pesky "infringing" part, of course. A disorderly where you weren't even a participant is just next-level nonsense.

All those old movies & TV shows with cops bracing their revolver on the left forearm... You'd think that practice would stop after one shot. I handload some hot rounds and the flash from the cylinder gap isn't something I want on top of my arm.

I will stand by that .410 000 buck is highly underrated for HD. Been modifying my old Mossberg for HD. Post barrel cut I get 3” pattern at 7 yds and 10” patterns at 20 yds. 5 .38 specials per trigger pull at close range. (My nightstand gun is a .40 S&W).

What kind of gun fits in this case?

Posted by Dave_zenmaster@reddit | Firearms | View on Reddit | 33 comments

guy48065@reddit

I assume similar cases were made for rifles, scoped rifles, and shotguns. I inherited my dad's Remington model 11 shotgun (1905-1947) that was always kept in a very similar case. His was short with 2 tubular sections, with a single leather handle in the middle. Intended to transport the shotgun broken down to fit in a trunk or whatever.

Pour one out for the Walther PP that I won’t inherit.

My dad never kept guns for long. Always trading them. There are only 2 firearms I can recall he hung onto. A Remington 11 20ga full choke goose gun, and a PP. I got the Remington, my brother got the Walther. He's promised I'll get the Walther when he passes on. I don't wish ill on my brother but ...

I'm confused by all this. Two weeks ago I bought a comp'd Hellcat under this promotion. The gun brought to the counter from the stockroom already had all the extra goodies in the oversize box so it (the comp'd version) clearly was included in the promotion. On top of the promotion my LGS also had 10% off that weekend. My total receipt was $620.

How bad is .44 mag really?

Posted by burntbridges20@reddit | Firearms | View on Reddit | 119 comments

guy48065@reddit

Don't forget you have options even after the sale. I've had a Dan Wesson 44mag for 40 years. 6-inch barrel, full length underlug. It's heavy...and it's ported...and has Hogue grips. Real easy to shoot, painless. That "hand cannon" was my daughter's favorite gun to shoot when she was a teenager. And she was real accurate with it. With hot hand-loads the muzzle blast can create a little flinch where the lack of recoil didn't. Either way it's a blast to shoot.

Cars Protection Plus Plan?

Posted by baedbish@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 19 comments

guy48065@reddit

I learned some hard lessons about car warranties in general, and Cars Protection Plus specifically. Firstly READ the contract. Every word. Don't assume anything that isn't spelled out on paper. Because if an item isn't specifically listed--it's not covered. Example: my plan covered "AC repairs". Specifically listed are the compressor, condenser and evaporator. I had a refrigerant line break. Not listed, not covered. Not one cent. My plan was for "48 months, unlimited miles". Deep in the fine print I found a claims limit equal to the Blue Book value of the vehicle at the time of claim. I paid $1,800 for this warranty. The price i paid in 2022, while still impacted by Covid-Crazy values, was $8000. But the Blue Book value of the truck halfway into my warranty is now only $3600. *As time goes on this warranty value decreases.* My engine quit about 1 year into the plan. CPP required the shop to pull the engine & do a complete tear-down for a claim inspector to come verify the diagnosis. This would tie up a repair bay for several weeks so my trusted shop wouldn't start. Truck sat in their parking lot for 3 months while they made excuses. I towed it to another shop. CPP would only authorize: Repair of engine (Broke timing chain destroyed the heads & possibly pistons). Or Replace with a junkyard engine. I choose repair. Mostly covered by the warranty--except they don't cover the diagnosis. Which was exorbitantly expensive thanks to CPP policy requiring VISUAL PROOF. Engine didn't even survive a 20 mile test drive. Ok now I have no choice but the junkyard motor. The warranty covered most of the cost of replacing the motor. THIS motor also didn't survive the test drive. A camshaft gear started to walk off the end of the cam and destroyed the camshaft sensor. A simple repair... Except this motor is now warranted by the junkyard - - and they don't authorize repair. All they do is supply engines so they sent a replacement engine and paid my shop to swap them. Stupid... But okay. Second junkyard motor survives the test drive. About 3,000 miles later I take a 2000 mi round trip on vacation. The engine dies partway home. Now I'm stuck in Podunk, WV and I learn that I'm over the junkyard warranty AND I've hit the claims limit on my CPP warranty. Because of CPP policies all the value of the warranty is squandered on junk motors. I end up returning to West Virginia with a U-Haul and tow my dead truck home and back to the shop that's been doing all the work for me. This time the repair is 100% out of my pocket and I choose a factory-remanufactured engine. I've now put 20,000 mi on that motor and it's still holding up. If CPP would authorize a new or remanufactured motor instead of only authorizing repairs or rolling the dice on junkyard junk I might still have a warranty that's worth something for the next two years on my truck. These warranties are very carefully worded so that the policy holder is discouraged from making claims. And when claims are made, only the cheapest options are authorized. Just like in Vegas the house always wins.

If you were to reincarnate as a gun. What would be the worse gun to reincarnate as.

I'll be contrary and suggest the Luger as the most iconic, unique and recognizable sa pistol. While I admit there are differences, all 6 of the guns shown look the same to the casual observer.
