Kids paying rent?

Posted by bozakman@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 224 comments

cyphertext71@reddit

Son finished college, is working and no rent. He has a goal of down payment on a home. He saves and spends very little to reach this goal. If I were to charge him rent, I would put it in a savings account and give to him when he was ready to buy a home, but I don’t really need to do that since he does it already.

Shotguns are kept cruiser ready, hammer down, action unlocked, empty chamber, full magazine and safety off. We have Remington 870s and Mossberg 500s. Kept in this manner, it doesn’t matter which shotgun is grabbed, the manual of arms is the same, work the action and it is ready. Also, these are not drop safe so don’t want the dog to knock the one that is in the corner over. Also have a 1301, it is also kept with an empty chamber but a shell on the lifter so just need to pull the bolt back. It had to go back for warranty repair though and I haven’t put enough shells through it since getting it back to make it the bedroom gun yet.

I remember sleeping on ours after we got it and filled it up, before it had time to warm up… got out of bed the next day just sore all over, kinda like when I get out of bed today!

Teenagers home alone 2 weeks while parents went on a cruise

If they die, the outcome is the same. That is what that statement was addressing. OP stated "Likewise, if they had died in a plane crash to or from Alaska, we would not have known how to pay any bills, mortgage, utilities, etc. and would have had no one to help. No money. Not even sure if they had any life insurance." Regardless f they died in a plane crash while on the trip or died going to the grocery store, the outcome would be the same... dead parents and kids needing to figure it out.

I disagree... they were great parents. They raised you where you could take care of yourself at that age. You were 17, and year from being a "legal adult". A two week trial run before you left doesn't seem so bad. Maybe they should have left a credit card for an emergency, but if something would have happened with the house and needed a repair, you would have figured it out. If the house was flooded, you probably knew how to look in the yellow pages and find the number for a plumber. If there was a fire, you knew to call 911. How would it have been any different if they would have both went to the grocery store and died in a car wreck on the way home? All your questions about paying mortgage, utilities, life insurance would all be the same and that was a normal, everyday risk.

Help identify this man that assaulted a 4 year old at Preston Highlands Village!

People use Gemini or other AI tools to create entire videos. I asked Gemini to look at this photo and it said it is a photo of the actor Michael Keaton.

Per Gemini, this is a photo of Michael Keaton. "The subject of the portrait is actor Michael Keaton. Given his recent involvement in projects like the "AI on Screen" initiative and the short film *Sweetwater*, which explores themes of AI and digital reconstruction, it is likely this specific image was produced as part of those efforts or related promotional material. There are also subtle visual cues characteristic of AI generation, such as extremely uniform skin textures and slight inconsistencies where the glasses meet the sides of the face."

There is no way of knowing... you could sit in the jury pool room all day while they try to get a plea deal. Or, you could get selected for a trial. You need to plan to be there all day... if you get out earlier, it is a bonus.

Another vote for finding Rockwall county. Smallest county on the map. Go west of it and you are in Dallas county, north is Collin county. You can fill in Tarrant and Denton counties from there.

Mine is about the same, Wylie to Irving. Can be 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes depending on what time I leave, but going home is always over an hour. Hate it.

Before I knew what a WalMart was, we had these. I was pretty young, but remember always going there for a toy if I had a decent report card.

Texas / OU weekend might have had something to do with the police presence. We went during the week and saw very few officers. All of the observation stands throughout the grounds were manned by senior citizens passing out maps and giving directions to attractions.

You will go through a metal detector. If it doesn't beep, you are told to just keep walking. So I walked through and no beep. Had my Kershaw knife clipped to my pocket and would have assumed it would have triggered it, after all it is all metal. Also had my keys in my pocket and metal on my belt buckle. My wife went through the one next to me and it beeped. She went through several times before they determined it was the tin can that mints come in that was setting it off.

Are you new here? When many folks around here say Dallas, we could be talking about anywhere in the DFW Metroplex. For example, that football team that plays in Irving isn't called the Irving Cowboys, they are the Dallas Cowboys. I don't live in Dallas proper, but if anyone ever asks that isn't from around here, I tell them I am from Dallas. Even in the sub rules, it states that this sub is for the DFW Metroplex. So, here's the deal. You asked about where to get something specific. You were given an answer to a source that is in the DFW area. You can either choose to give them a call, see if they have what you need, and if so, make the drive there to get the item, or you can continue to whine and cry on Reddit.

It’s part of the DFW metroplex… close enough. It would only take me an hour to get there from Wylie, so there is no way it would take that long unless you are riding a bike or taking a bus.

St. Patrick's Day - should we cancel the parade(s)?

Posted by Pabi_tx@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 21 comments

cyphertext71@reddit

You are correct, it is constitutionally protected speech... but is it not ironic that a person would want to reap the benefits and enjoy the rights provided in the US, yet wrap themselves in the flag of another country that they don't want to go back to? What is the purpose of a protest? To bring attention to an issue and win support? Do you think that you are winning over support of Americans by burning our flag while waving a flag of another nation?

What books do you feel were essential to your GenX upbringing?

St. Patrick's Day - should we cancel the parade(s)?

I didn't say that Americans couldn't protest. I don't think Americans should be flying the flags of other countries, especially in protest. At certain events, it is acceptable and even expected, but I don't agree with it everyday. Yes, it is your right to do so, but it is my right to disagree with the message you are sending.
