Wow. It must be a normal thing for staff to steal in warehouses then to resort to such measures. Why warehouse work would attract thieves I don't know. Did you often find staff had stolen stuff and if so, what sort of thing are we talking?

That is so weird. I can only assume staff must have regularly stolen plants for them to perform searches. I'm not usually shocked by stuff but I'm amazed staff searches go on. It's a terrible image - basically assuming they're guilty. I'm surprised it's not against the law.

It's not normal to pee in the host's garden or against the house. That's really disrespectful. There will be one or two toilets inside the house. Obviously given the state of some of the guests you might actually prefer that they went outside as they'd make a right mess of your bathroom/s. As for throwing drinks around, I'm not sure that's normal just for pres. That sounds like a full blown party in itself never mind just a few drinks before going out. I think they've taken the mick here and I wouldn't be inviting them back but it's up to you of course.

How common is it in the UK to refer to a stranger as ‘love’ like ‘speak up, I can’t hear you love?’ or ‘what can I get you, love?’ Is it regional or more of an older generation thing?

Obviously if it's a regular interaction you're having with someone and it really grates, maybe say something, but generally we should just suck it up more. It's only words and they're not badly intentioned. In fact they're usually meant in a friendly way.

If the above poster's calculations are correct, the £100k wage earner takes home £65k A huge number of people are on around £25k and they take home £21.5k... Which is almost exactly a third of the £100k person.

Why is it socially unacceptable for me to not like dogs?

Posted by Facelikeabum@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1930 comments

WanderingAlbertRoss@reddit

Exactly. Can we keep dogs out of pubs please? If you have to have them, have a special area of the pub they can go in and never let them on a seat that humans have to sit on - it's disgusting

An aptronym is the word given to someone whose name is synonymous with their profession e.g. Usain Bolt - sprinter, Alan Ball - footballer etc. and they always delight. What’s yours?

How recognizable would Jonny Wilkinson be to the average England resident?

Posted by burningairlinesGYSMM@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 65 comments

WanderingAlbertRoss@reddit

Kane will be far more recognizable. Football is a much more popular sport and he's still playing and he's been a top player for a long time. I would think probably 80-90% under the age of 30 won't recognize Wilkinson. Maybe 30-40% of males over 50 and of sound mind might recognize him.

Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day?

Posted by CBWeather@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 83 comments

WanderingAlbertRoss@reddit

I've obviously heard of Mothering Sunday but it's the sort of thing that might be written in a diary or on a calendar rather than said out loud by anyone. I remember making a card for Mum at primary school many decades ago and it said "Happy Mother's Day". For me, Mothering Sunday sounds very outdated and if it is still used presumably only by posh or old people.
