How do people survive on minimum wage in the UK? I don't know how I am going to do it.

Other countries. The UK itself only a few years ago. Average UK fill time pay today. It’s up 300% in 20 years, well beyond inflation or GDP growth.

Just to be clear, you’re both tax frauds and I hope she gets audited, and you both incur huge fines for your criminal actions. You are, with zero due respect, riffraffery and a crook.

I’d assume there is a ‘you pay cash, I don’t record it’ deal here Quite common with cleaners. They get to avoid all the labour and profit taxes, and the buyer gets cheaper rates.

I mean this with all due respect to primary school teachers… it’s not High Law… It gives him meaning, and his investments from the Law days supplement the income cut.

I know one guy who quit High Law, I’m talk g 16 hours a day, £200k a year income, to go be a Primary School Teacher I’d never seen someone go from so clearly depressed to so full of life in such a short space of time… The time in high paying jobs are a means to an end, and he was sufficiently financed in terms of investments from it.

My wife thinks the public are cunts, and she will be striking again soon If RPI is such a bad metric, the Gov is free to go and backstage the interest on her student loan to CPI.

That’s another thing people ignore. Legal minimum is legal minimum but will vary workplace to workplace in the US. It’s a common workplace perk.

High skilled jobs in the US have pretty cheap insurance (as health correlates with income) Lack of holiday isn’t great, but I’d happily trade in some Annual Leave for US level income.

I wish it was Koolaid lol. I wish we could go toe to toe with them on pay. We can’t. It’s just pure Cope to ignore how far behind the US we have fallen with our near 2 decades of lost time and 0% growth.

It is more expensive. It’s not 2.5x more expensive though. Come on. There’s a reason the UK has a crisis of bitter HENRY workers. And at the end of the day, if you’re an American, even if it was crazy expensive there, you can just take your USD, and come to another country and live like a king with the FX Potency. It would be easier for America to fix its cost of living, than for the UK to have salaries as high as the Americans.

Yes. A far better place to be average or above average. If you have any skills, the US is miles better. I make approx 40% what my US equivalent makes as a chartered accountant. That’s just the reality. The UK is a better place to be poor. It’s a much worse place to be average or above.

The main issue is the housing shortage necessitates housing chains as there’s so few empty homes in the UK that are end points. The solution to that is to blast past our housing targets.

Why is there unemployment in the NHS considering what we hear?

Posted by Desperate-Drawer-572@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 101 comments

Because the Gov is committed to replacing Doctors and Nurses, who have globally in demand qualifications and can leverage that for more pay, with the “alphabeti-spaghetti” replacements like PA’s.

That’s not the point I’m getting at I’m saying that, culturally, the main measure of housing should be sqft, not bedrooms. That you should be able to easily filter units by sqft. That Americans are better in that they’re not so easily swayed in their valuations of homes by knocking up a wall and splitting 1 bedroom into two tiny ones as value.

They don’t exist, in large part because buyers don’t value sqft compared to “bedrooms” and so the market responds as such by not providing them.

You can dig to find them, but they’re not disclosed up front If you go on Rightmove, you can’t do a search for, say, houses in Leeds with 3,000-4,000 sqft for example. You have to find an X bedroom house, and dig.

Sure, but the room size is to me a secondary importance. I can make more rooms for cheap. I can’t expand the house for cheap.

House size measured in sqft instead go “bedrooms” It leads to this weird situation where people care more about having “rooms” than actual space.
