Can someone help me understand the obsession with football?

Is Gary Lineker’s football podcast the equivalent of Mass for some people? (I also hate how it’s named, there was the rest is history, then the rest is politics and then the rest is football. It doesn’t quite sit on the same level as the other two.)

Can someone help me understand the obsession with football?

Me and my mum went out to get some stuff yesterday. I think we asked my dad to do something and he said the football was on (not even sure it was a team he supported). She dropped the banger of a line “if my whole life revolved around football nothing would get done”.

Can someone help me understand the obsession with football?

When I heard Sweden sent back their winner I wondered why we didn’t do the same. Honestly this man should be our ambassador to Europe. They seem to love him.

As a Brit, do you think you swear too often?

Posted by Jezzaq94@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 407 comments

SmashedWorm64@reddit

I always say different people can get away with different levels of swearing. I never feel like I force out a swear, it just rolls off the tongue. I’m conscious of how much I have sworn but when asked people don’t even realise. I considered myself a trooper but when asked most my colleagues didn’t even clock it. Other people sound like they are forcing it and it just sounds so silly.

Can you express your opinion freely in the UK?

SmashedWorm64@reddit

As long as you are not posting anything utterly deranged or violent, most people should feel quite at ease to say whatever I want. I don’t post politics on my personal accounts unless it is something that really impacts me because I know people with many opinions follow me and I know when I see that stuff it annoys me a little bit.

Going to England in 2027. When is the best time to go?

SmashedWorm64@reddit

I would go in a slightly colder month tbh. April is quite good although the weather can be intermittent - the authentic experience if you ask me. Sometimes the summer months can be absolutely horrid. May-July can sometimes feel absolutely horrible as most buildings are not air conditioned and built for the cold.

Would you want to get rid of religious fundamentalism by having the government promote atheism in school and scientific truths?

Teaching science as “fact” is not correct. It should be taught as truth. Imagine if people just took for granted what made up an atom. No one would bother to question it.

Science should not be taught as fact. It should be taught as a truth. The scientific method should be shown to kids so they understand why we think something works a certain way. If you look at our understanding of the atom compared to a hundred years ago, it is completely different from what we have now. Who is to say we might still have it wrong? Even if a child never wants anything to do with science - it still teaches critical thinking. Likewise, I also think RS is a very important subject. Children should know why the world is the way it is. Religion is so important because it has shaped the world in such a huge way. I wish I had paid more attention in RS class growing up, as I always dismissed it as a waste of time. It also helps children better understand and have more tolerance of their friends, neighbours and cultures.

Basically people who act a nuisance in a supposedly “legal” way, such as paying for petrol with cash that is unrecognisable to most people but somehow legal tender. One I saw recently was some guy pointing a camera straight in to an army base, clearly to provoke a reaction. Despite the signs saying “no photography” they still insisted it was legal and you could tell the poor Sargent wanted to lay him out.

Showing my youth here, but I genuinely think early 2000s kids had a generational run. When we were young we had like Ben 10 and Johnny Test, but soon we got Regular Show and Adventure time. Absolute peak.

The absolute worst you could think of was a head slammed on a radiator? Did you go private? Some guy at mine got his head fully kicked in to the point he was unrecognisable. A more light hearted one was someone was put in a wheelie bin before we started and it was wedged between two walls behind the back of the school. He missed the whole school day and his parents were called and it caused a whole manhunt. At the end of the day a few of us went back behind as it was a shortcut home. As we walked past we just heard him shouting. We released him from the bin and he just rolled out absolutely drenched in sweat (bear in mind this was a black bin in the middle of the summer). To this day I have never seen someone so ill looking. I don’t ever wish to go through what he went through.

What shaving items are best for teenage sons first shave?

It’s best to start him off properly. Get him a cheap safety razor (you can find them for like £10-£15), some soap and some double edged razor blades (these are dirt cheap compared to cartridges). Also get a cheap brush and bowl/cup depending on the soap. The reason I advise against cartridge razor blades is because they are terrible for your skin, especially at an age where breakouts are common and they are very expensive over time (One blade refill is like £2.50 as opposed to £0.08). On top of that when he gets older he will see better results with a double edged razor, as they give a much closer shave. Only rules to follow are don’t go sideways (can’t stress this enough) and learn his face shape. There is a helpful guide online if you search which directions to shave for the part of your face. As he is young and the hair is fine one passover with the grain should be enough. Also hygiene is essential. A good quality soap will do wonders for the skin. Hot water to open the pores, cold to close them. Pat the face down with a clean towel if possible. Keep a bottle of TCP on hand in case of any cuts.

People are allowed to live in their own homes. If your neighbour if forcing residents to evacuate it’s perfectly reasonable to ask him to stop. Sounds like an asshole tbh.

A lot. All the news is pretty grim atm so you just need to look on the bright side. Ultimately, the standard of living pales in comparison to 99% of human history. I mean running water didn’t really exist nationwide when my grandmother was growing up. Transportation is easier than ever. Medicine is getting better every day. There have been no major wars for the UK since we left Afghanistan.
