The teacher probably meant your body as in your corpse. It was a common claim back in the early 1990s that the amount of preservatives we eat was causing our dead bodies to similarly be well-preserved.  It is, however, an urban legend: https://www.snopes.com/articles/465223/food-human-corpse/

Does anyone else not like tv and movies these days?

It's like music. If you had a curious open mind when you were younger by our age you would have experienced a myriad of musical styles and genres. So now when you listen to something new, you can't help compare it to something you heard years ago. And because that old something is something you're used to and possibly is an achor point to a comforting memory or memorable event you cannot help but consider the old song better than the new one. Same with TV & movies. It all feels derivative because there are, arguably, just seven basic plots and just 36 dramatic situations. By our age we have seen them all in countless variations. So now a new movie or TV show can't help but feel familiar. Again we compare & contrast it to something from the past and find the new variation lacking.  For a young person without our experience and knowledge the story seems fresh & new.  Not just that, the story is aimed at the younger person who has a different mindset to us. A show appealing to them will likely not appeal to us.

I now find if I have more than one glass of wine or pint of beer, I jump immediately to hungover. Yesterday I went to a pub for a meal and a pint. When I got home I decided to treat myself to a can of beer. An hour later I honestly felt like I had a hangover. I had to take a couple of panadol and go to bed.

25 year old me could benchpress 180kg and was a year away from competing at the Naitonal rowing champs. 25 year old me could easily kick 50 year old he's butt without breaking a sweat.

I started showing my daughter classic GenX era movies.

The Ministry in 1981 were vastly different to the Ministry in 1987. Hard drugs changes a person. They did show the music video for Just one Fix on TV in 1992 but definitely did not show Throbbing Gristle in 1978. By 1992 the sort of music Ministry was putting out was considered mainstreamish. Certainly didn't cause the sort of outrage and shock the Sex Pistols or Dead Kennedys did a decade or so earlier.

You could look at what each end was listening to growing up. A 10 year old born in 1964 was listening to [Disco Duck](https://youtu.be/ynWhozyOoZQ). A 10 year old born in 1981 was listening to [Just one Fix](https://youtu.be/XYYGKCanqfA). There's your generation divide. (And yes, I know Disco Duck came out in 1976, and Just one Fix in 1992. I was exaggerating for effect in order to show just how much music changed in so short a time. I could have used [Kerosene](https://youtu.be/EXV6EmSBULY) which came out just 10 years after Disco Duck)

I could almost never do them as well, because one eye is dominant. I don't have very good depth perception because I don't have very good binocular vision. It's also why I sucked so much at ball sports in school, leading to the weekly ignominy & humiliation of being one of the last to be picked in PE.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one thinking that while reading the OP's post. The only really good Dirty Harry movie is the first one. Each after that there's an exponential drop in quality.

You should look up Don McGlashan's discography. He was the lead singer and songwriter of The Mutton Birds, as well as Blam Blam Blam and The Front Lawn, along with being occasionally part of From Scratch, and releasing a couple of albums under his own name.

Were the 90s really that good?

I was the same. I went to university in 1988, aged 17. I was getting $100 /week from student allowances and getting another $80 from a part-time job. I was living in a student flat paying $70 /week for a room, buying all my own food, paying my share of utilities and still had enough to go out for a drink or go clubbing night on every week.  I pretty much spent the next decade doing that, ending up with two degrees, a post-grad diploma in teaching and a Masters in Education. And just $15,000 in student loans.  In 2000 my gf at the time bought a 2 bedroom house as an investment for just $60,000 with a 10% deposit, selling it a year later for $80k. That foreshadowed the start of the housing price insanity that is continuing to this day.

There was definitely more positive and optimistic vibe to the 1990s, esp compared to every decade since then. The USSR had fallen, the threat of nuclear armageddon which defined the 1980s was completely gone, and Democracies were (seemingly) springing up around the world. Sure there were still major conflicts going on, but (at least it felt) less than any recent decade before.  The economy was going great, unemployment was low, wages were decent, house prices were affordable (but starting to climb). Every month it seemed another absolute banger of an album was released. There were still major societal issues needing ti be addressed but progress was being made in those issues.  So yeah the 1990s was a good decade. A very good decade.

Research suggests the 1960s and 1970s produced highly resilient adults

My GP sent me for a CT scan last November. It picked up that I have a "dilated ascending aorta" – basically a bulge in the aorta wall that could rupture at any time. I need open heart surgery to have that bit cut out and replaced.  I'm currently on the Public wait list because my health insurance doesn't cover the full expense of the operation. I'm still trying to get my head around this. I'm fit and active, not overweight. My resting HR is in the low 40s. Why is this happening to me?!

My fellow single GenX’rs, do you think you will ever find love again?

Lots and lots and lots of marijuana. I remember buying a pound (yes a pound) of low quality weed for $100. Lost it all when I crashed my parents car.

[Mattel Heroes in Action](https://www.plaidstallions.com/mattel/76heroes4.jpg)  They were a big flop as they came out in 1974 or 75, just as the Vietnam war was ending. No-one wanted to be reminded about the war and so toy soldiers were pretty unpopular.  When I was a kid a toy shop still had several (about '77 or '78). They were still pricey – I don't think the toy shop reduced the price despite having them on the shelf for 3 or 4 years. I managed to save up and buy maybe 5. Always wish I had the entire set.  For some reason they were really popular in Italy and a couple of years a box of about 40 still carded of the Italian version (which were identical, only the packaging was difference) came up for Auction. At the age of 50 I finally completed the set!
