Could 50 yr old you take 25 yr old you in a fair fight?

I think I could. Nothing to do with late life physical prowess or anything, just a lot more practical anger. Like, 25 yr old me wouldn’t even realize he was in a fight until it’s too late.
Sufficient-Source-27@reddit
No, because time travel doesn’t exist yet.
Due_Prior_7962@reddit
Ill let you know in 10 years. But could 40 year old me beat 20 year old me? Hell no. I was 60lbs lighter, no high blood pressure, and stronger (still pretty strong these days minus my back).
I started to get unfit around 23-25. Gained a lot of weight.
Sensitive_Pilot_77@reddit
I’d knock my 25 year old self smooth out
Sensitive_Pilot_77@reddit
I should preface this by saying, 25yr old me talked shit. I was also a hit first ask questions later, type of AH. 49 yr old me is sick of my own shit and I’ve learned to Come from Mississippi with a hell of an upper cut.
chubby_pink_donut@reddit
25 year old me jumped out of helicopters. 47 year old me dumped a bowl of pistachio shells in the trash wrong and threw out my back
Sensitive_Pilot_77@reddit
Thank you! I just let out the worst cackle and woke the dogs! 😂but I feel this.
Professional_Luck257@reddit
I feel this 😭
TacoBellerino@reddit
No winner. They would both be too handsy if you catch my drift
StevenGaryStout@reddit
I don't know. I have 25 years of training and experience over 25 year old me. Im stronger but probably not endurance wise.
FarCry5372@reddit
25 year old me was a Marine, martial artist and a rage filled human being. 55 year old me is chill.
Due_Palpitation2197@reddit
This is the only answer. It’s sad if the old you would even want to fight anymore lol
Ustob@reddit
Not true. I do and me and brothers and oldschool fellas have had this debate more then once. -funny thing is I had put that aggro shot to rest when I turned 31-33. But recently society got testy.
Due_Palpitation2197@reddit
Not sure I follow you in this response. Come again?
Ustob@reddit
all good. i couldnt understand it either..
Ustob@reddit
Hmm i cant translate it.
wtf!
itwillmakesenselater@reddit
Yep. I didn't start training in aikido til I was 31.
Agreeable_Day_7547@reddit
I think a more accurate question is, “Could you take your 25 year old self?”
Key-Struggle-5647@reddit
Then a firm no. But most 25 year old now days I'd fucking Kane the shit out of em
Agreeable_Day_7547@reddit
It’s astonishing how “The Ideal Woman & Man” changes every couple of generations when society signals Hollywood to bring back certain eras to tell us who’s attractive & who’s not. Some ad popped up saying Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Affleck, all our generation of men are washed up & push Timothy Chaletmet & Zendaya at us. This is the New Image for beautiful people they are marketing now. But I’d have to dissolve my own muscle mass to get that skinny. I”m just grateful I had the right body type for the era I was dating in.
Ok-Literature7782@reddit
There is no such thing as a fair fight. Speaking as a female that is. Yes I could take my 25-year-old self, but it would be by surprise and dirty. Physically she could whip my ass, but my mentality has changed. She wouldn't see it coming.
Agreeable_Day_7547@reddit
About 6-7yrs old, going to school with boys, my father told me “Even tho you are tall & athletic, if there’s a boy or man involved, you will never have a fair fight.” And he taught me to do things that were unsettling to say the least. The older I got the more brutal the lesson. Unfortunately, other than this, he was as worthless & absent as anyone can be.
Ustob@reddit
Yeah that’s what we all Think.
I think we’re all cooked in that fight
Relative_Form_641@reddit
Hell no. 2 bad shoulders a tweeked hip land a bum knee.
reasonable_lunatic73@reddit
Well, first off, if I HAD to fight my 25 y/o self, I (52) would probably have to suckerpunch me (25) and not let up. 25 was 205lbs with a six-pack and a 450lb bench press. 52 is lucky to bench 275lb after shoulder surgery. 25 was also a bit quicker, although not nearly as cagey as 52. It would be a good fight...
Ustob@reddit
The difference is he wants to fight a lot and you barely do. We both are gonna haveta be cheesy like fake handshake type dirty sh.
ComfortableSalt8631@reddit
No chance, at 25 I was a menace too society and at 50 society is a menace to me, yikes
Ustob@reddit
Facts. I would tell dude about today’s weird world all topsy turbulent and he’d probably give me a mercy free pass.
Owltiger2057@reddit
If I snuck up on him with a M4 maybe. That bastard could run ten miles, eat anything and spend the night doing things I still remember fondly but would die attempting now.
Ustob@reddit
Haha I’m sayin! “Didndidnshit thatvibstill remember fondly”
Bro lol
Ustob@reddit
Haha NO!! Wife shut me down the other night when I told her “I’m sick of you bringing HIM up And I’d blah blah” She cracked up saying 1999 me was on another level and. I said and what?? lol
Yeah all I got on him is tactics. But I think most of us are cooked stepping to our 24 year old prime Selves. -we both have that GenX smile when about to fight an intimidation OFFSETS. -we are cooked after 30 seconds.
—-so bottom line it has to be over quickly And unlikely. Simply put= I don’t want that smoke.
Informal_Stress_9953@reddit
Well, 50 Yr old me has about 100 lb on 25 year old me… :(
Owltiger2057@reddit
I weigh exactly the same thing at 69 that I did at 25. Unfortunately, the distribution has been radically altered and please let's not think about the fat to muscle ratio.
CauchyDog@reddit
Fuck no. I was graduating infantry school on an airborne ranger contract and could run marathons back then.
I only have one leg now and the good one is the prosthetic!
SarkyMs@reddit
As my only skill was biting, I am still as good at that
loquedijoella@reddit
I was a problem back then. I probably wouldn’t even talk to 25 year old me
CandidateReasonable4@reddit
No way 😅
Ok_Magician5842@reddit
Easily. I lift weights now and am in overall better shape. 25 yr old me was a lot of Doritos, Dr Pepper and computer porn.
ouijahead@reddit
So, you have to be careful not to end up in a position where 25 year old you could hammer fist you to death. You probably worked out 3-5 times a day back then.
Ok_Magician5842@reddit
No. I walked a good bit then, but most of my cardio was…well, gross. Today I am in much better shape. 25 year old me mostly survived by being funny
BaumFrosch@reddit
The 59 yr old could teach the 25 yr old me a few dirty tricks. As for beating the 25 yr old me, I doubt it, i boxed, played rugby and was an angry man
Wizchine@reddit
25 year old me was in good physical shape. He'd whoop my ass.
Old_Escape186@reddit
47 yr old me wouldn’t fight fair and would work the shit out of 25 yr old me.
Illustrious_Vast638@reddit
Yeah. 50 year-old me fights way dirtier than 25-year-old me. 25 year-old me still thought people care about chivalry and honor.
Significant-Stuff-88@reddit
46 year old me would bea the everlioving brakes off 25 year old me.
Weak_Astronaut1969@reddit
I’d make that bitch cry first…then kick her ass all over town!😂
spanktacular66@reddit
No, 25 was strong as an ox and had better cardio.
Queasy-Flan2229@reddit
Yeah, she way way too idealistic and would have wanted to "just talk about it instead of resorting to violence like a Neanderthal."
As for me, I'm just over it and not willing to put up with anyone's nonsense, not even young-me's.
Call_Me_Papa_Bill@reddit
Yeah, because at 25 I tried to avoid getting hurt. At 50 everything hurt and I just wouldn’t give a shit.
MutedOrange3758@reddit
At 25 I was in the best physical shape of my life following seven years of a manual labor job. Today I have to psych myself up to get out of my recliner.
mtrawn@reddit
As a fifty year old I don't believe in fair fights. A good way to lose.
LadySlayinem@reddit
Yea, idk. I was fighting guys back then. You know, the skeevy DV boyfriends that you don't know are like that until they try to put paws but they bit off more than they could chew cause they didn't know you could take that hit and then square up? My fights were never fair. Now I wear glasses, get winded and can be taken out by a 8 lb cat. All she has to do is lay on me while I'm laying down. She just log rolls and I can't get up😂😂😂
Alpha_Mad_Dog@reddit
If 25 year old me had dropped acid or taken shrooms that day (which I did at times), then it might take me a bit to realize what was happening. So I'd probably loose.
mittychix@reddit
I was kind of a lightweight at 25. At 50 I was told more than once I was intimidating. I guess 25yo me wouldn’t have messed with big scary 50yo me.
Sgt-Rob-USMC@reddit
Hells no!… I was a lean mean Marine in top physical conditioning, damn near invincible… no one could beat that guy.
vespers191@reddit
No. I was working much harder back then, and that was before various surgeries that have since slowed me down.
MaudeLebowski69@reddit
Hell no. I was a powerlifter back in those days. Now I’m just skinny and post menopause. And it sucks.
inDefenseofDragons@reddit
Yeah definitely. I started BJJ when I was 27. Not that I’m a Billy bad ass, but I had zero clue how to fight, much less handle a wrestler, before that.
immortalis88@reddit
Same boat here although I didn’t start until 38.
Reno-Raines@reddit
I think I could. I am stronger than my 25 year old self and I have studied a lot of martial arts since then.
Rediscovered_Magpie@reddit
Yes. I have at least three stones on that skinny little minx. I'd break her like a twig.
catm0m4lyfe@reddit
Same. I'd knock me over and sit on me, no problem!

Im 66 beat up at 30 year old.
lordwreynor@reddit
Hell no. 25 yo me had a fuckton of pent up rage just waiting to be released.
otchris@reddit
The last thing 50 yo me is going to do is fight fair.
easzy_slow@reddit
Be one helluva fight, at 50 I was way stronger, but less wind. If I could shorten it up I would win. 25 year old could beat me if he prolongs it.
Hikikomori_Otaku@reddit
fair fight? hell no I could run a marathon on 45 minutes of sleep at that age. In a real fight? Yeah, nothings fair.
Some-Mistake-8457@reddit
Oh fuck no!
Hot_messed@reddit
25 year old me was a “sloppy drunk”, I could wipe the floor with her today!
CuriousMost9971@reddit
25 year old me would slap me around. Im a bit more crippled up. He could run 15 miles first and still slap me around.
mobilene@reddit
Neither 50-year-old me nor 25-year-old me ever wanted to fight. We'd probably just crack open beers, the 50-year-old me warning 25-year-old me not to marry that girlfriend, and 25-year-old me quietly thinking, "damn, I look tired."
technicallysupportiv@reddit
Nope.
Lost a lot of muscle mass and arthritis is a bitch.
DragonXIIIThirteen@reddit
No way. 25yr old me was in the military. 180lbs of lean muscle with a bad attitude and a quick temper. 52 year old me is 210lbs of chill.
TheMajikMouse@reddit
This right here. I hate to rain on OPs premise, but if you are angrier now than you were at 25, something has gone really wrong with the process of growing older and wiser.
Any-Neighborhood98@reddit
If you are thinking about fighting your younger self you have grown little in 25 years.

25 year old was doing karate 4 days a week. 50 year old me was powerlifting and weighed 75 more pounds. I say quicker 25 year old takes it.

Neither of us is gonna fight fair .
GenXyupornope@reddit
Yup
GenXyupornope@reddit
Nope
Aggromemnon@reddit
I was like a bull at 25. 50 year old me would get beat down, but not before gouging out an eye or biting off an ear.
cCriticalMass76@reddit
Yes
CommunicationHappy20@reddit
I’d whoop by scrawny 25 yo ass. She’s have it coming too.
CherryGripe75@reddit
25 yo me was dealing with a baby with an acquired brain injury due to birth issues, and a toddler with autism. she was a boss bitch and not someone to trifle with, I aint fighting her, I honor her.
50Target@reddit
The fact you’re alive and sound like you’re still doing well is a testament to the fact you’re still a boss bitch. I fear anyone with the strength to do what you’ve done.
You are an oak.
tigers692@reddit
Let me see if I have this right, are you asking if 25 year old me, the special force combat controller that jumped out of helicopters and was a bad ass, could beat up the 50 year old me that’s broken from jumping out of helicopters and is a disabled vet? Do I get to plan? If I use a taser I might be able to get the upper hand, otherwise I’m dog meat! :-)
DogsAreOurFriends@reddit
Yeah, I don't get it.
Sure feeling good and being in shape at 50 is awesome, and I know there are some outlier 50 year olds that are truly dangerous along with some who were complete slobs at 25 who later in life saw the light, but for the most part.... no.
vikrambedi@reddit
In a fair fight, 25 year old me would demolish current me. But, current me wouldn't get into a fair fight, and 25 year old me was too dumb to know the fight wasnt fair.
DogsAreOurFriends@reddit
In the Marines, the first thing my LINE instructor told us was to forget fighting fair.
Representative-Mean@reddit
Hell no. I would whoop my ass. I exercised back then and am a pretty strong guy to begin with. But my younger, quicker self could get my ass handed to myself (that really sounds weird)
TinyMachine6735@reddit
25 year old me was a bouncer in nightclubs, while I went to school. 50 year old me was way out of shape compared to 25 year old me. I think 25 year old me would clean my clock.
Cold-Guidance6433@reddit
50 year old me is stronger and meaner so 25 year old me should probably run.
Arboga_10_2@reddit
probably not. I’m in similar shape as I was but we get slower as we age. Everything deteriorates.
_Silent_Android_@reddit
I was kinda pudgy at 25, I'm much more fit in my 50s, so yeah, I'd knock some sense into that young punk.
No_Rub_9452@reddit
25 yr old me would knock 50yr old me the fark out. I was so much faster back then.
1blueShoe@reddit
It’d be a fight to the death because 25 yr old me was a stupid youth, no sense of sense….51 year old me is a crazy middle aged menopausal lady.. but probably more stubborn now..and learnt some tricks in those 26 years… we’d still sit and share a dooby and a cuppa T afterwards though 🤷🏻♀️🤣
mighty3mperor@reddit
I'm in the best shape of my life and 25 year old me was drunk and high a lot of the time, but it might depend on the drugs. If I'd been smoking weed, that should be an easy win. Snorting speed might give 25 year me an edge.
aurora_ethereallight@reddit
I'm 45, I could absolutely take down my younger self... tbh this isn't about how fit we are even now and then... it's about how well you know your opponent and their weak spots.
Mypetdolphin@reddit
Definitely. 25 year old me was basically a scared new mom. 19 year old me on the other hand had some major rage issues.
One_Statement5435@reddit

New_Honeydew3182@reddit
Hell no
Gold-Pilot-8676@reddit

Playful_Question538@reddit
Not a fucking chance. I'd shoot 25 year old me. I hate fighting now. I fought a lot when I was young and my hands just can't do it now. Nor can my mentality. I mean, I can defend myself if I have to but I don't want to.
dwarling@reddit
Sounds like the famous scene from Indiana Jones 😂
Playful_Question538@reddit
I wish I knew what that scene was. Do you have a link? I loved that movie when I was a kid.

Here you go: https://youtu.be/kQKrmDLvijo
Playful_Question538@reddit
That is exactly what I needed tonight. Thank you so much. I don't know you but I love you now.
dwarling@reddit
Fun fact! This wasn’t the way the scene was written, but Harrison Ford was deathly ill that day with a high fever and said “Why don’t I just shoot the guy?”
Grigori_the_Lemur@reddit
Nope. Younger me was convinced he could not die and did riskier moves. He also benched 350, squatted over 700, and was in good cardio. But he was stupid, too. Maybe I'd get lucky but I would not count on it.
Mydnight69@reddit
Current me has a black belt in BJJ, 25 me only had TKD.
Fuck, I sound like Rogan.
AutVincere72@reddit
At 25 i could kick a 6'5" person in the nose without jumping. Now I can kick a 5'8" person in the nipple with or without jumping.
Mydnight69@reddit
Hahah. That's about right. I remember being able to side kick almost vertical. Now I can ride a sidekick to the post office.
Alit_Quar@reddit
I started at 45. I think I’m about to get my purple. 25 year old me wouldn’t have a chance. Hope I live to get my BB.
freesoloc2c@reddit
25yo me would dog walk 55 yo me. Speed endurance, strength, stamina. I was an Army Airborne Ranger at 25. 25yo me would violently stomp a mud hole in me.
Firm_Earth_5698@reddit
That sounds like an ugly fight.
Wiser, craftier, and better at pattern recognition vs faster, more explosive, and near indestructible. Somebody’s going to the hospital.
BucktoothedAvenger@reddit
Absolutely not. At 25, I was in my prime. Twice strong, much faster, and was still currently practicing MCMAP and a few other martial arts.
RetireWithoutBorders@reddit
Yep! I guarantee I was stronger at 25 than I was at 50 but I was WAY more confident and experienced at 50.
corptool1972@reddit
54 now, and yes. 25 was peak weight and lack of fitness for me. I was also a cigarette smoker then. Quit that 20 years ago and have had a regular fitness routine for the last 15 years. I would beat the crap out of 25 year old me.
Samoan_kiwi@reddit
My 25 year self would lay my ass out, and I've had my fair share off fisticuffs over the years. Nowadays I'm weak and brittle af 😪😔😬
loco_chub@reddit
25 yr old me would drop 52 the old me
Mededitor@reddit
Definitely. I went the traditional route: hard style and then soft style.
Don’t need to hurt nobody — easy does it. My younger self would be too forthright.
Single_Ad_159@reddit
I think you nailed it. 50yo me doesn’t have the time or the patience for that BS anymore. I think 25yo me might be a little surprised by his 50yo self.

40, Yes
ChiliAndRamen@reddit
No, but also neither of us would fight fair if it was a true life or death fight. If it was just a fight of pride or such my younger self would probably have let my older self win.
Chances are though we wouldn’t have fought and just shared some beverages and snacks.
Lumpy_Ad_1581@reddit
Oh yeah. Well.. hmmm.he had a wicked kick
ironlocust79@reddit
25 year old me was in really bad shape. I started working out seriously in my 30s Im 47 now, if I can hold this level for three more years I thinknit would be a close fight.
patrickwbateman@reddit
Yes but only because I’ve had an additional 25 years of combat sports/training. Younger me would’ve had the speed and reflex advantage, older me has the experience and probably slight power advantage. But the experience advantage alone is enough.
realityone22@reddit
Depends entirely on who's more pissed off
Impossible_Jury5483@reddit
Yup, I started strength training at 48. I started cardio on my late 30's. I also no longer smoke and am wiser now.
acoffeefiend@reddit
I think nit would be pretty fair TBH. I've stayed in pretty good shape and am stronger than at 25. Plus I've taken a lot of self defense iver the years. 25yr old me had better endurance.
It'd be a hell of a match.
Character_Problem_93@reddit

Pissed-n-Stayin@reddit
100%. 25 year old me was strong and fast and knew enough to win a “fair” fight…but old man me knows there is no such thing as a fair fight. Over in under 20 seconds.
grimwomyn@reddit
Oh, most Def.
Jealous_Look_9337@reddit
Heck no!!!! I couldn't take on a 16 year old version of me. I was faster, stronger, and had a gas tank that can last forever. I can last 2 rounds in an MMA match with my old self before I gas out.
reachers_toothbrush@reddit
I'd beat 25 year old me by telling him he's going to go bald soon and just watch him emotionally crumble.
Wacko_Banana_Pants@reddit

More_Law6245@reddit

ih8theeagles@reddit
Yeah I know unhappy people lol. I would be fighting one in this hypothetical. Young me can have the W on the meanness. I’m a Grampa.
revolutionoverdue@reddit
My thoughts exactly
EricHill78@reddit
I was drunk 95% of the time when I was 25 so it would be an easy win for older me.
reachers_toothbrush@reddit

More_Law6245@reddit
What my mind thinks it can do compared to what my body can actually do are completely two different things.
Then again, being over 50 years old I would have to question on how you got into a situation in were you are getting into a fight with a 25 year old, I would have thought you would of had more street smarts by the age of 50 to outthink a 25 year old before potentially having your arse handed to you.

Southern-T-48@reddit
This is a draw. Both would be bloody. Neither would want to do it again.
25 year old me was unhealed, in amazing shape, had a quick trigger, and would fight to kill.
50 year old me is healed, in amazing shape, knows where to strike body for maximum damage, but would fight to protect myself.
Robbo_Craigo@reddit
Definitely. I’m 50 pounds heavier and a helluva lot meaner.
w3woody@reddit
60 year old me may be able to take out 25 year old me because 60 year old me doesn't give a fuck and is willing to fight dirty.
50 year old me could have easily taken out 25 year old me because before I got my weight down to where it is now (where I weigh about what I did when I was 25--right around 185), I out-massed 25 year old me by about 90 pounds. So 50 year old me could just sit on 25 year old me and 25 year old me wouldn't have a chance.
Nor, when I'm honest with myself, would 60 year old me have a chance, either.
Shoboy_is_my_name@reddit
Yes, I’m 50 and I’d destroy my 25yro self. Started lifting in my late 30’s and while I still enjoy bullshit “food” like pizza and nachos, I eat that stuff occasionally now and I basically lived off that shit in my 20’s. I’m stronger now, far more durable and ‘tough’ and my entire mental approach to protecting myself is light years better than my 20’s.

nextCosmicBuffoon@reddit
C'mon, unless the 50YO has been physically active for years, and spends time training in martial arts or combat sports a 25 YO would kick their ass in a fair fight. I'm not talking about starting with an unsuspected hit to take them off their feet. I'm talking about a fight where both are around the same weight, eye contact is made and both know its about to go down.
The only way I see the 50 winning is by keeping their cool and using some object in the environment unexpectedly. If the fight lasts past a couple blows the 25 is coming out on top.

Well, I know EXACTLY where to hit 25 year old me. I only need to land one shot. Question is, can I?
25 year old me is MUCH faster than I am.
I am much stronger than him.
I am also MUCH smarter than him.
As a wise old ex-marine bartender used to tell 25-year old me, "Old age and treachery win out over youth and skill every time."
It's certainly no guarantee, but if I had to make a bet, I'd take 6 years ago me over 31 years ago me.
Mysterious_Chef_228@reddit
I wouldn't want to try. That guy always had some kind of a weapon at the ready, and of I was to try it'd have to be a quiet attack with something heavy from behind.
Doja_Gnat@reddit
Oh hell yeah I’m taking that silly bitch down. I have better accessories now.
Also, I’m totally beating myself up everyday really easily, I just look at myself sideways and ta-dah, new bruises
zabacam@reddit
LOL yeah, probably. Def was stronger and in better shape, but man. Def thought I was tougher then than I really was!
BOSS_OF_THE_INTERNET@reddit
No way in hell. I was a shredded infantryman jumping out of perfectly good airplanes with 90 pounds on my back.
Today, I'm a nerd that plays disc golf and walks hos toy poodle.
Moody_GenX@reddit
Almost described me. I was an Airborne MP in fantastic shape. Now I'm medically retired gaming all day getting pestered by my Maltipoo
Bloatedoldman@reddit
I was not in the military but I was about 80lbs lighter and went to the gym like my life depended on it. Now I'm a fat body Dad with multiple sclerosis and 3 cats

You're still a badass dude.
Infinite-Lychee-182@reddit
Ha! I walk my toy fox terrier.
timothra5@reddit
Yep, best shape of my life in the military actively training in combat sports vs. a potato.
MAdcock6669@reddit
It would be an interesting fight 🤔
neener691@reddit
I would win the fight by offering my own top shelf expensive alcohol that 25 year old me would never be able to afford and saying let's say I won and you can have the bottle (( mike drop.))
Eehwoo@reddit
I would kick fuck outta that little idiot
bigsampsonite@reddit
Depends on training. My body hurts and is falling apart. But I've trained half of my life and just about 50. I started as a child in San Jose and have trained in multiple arts. I am 6'2 300 lbs. and hike weekly. I feel my experience and heart are great but a 25 year old me was already 15 years into hard training like 20 hours plus a week (I taught 2 hours a day that is included).
50 year old Sampson loses to 25 year old Sampson imo. I don't want to fight at all at my age but at 25 I was all about combat in and out of training.
Own-Profile5541@reddit
Hell no. 25yr old me was a fearless hot head. My younger self would kick my old ass
esham666d79@reddit
I think I’d take me!
SenseiT@reddit
Im not sure. At 25 I was pretty fit and had just started martial arts training. Now in my 50s, I am way better trained, experienced and way stronger but I also have old man bones.
One_Hour_Poop@reddit
It would be a toss up, like that Gatorade commercial of Old Michael Jordan versus Young Michael Jordan.
Young Me had youth, vitality, and energy, but Old Me has decades of experience, anger, and physical labor.
Flip of a coin who wins.
Certain-Sock-7680@reddit
I think it would be a close run thing.

krack1925@reddit
Nope.
MikeOrTara@reddit
No way. Not even close.
Carbonman_@reddit
50 year old me would absolutely demolish 25 year old me in any kind of fight.
The 25 year old me hadn't studied and instructed martial arts for over 20 years or packed on about 25 lbs. (11 kg.) of muscle. 50 year old me had realized that he was mortal and every serious physical altercation was an unwanted risk to his life - simply banging one's head against a concrete wall or curb can be fatal.
Conscious-Mulberry17@reddit
I think about this all the time. There are no fair fights, and all of them come with the possibility of death, disability, disfigurement, and imprisonment.
I worked with a young woman whose boyfriend got stabbed during a bar fight, lost a lot of blood, and suffered some kind of permanent issue. I don’t remember what.
A buddy of mine used to hang out at a local dive bar. Another guy he knew got into it with a stranger over a woman. The stranger was some kind of amateur mixed martial artist. The guy ended up getting his skull bashed open on the concrete outside. The MMA guy went to prison, and the other guy is severely mentally disabled now. Like, he needs constant care.
DFWPunk@reddit
Maybe. 50 year old me would have a huge weight advantage, which maybe would also be a disadvantage.
EyeOfTheTiger77@reddit
I think so. 50 year old me has about 20 lbs and 10+ years worth of experience kickboxing and jiu jitsu. 25 year old me was in OK shape, knew wrestling but had no clue about boxing or ground fighting.
805falcon@reddit
Yep. Im in much better shape now, have 25 extra years of martial arts training, and am much more ruthless now than I was then. 50 y/o me murders my 25 y/o counterpart and it’s not even close
MikeyRidesABikey@reddit
50 year old me could absolutely take 25 year old me down in a fair fight
LanceJade@reddit
I'm 60 now, but I've been in bad shape since 50. 25 year old me was in the military. It would be no contest. 😆
--LowBattery--@reddit
Not a chance. I was in amazing shape back then and actually fought now and again. Now it hurts to walk. I'm slower and don't hit as hard.
Conscious-Mulberry17@reddit
Totally. Twenty five year-old me was stringy, untested, lacked self confidence, and was never much of a fighter. Fifty year-old me has years of grappling training and can throw a pretty good punch if he’s got to. Fifty year-old me knows his strengths, has seen a thing or two, and pragmatic about protecting himself. The kid I was would be waking up from a surprise nap before he even raised a fist.
Now, down any of this apply to your average 25 year-old? Hell no: just the hypothetical situation above. I’m an older man and no one’s idea of a brawler, anyway. I hold no illusions about those things. You give me an opportunity to get out of a stupid fight and I’ll take it.
Local_Book_9104@reddit
The fight wouldn’t be fair
Mguidr1@reddit
No way. I was just out of the Marine Corps and could’ve demolished my current self in a fair fight. Key word is fair. Old bastards like me don’t fight fair. I’ll avoid confrontation if I can … too easy to get hurt these days and my body don’t heal
the_Snowmannn@reddit
25 year old me was about 55 lbs lighter, but with way more muscle, speed, and stamina. This 50 year old fatass wouldn't stand a chance.
grumpyold@reddit
No, but 60 y/o me would wipe the floor with 50 y/o me. That dude was seriously unhealthy.
Bromodrosis@reddit
Nope. I was powered by rage and alcohol until I was about 27.
KerryBoehm@reddit
25 year old me, no. But I do like my odds 55 yr old me vs 30 yr old me. Back then I thought I was going to die when I attempted to ride a bike around the block. Now, it’s no big surprise if I clock 70+ in a weekend.
Evening-Recording193@reddit
I’ve started working out in the past year & I think with my extra weight & muscle I could kick my younger self’s ass. I was pretty scrawny at 25
Delilah_insideout@reddit
No, I've never fought fair... gotta stack the odds in my favor!

I am so mean compared to the nice and gentle person that I used to be at 25.

The 30yrs in between the two times have been full of hard lessons.

Grandfeatherix@reddit
why would I fight fair? and even then, no
Elendril333@reddit
25 year old me was rangling and riding giant show jumper horses six days a week and hauling hay bales around that weighed the same as her. She'd kick my ass.

I'm 54 and 25 year old me would absolutely wipe his ass with 54 year old me. There have been some more drastic than normal things take place, such as severe disability, in the last 20 years, but even on a level playing field, 25 year old me could fight better than most. I can't win a checker game these days.
Eazy12345678@reddit

only way 50 year old could take 25 year old is if 50 year old dedicated life to wrestling and combat sports and fitness

P.S. This is a hypothetical situation.... Not a homicidal maniac. 😁
DeadMetalRazr@reddit
Not a chance. Although 50 year old me has a significant weight advantage 😆
abetterlogin@reddit
50 year old me is smart enough not to fight a 25 year old. So that’s a win in my book.
Quirky_Commission_56@reddit
50 year old me would me would get her ass kicked by 25 year old me, because 25 year old me could easily push 3 overweight adults weighing a total of 500+ pounds up and down wheelchair ramps every single day, whereas 50 year old me is now paying the price for doing so.
Dangerous-Web-1962@reddit
yeah, 50yr old me is finishing a fight however and as quickly as he can. Nasty man lol
endlesssearch482@reddit
Eh, the 50 year old me has learned there’s no such thing as a fair fight. I know I’d win, because I’ve learned to cheat to win.
asathehound@reddit
Weight and endurance are probably about the same. However, 25 year-old me had some serious anger issues and probably would not manage emotions well. So I think there’s a really good chance that he would run me over with a car or stab me several times.
LarryGriff13@reddit
Zero chance here. I was in good shape at 50 but 30 years in an office job takes a toll. 25 year old me was elite
Rough_Respect6192@reddit
Absolutely NOT!
Far-Difficulty-9279@reddit
25 year old me had just gotten out of the military; 50 year old me is happy when I hit 10,000 steps a day.
While I outweigh 25yo me, not nearly enough of it is muscle.
bombjon@reddit
25 year old me still thinks there's such thing as a fair fight, just like 25 year old OP thinks.

The lack of rules applies to both sides equally, so whatever you do is perfectly fair.
HapDrastic@reddit
I have 2.5 years to prepare for this fight and he doesn’t know it’s coming. I got this. But 25yo me vs me right now? Who knows - he’s in better shape, but I have several years of BJJ under my belt (granted, it’s been about a decade now, so not fresh).
Experiment_262@reddit
We're GenX though, every good action movie told us that you were a two week training montage, with epic music, away from kicking his / your own ass, you got two and a half years man. Queue up Survivor and get to it.
Difficult_Scratch549@reddit
Definitely. I'm now an empty-nester who works out everyday. Plus, I know exactly what buttons to push at 25 yo me 😆.
Experiment_262@reddit
57 year old me would pound the ever living crap out of 25 year old me because of my time in law enforcement plus MMA, BJJ training, none of which I had at 25.
Time to full recovery afterwards? 25 year old me wins that race easily.
Stuff hurts more and for longer now that I'm older.
Lcky22@reddit
I do have at least 100 pounds on 25 year old me
nycinoc@reddit
100% Back then my friends used to call me "Little Buddha" because of my belly. Didn't work out, sh*t diet, smoked 2 packs a day.

cagirlinoh@reddit
Absolutely. 25 year old me was skinny, zero muscles and smoker who never worked out. 50 year old me is still relatively thin and the opposite on those other points. 💪
OliveBadger1037@reddit
Yes, you bet. 50 year old me knows jiujitsu and boxing, doesn't smoke, and lifts weights. 25 year old me was pot head, smoker, and drinker who could barely walk a mile.

My double nickel body of two back surgeries, a shoulder surgery, spinal stenosis running rampant, and prostate cancer wreaking havoc on my ability to empty my bladder would stand no chance against my 25 year old self that was working on construction sites, running up and down ladders and hauling multiple 5 gallon buckets of paint at time all day long.
DragonConCigarGroup@reddit
I was in the Marine Corps, and in the best shape of my life. I doubt it.
Arkhamina@reddit
Oh hell no. I worked at UPS then, and worked out on the clock, 5+ hours a night.
Now, 25 years later, I have had 5? Different rounds of physical therapy for my neck and back.
AnybodyCanyon@reddit
Maybe? 25 year old me wouldn’t think of going straight for the knees like 50+ year old me does. Outside of that, no, it would end badly for present me.

Not a clue. I’m a lot smarter now, a lot meaner and a perpetual IDGAF attitude, so I’d fight dirty and I know where my weaknesses are. But the 25 year old me was a military school graduate, a rugby player and a volunteer firefighter who spent a lot of time in the gym. The old me could easily pick up the current me and throw me halfway across the room.

25 year old me was quicker, more flexible, and could take a hit. I may have more skills now, but 1 hit and I'm down. Plus, I could still fall at 25 and bounce back up. I don't bounce anymore, I splat.
imalizzard@reddit
25 year old me would be too wasted to meet me during the day, and too busy partying all night to bother. Plus she only had a landline, hard to get in touch with her.
JeromyEstell@reddit
Nope. 25 year old me was in the military and fresh from Afghanistan the year before. Now nearing 50 me, many years out of the military, with compressed discs, bad knees and everything that goes with it, would be “good night sleep tight, you’re done old man”.
To be fair; Near 50 me would not antagonize 25yo me into a fight either. An adage from one of my Instructors: I will not reach you how to fight. I will teach you how to win.
-CgiBinLaden-@reddit
Now that I really know myself at this age I think I team up with my younger self and we would team up to take on anybody
shiny1988@reddit
Younger me would have run away and I couldn’t catch her. But in a fight? I’ve never had muscles this big or stamina as I do at 54 (recently learned about weights.) She would break in half. Coughing from cigarettes.
poorfolx@reddit
At 55 I tell my ol' lady, I got 8 seconds of fight left in me, best not waste it on "that punk," and Life rolls on. 😎

PrairieGrrl5263@reddit
There's no such thing as a fair fight, but yeah, no question. At 25 I was incredibly naive and innocent. Your standard overprotected Christian girl, in many ways essentially defenseless.
At 50 I had almost 20 years married to a United States Marine who taken an interest in filling in the gaps of my training and education.
CaptainBerger78@reddit
I'd fuck that boy up. The amount of shit I have been through since being a teen has made a physically and mentally strong man. His colorbone would shatter before he could realize it.
JackFuckCockBag@reddit
I'm close enough to 50 so I'll chime in. It would be a hard fight but I think 50 year old me would win. I've kept myself in good shape and have exactly the same body type I had at 25 but about 10lbs heavier. 25 year old me might have the endurance but 50 year old me is a lot meaner.

kalelopaka@reddit
50 year old me might have a chance. 60 year old me would not. 25 year old me was lifting quarters of beef every day, and still had the strength and resilience of my teenage years left. 50 year old me had the same training as my younger self, but the resilience was cut back a little. Now at 60, with my spinal issues, I wouldn’t last a minute or two.
Last_Cod_998@reddit
When I was in the army, bar fights was a hobby amongst our friends.
In my twenties I fought a lot of 50 yo red necks, bikers etc. I would say it was 50/50. A brick layer wasn't as fast, but when they connected it was sparks. The difference is, I'd wake up in the morning sore, they'd be sore for a week. I brought this up to a pugalist in the fight, and even he agreed.
I see lots of videos of old men getting taken out by younger men here on reddit, and I'd say if you're in your 50s you should work on flexibility and balance. Of course the real advantage of age is not getting into a physical altercation to begin with.
kalelopaka@reddit
Or make sure you can finish it quick.
errorseven@reddit
Nope. 25 year old me was a beast.
formercotsachick@reddit
I could because I am super mean now compared to that naive little slip of a girl. I also have 40 pounds on her, so if I knocked her off balance I could just sit on her and that would be the end of that.
Yankeewithoutacause@reddit

Mitth-raw-nuruodo50@reddit
Probably not. I’m 49 and 6’4 280lbs and have wrestled and trained jiu jitsu since I was in 6th grade. 25 year old me was a beast and would manhandle me. What I learned in skill and patience is no match for the strength and endurance I had back then. Only way old me wins is by getting lots cry and young me get too aggressive and makes a big mistake.
No_Alarm_3993@reddit
25 yo me didn't have constant pain for years. I was working 12 to 16 hours of manual labor daily. While I was heavier, I was also built like a brick. 25 yo me would just clean the floor with 50yo me.

25 yo me was in shape. 30 pounds lighter, bicycled everywhere, worked standing up lifting shit all day. Used to do acroyoga for fun.
50 yo me had been working a desk job for almost 2 decades. Slow as fuck reflexes.
Any-Video4464@reddit

Cheska1234@reddit
Same.
Crafty_Calico@reddit
Well, 25 year old me was in top physical condition, l law enforcement defensive tactics and firearm’s instructor, participated in survival games, and worked midnight shift in a hardcore area of the city. The 50 year old me (actually now pushing 60), has medical and some mobility problems, but i don’t rush into things, more methodical in my actions and still have a few tricks up my sleeve. So I guess it would depend on the situation.

Definitely. I’m a 2nd Dan TKD, 2nd Dan Bagua and 1st Dan Tai Chi guy now. Also, even more angry and quicker to explode now vs at 25.

25-year-old me was a monster. Back then I would have alternating days of going to jiu-jitsu or full contact karate. I was actively lifting weights on a consistent program and I had a hell of a lot of stamina.
I'm 49 years old now and I know my limitations. I'm no longer actively training in combat sports and that definitely takes the edge off. I haven't rolled with anyone in a few years and haven't done any sparring in about a decade.
A lot of the guys here who say yes don't realize how much they've aged. One of my hobbies is watching street fight videos. Whenever I see videos of folks around our age the most noticeable thing is that they are SO SLOW. We don't realize how much of our speed is been taken by father time.
What's crazy is watching these old guys fight dudes in their twenties. Buff older guys are getting their asses handed to them by skater kids in their twenties because when they throw punches it looks like they're punching through water.

Sure 50yr old me is a 2nd degree black belt and 25yr old me was a night shift worker on an assembly line in a factory perpetually tired.

Yes. Because while i was never this honor in a fight person. I’m even more savvy on doing what it takes to win a fight now then at 25.

Yes easily. I've now got 8-10 years of martial arts and sparring under my belt. Now, could I take 35 year old me? Probably not
Sallydog24@reddit
I will say this...
Recently I was messing around with my 23 year old in the kitchen, just pushing each other to see who would move first. I got the bright idea hey son lets go outside and see who is stronger.... that was the day I came to the reality, he could take me. The kid is solid rock... I am a semi fit 55 but this kid wow
changelingcd@reddit
Not unless I sat on him, no.
ConsequenceNational4@reddit
Yes my strength is the same if not greater than 25 yr old me.
JunkyardReverb@reddit
Without a doubt 25 year old me would wreck present day me. If I had kept up with the training I was doing back then it would probably go the other way. But I didn’t. I’m ashamed of how far I let myself go. At 25, I was a beast. I’m thoroughly broken now.
Bong_appetit@reddit
At 25 I had undiagnosed PTSD from the military. Now I know what is going on in my head and can control anger. I'm much more aware of my surroundings and a lot smarter than 25 year old me. I think I would take some shots but I know I'm outmatched with speed and would be looking for the body slam. One of us is going to need an ambulance.
krisann67@reddit

I was way more fit and much bigger at 50 than at 25. At 56, I'm just bigger. But yes.
Foxingmatch@reddit
OMG, no. I'm a fit and strong 50-something, but in my twenties I was in a dojo five days a week, worked out regularly, and had defined muscles. I also knew (and still know) how to fight. If I had to fight 25yr old me, I'd bow out, tell her I love her, and offer her a bit of life advice instead.

25 year old me was recently out of the Active duty U.S. Army, had better cardio, anger issues, not as much to lose. I think 25 year old me would be a blur of destruction against 50 year old me.

I only picked up martial arts as a 51-year-old. Before then, I had no real training in how to fight. I somehow made it through most of my life without ever having had to be in a fight. I guess I just got along with everyone. Now, I know what to do and such. So yeah, maybe my 25-year old self would have the edge from stamina and strength, but current me knows what to do and has practiced solidly for six years now.
hopelesscaribou@reddit
25 year old me was doing mixed martial arts and would solidly kick my 56 year old ass.
A wonky knee, and a fraction of the flexibility I had decades ago would not work in my favour.
I would kill to have my 25 year old levels of fitness and recovery back. Now I live in fear of the next bodily breakdown and/or accident.

25 year old me was a beast. I wouldn’t last long against her. And she studied self defense. Her reflex time alone would do me in.

I don't understand this question. Why would I want to fight 25 year old me, even as a hypothetical? I would give her a hug and say it's all going to be okay, don't worry too much.
Expensive_Air965@reddit
My father taught me how to fight and he trained golden gloves fighters. So I knew how to throw a punch from the time I was like 8 years old and I had a very, very volatile bad temper where I went into blackout rage. I am angrier at 48 than I was at 25 but I also have degenerative arthritis and EDS. My 25-year-old self would kick my ass.
_ism_@reddit
25-year-old hadn't slashed anyone's tires yet but 50 year old me has probably a few times
eddie964@reddit
Interesting question.
At 25, I was a chain smoker and heavy drinker, but even back then I was making some attempt at fitness, so I wasn't completely out of shape. I'd done a little bit of martial arts training, but honestly it probably wouldn't have served me well in a real fight -- I'd learned a bunch of techniques that I probably never would have been able to pull off.
I peaked late physically -- I was in the best shape of my life in my early/mid-40s, by a long shot. I was training in boxing and had some additional martial arts under my belt, too. I was running semi-competitively, hitting the track and doing obstacle races. I ran a community bootcamp and used to run circles around college kids.
I'm now 56 and the father of a 7-year-old. I simply don't have enough time to work out the way I used to. So I'm definitely not in the kind of shape I was in 10 years ago. However, I still run regularly, lift weights and hit the bag when I can. I'm about as strong as I've ever been in my life, and have 25 pounds on my 25-year-old self -- some of that is dad bod, but much of it is muscle.
I don't move as fast as I used to, and I take longer to recover after a sprint or exertion. My reflexes definitely aren't what they used to be. But I still have power, and I have training, experience, grit and physical confidence that I lacked 29 years ago.
All in all, I'd say Old Me would kick Young Me's ass.
Stevie2874@reddit
I’m just a straight up bad ass at 51 so 25 Marine me would get stomped out like a nasty cigarette butt.
jimmyjazz2000@reddit
Fairly easy question to answer in my case: 50 year old me would kick 25 year old me’s ass. Here’s why:
When I was 24 or so, I got into a bar fight. Not my fault, the other guy was being a total asshole. I threw the only punch before the bouncers peeled us apart. They kicked him out because the entire crowd witnessed his assholery and came to my defense. But while he was being frogmarched out, he said something that stuck w me. “You hit like a girl.” And it was true, I put all my hate and anger into that one punch, and it came out like a windmill slap.
It occurred to me that I didn’t actually know how to throw a punch. About a year later, I found a boxing gym and learned how. I got pretty into it, trained seriously for the Gold Gloves before lift got too busy. But I def learned how to throw a punch and defend myself.
25 year old me wouldn’t stand a chance.
Expensive_Air965@reddit
My father trained Golden glove boxers in the Air Force and he taught me how to fight when I was about 8 years old. THIS GIRL could have kicked your 25-year-old ass. You didn't punch like a girl. You punched like someone who didn't understand technique, there's a difference.

I was a lot more fit and competed in organized martial arts tournaments. I can’t lift up a VW beetle kind of farmer strength. I was also much faster as a runner.
But I could reduce conflict better in my old age
ExtremeCod2999@reddit
Yup. 25 yo me was 180 lbs, thin, but not in the wirey fast way. 57 year old me has spent the last 7 years in the gym and is 265 lbs, carry a fair amount of muscle, and some fat, so I'm bulky, retired from the military and work a few years in the federal prison system. 25 year old me would get beat down. Hard.
Cantseetheline_Russ@reddit
Not a chance. I was relatively fresh out of D1 wrestling at 25 and still active in the sport and working as a bouncer. 20+ years has put a lot of miles on my body and fighting was basically part of life then. I have mellowed so much I have zero desire to ever fight again.

How is it a "fair fight" if the 25 year old you didn't know he was fighting??
That aside, there is a lot of variables beyond age, and there are exceptions, but as a rule: a 25 year old beats a 50 year old 75% of the time or more.

HasturCrowley@reddit
50 year old me is still two years away. Provided nothing significant happens between now and then, I think 50 year old me would be fine. 25 year old me was mostly concerned with weed and sex. 50 year old me still likes sex and weed, but there's more self loathing and hate for the world in general.

Twenty-five year old me was dumb as a bag of hammers. Trusting. Emotional. Excellent physical condition.
Fifty year old me was a lot meaner. Borderline Sociopathic. Physically much stronger, but heavier and slower.
If fifty year old me got a chance to drop his left, he could just go home after that.

Superb-Alfalfa-4843@reddit
50 year old me could easily take on a 25 year old before my first bicep surgery (work injury, repetitive motion, had to have a revision, permanent injury now). To look at me now you wouldn't think I've been through what I have in my life including physical alterations with people at different points. I grew up getting into fights at school it continued into my mid 20s, I grew out of the situation and moved on.
Got morbidly obese (400lbs for me) changed my life and lost 200lbs, did it "old school" (diet and exercise) was left with muscle and flabby skin from doing factory work, had to carry 30ish lbs up a ladder 8 hours a day 5 days a week. Gained a lot of strength/stamina there and knew that all of the women I worked with if it came down to a fistfight I'd have wiped the floor with them 😂
But the strength I had before surgery is kinda gone from not working and the injury and the reinjury. I won't get much of my strength back either sadly, but I can still swing a baseball bat 😉

SarcasticCough69@reddit
At 50? Highly doubtful and I still worked out 7x a week like I do at 60. At 25 I'd been in the Army for about 7 years, one combat tour already (Desert Storm) and had quite a bit of pent up anger. I also worked out in the morning, at lunch, and usually ran 4-5 miles at night. Infantry life. On the weekends we'd go to a particular club just TO fight.
flutterbyski@reddit
Oh no definitely not. 25 year old me was physically fitter and full of rage, 50 year old me is pretty chill. If hypothetically im as fit as I was then possibly as 25 year old me might burn myself out before 50 year old me had even raised my blood pressure
Lobster70@reddit

Most fights end up on the ground anyway, so likely little running around. Still the 25 year old will have more stamina even in a ground battle. But there is something to say for old man strength. It seems guys who are active and do still lift some have really good functional strength, and it sometimes seems better than when I was 25. It could simply be in my head, but I feel stronger in many way than I did at 25.

50 year old me would just have to wait out fit 25 year old me. Sure, he's in much better shape, but sooner or later he's gonna start drinking and I can take my current anger out on him.
Different-Step-4600@reddit
25 yr old me would rather smoke with 50 yr old me than fight...I was working to many hrs then to have fighting energy. Still true.
Sore_Wa_Himitsu_Desu@reddit
Of course. 50 year old me realizes that “fair” doesn’t come in to it. And 50 year old me carries pepper spray and a pistol.

58 here. I sure can 😊. I am twice the size and stronger now than I was at 25 years old. Smarter and crazier 😜. I’ll choke my 25 year old self out quickly 😀.

Well, since 25 year old me was in the best shape of his life, trained in several different self defense styles and usually armed because of his job, I am going to have to say no.
ImCaffeinated_Chris@reddit
While 25 year old me was in incredible shape, 50 year old me has had so much more training. It would actually be a really good fight. I think 50 year old would win.
25 had boxing and hockey 50 had boxing, tkd, 20 years of Japanese jujutsu, and various other martial arts. And a lifetime of pent up anger 🤣
Efficient-Damage-449@reddit
I would have to fall on the benevolence of my younger self.

Probably. Like are we talking rules and ref and such or street fight?
My cardio sucks compared to 25 year old me, and I've got a ton of joint issues. My reflexes ain't exactly as fast... but I've got a number of years of Muay Thai under my belt, and an career in LE, behind me at 50. I'm not the safest person to jump on, for an old man in New Balances.

Maybe. Younger me was in really rough shape from chronic illness before they discovered effective medication to treat what was wrong with me. My knees and hands were arthritic nightmares, so current me could end things with a pretty good kick or a very firm handshake.
Robviously-duh@reddit
it wouldn't be fair... old me knows things... lol
optimal-gold976@reddit
Eh, it’s kinda 50/50. At 25 I was just getting out of the Army and in great shape, but I weighed probably 145lbs and hadn’t fully matured physically. I was an absolute stick. Now I’m not in the best shape, but not terrible and I’m at 210-215 with much broader shoulders and that “old man strength”. It would be the 25yo me needing to just avoid 50yo me until older me’s cardio hit its end. But if old me got ahold of younger me, it’s over.
Eagle_1776@reddit
at 45 I was at my physical peak.

Cartshy31@reddit
I’m 47 and could totally take 25 year old me in a fight. I’m perimenopausal, have been through some tough times, birthed two kids, teach yoga and lift heavy weights. 25 year old me was effortlessly skinny and had yet to learn resilience!
I love that I’m physically the strongest I’ve ever been.
malthar76@reddit
25 I was lean, unathletic, and pretty optimistic about future
50 I am finally lean again, have years of weekend muscle from carrying kids, lumber, bags of mulch. And there’s 25 years of general frustrations and simmering antagonism under the surface, not to mention that little shit needed his stuff sorted out long ago.
Comfortable-Pea-1312@reddit

tenjed35@reddit
Hell no. I was still a Marine at 25.
allbsallthetime@reddit
Using fighting as a measuring stick for physical fitness isn't a good test for me.
I've lived my life walking away from fights, 25 year old me and 50 year old me would both walk away so we'd both win.
But, to answer the question with a more fair test, in my 50s I was running sub 7 minute miles in 5k races, 25 year old me could never keep up.
So 50 year old me was definitely in better shape then 25 - late 40s me.
Lightening-bird@reddit
25 year old me carried 300 pounds of drywall on one hand up and down stairs all day. Bucked logs up into a truck all day. And was much angrier. I would not go near him. I was lucky to survive that guy.

50 year old me would beat the living shit out of 25 year old me.
Lazy-Objective-1630@reddit
I think so but only because even though I was younger and fitter back then, I just didn't have much fight in me.
I still don't, but now I got that pissed off fed up old man shit going on. I'd snap a lot easier these days. It's be a good old fashioned yung'un ass whuppin. Plus I exercise regularly now so I'm stronger now than I was back then.
Sandman4130@reddit

No
Martianmallo@reddit
Back then I was faster and had more stamina, but I was impatient and wanted to keep moving so strikes didn't land as hard, now, I'm much more patient, I know better where and how to strike. I'd watch that fight, I'd put my bets on older me.
Komaisnotsalty@reddit
Easily. 25 year old me was drunk, homeless, and desperate for someone help her out of the torment she was living in.
Wouldn't even be a fight: A warm mea, a safe place to sleep and a genuine hug woulda done her in easily.
Back then, I was just so utterly lost and I didn't understand why.
(don't worry - her torment didn't last much longer past 25)
BigEastCoast21@reddit
There was a Facebook clip a few years ago with 30-something MMA guys, asking a similar question.
Their conclusion was the angry dads in New Balance shoes, jean shorts, dad strength and decades of frustration and anger at life could easily whoop 20 year old gamer-vapers who don’t exercise and have never taken a punch.
Sorry I can’t find the clip. I think about it any time this question comes up and laugh.

Absolutely. 50 yo me is basically Batman compared to 25yo me.
Velvet_Samurai@reddit
Yeah, at 25 I guess I was still in the Army, but being forced to work out is one thing, since then I've been in the gym 3 to 4 times a week every single week. I have to think that my true strength is far greater now than it was then.
I know I used to have trouble with car repairs, lug nuts, caliper bolts, etc. I never have those issues any more, so that has to count for something right?
RobustDude79@reddit

At 25 I was just out of the Marine Corps. At currently 46, I've mostly been sitting around for work. While I look more physically fit now than I did then, I'm going to guess 25 year old me was vastly fitter, stamina-wise. And probably a lot faster than I am now. Current me isn't likely making it. My reckless youth and service did a number on all of my joints, too.

25 yr old me had an attitude, I was the littlest of a bunch of mean bastards. At 50 I was an E-8 army Ranger deployed doing what we do. At 67 I'm still breaking horses. There aren't many 25 yr olds that can stand up to me yet lol
Phog_of_War@reddit
Define 'fair'.
gratefulredsox@reddit
25 year old me was way quicker, stronger and angrier.
markeydusod@reddit
absolutely, 25 year old me was to high to know where his hands were in order to throw them in a pugilistic fashion
Left-Star2240@reddit
50 yr old me would twist an ankle before the fight started.
Chance-Point-5704@reddit
I feel like half of the 50yo injuries sustained in this fight would be self-inflicted accidents.
Winnebago01@reddit
My 56yo self is 215 with 17% bf my 25yo self was 185 with maybe 15%bf it would be close.
benjc74@reddit
I was in better shape back then but am just as strong now if less endurance and speed/agility. I also started coaching middle school wrestling at 27 years old and learned so many new moves and dirty tricks from other coaches and watching top wrestlers at tournaments. So if I could keep it quick, I’d destroy 25 year old me.
Cigarrauuul@reddit
For sure.
At 25 I was way out of shape. I did some boxing at Uni, but that was it.
Now I can bench 10 times 120 kg, run, bike and row on a regular basis and I lost weight since then.
Cold-Cheesecake85@reddit
Never. I had itty bitty babies to fight for then. Now it’s just me, maybe my husband. You win.
Fraerie@reddit
58 yo me is probably sneakier and less principled, but 25 yo me was considerably fitter and stronger - blame 15 years post cancer and an autoimmune diagnosis.
Liontamer67@reddit
I was in the Navy at 25 and my 58yo self would just start laughing. Then we’d both be giggling about silly stuff.
carelesly-deliberate@reddit
Ha! Not a chance.
25 year old me ran a 6k in under 30 minutes five times a week and did 30 pull ups a day.
50 year old me enjoys a walk a few times a week and hasn’t done a pull up in nearly 10 years.
TheGreatRao@reddit
20 year old me would beat any other version of me based upon pure endurance. 50 year old me would be a lot smarter but nowhere near as committed.
zoestar198728@reddit
Mentally i have what it takes. If mind over matter came into play, i would definitely beat 25 yr old me.
ChilledRoland@reddit
25 y/o me was active duty and could hold a 6g turn near indefinitely; 50 y/o me … can't.
poop_pebbles@reddit
Yes. 25 year old me was a little bitch
AffectionatePie8588@reddit
Fuck yes. I was younger, stronger, stupider and less skilled in fighting. I'm still strong and I know way more fight skills than I did then. At 25, all I knew was taekwondo. I'm 4 more skills in, and more street fights in. Come at me 25 yo me!!!

I KNOW TAI-CHI
Beetso@reddit
Oh yeah, well I know tae-bo!
UnicornFarts1111@reddit
Really, I know Tye Downard!
DrunknMunky1969@reddit
25 year old me would beat the shit out of 56 year old me. I am in pretty good shape — best shape I’ve been in since I was 25, but, damn, I could kick some ass back then.
VeryLowIQIndividual@reddit
I couldn’t even touch younger me. I’m so much slower than back then, less anger issues, less wind. I wasn’t afraid of anything in the best and worst ways. There wasn’t many things I could fight or out run at the least.
Younger we be as disappointed to hear that as I am to say it.
Father Time is undefeated.
esquirlo_espianacho@reddit
26 year old me was fucking nuts. I don’t think so. Though he would deserve an ass kicking for so many things.
small_spider_liker@reddit
25 year old me was terrified of fighting, and 50 year old me had learned to be kind, so there’d have been no reason for a fight. So I guess we’ll never know..
In any contest of speed, strength, or endurance, 25 year old me would win over 50 year old me, but everybody loses to 32 year old me.
Beetso@reddit
Not a chance.
Twitch-Weasel-51@reddit
No way. I was a scrapper back in the day.
hamish1963@reddit
Nope.
ConsciousTree163@reddit
I would kick my ass sooo bad. Much more life experience. Oh, and anger.
PizzaWhole9323@reddit
Okay no it would be like the end of Scott Pilgrim where me and the anti me go out and get pancakes.
West_Shirt5503@reddit
Perhaps, you can't sleep on that old man strength though
ohpickanametheysaid@reddit
The 25 year old version of me was stronger but was emotionally and mentally not prepared for 50 year old me. I’d woop my younger self’s ass on a Tuesday afternoon before he ever even knew what hit him.
ScaryLanguage8657@reddit
Even match. 50 year old me in great shape and running every day. Eating good food. Lots of endurance. 20 year old me doing karate, but ok shape and eating way too much pizza and beer. If 50 year old me can get this on the ground and wrestle I think old man could take young me on endurance.
BigWillyTB@reddit
No. Its not going to happen for 99 percent of people period but everyone is going to still say they would
StOnEy333@reddit
I was like 145 lbs at 25. Old me would manhandle young me.
dram3@reddit
As long as 25 year old me doesn’t seem me sneaking up on him.
Stigger32@reddit
Not a chance.
I’d stomp my ass in 10 seconds flat.
Extension-Rabbit3654@reddit
Fair fight no
25 year old me was a 6'4" 230 lb former D1 athlete, Im now closer to 250 and while stronger would get stomped on speed and stamina
DogLady1722@reddit
Exactly! I was in the police academy at 25. Now I’m 56, & been retired a few years. So, NOPE!!
Extension-Rabbit3654@reddit
Only way Im winning is old man tactics, which arent fair
vhalember@reddit
25 year-old me had been doing combat sports for 4 years at the time, was far more athletic than I am now, and was mad at the world.
I lose, but put up a fight with old man stubbornness. Now, 21 year-old me I could take no problem...
AbbreviationsTop4959@reddit
I'm not 50 yet, but 47 year old me could take 25 year old me. I'm smarter and saner, and my disabilities have stabilized. I was more disabled twenty years than I am currently.
ascii122@reddit
With a sword. My fencing was pretty shit at 25 .. now with a rapier i'm not so fast but I don't miss ;)
Previous_Wedding_577@reddit
Well I do weigh more
MarchCompetitive6235@reddit
I think I weighed about 120 pounds soaking wet so I'm gonna go with yes. 25-year-old me would have no chance against a 54 year old me.
I'm not saying I'm all buff or anything, just healthy middle age muscle mass. Also, my diet consists of more than just beer and Taco Bell nowadays.
HistoricalTowel1127@reddit
No contest. That smartass kid would have two choices. Lay there and bleed awhile or get back up and taste some real pain. What happens if you kill yourself?

NotAnotherThing@reddit
25 year old me was more fearful... but me now has chronic illnesses... so no.
SpaceWrangler777@reddit
25 year old me would realize that Im not the guy to fuck with. 50 year olds like myself tend to carry themselves as if they are not afraid of anything and for the most part, we aren’t. Not in a cocky way but in a fuck off kinda way if that makes sense
SamWhittemore75@reddit
"Old man strength " is underrated.
kenjinyc@reddit
25 year old me would beat the ever loving snot out of me. Might have a punchers chance.
SheriffBartholomew@reddit
At 25? Probably not. At 28? Absolutely definitely not. I was strong AF back then, and between 25 and 28 I did a ton of martial arts training. I didn't have arthritis back then either.
baycenters@reddit
It wouldn't be fun, but I would take down 25 year old me.
sidewaysbynine@reddit
Wouldn't even be close, I would have seriously hurt me. I was way faster, way way stronger and significantly meaner back then.
baycenters@reddit
At 25, I'd only surfed for seven years, and was a couple of years away from becoming a climber for an arborist company. My upper body strength then vs now is worlds apart. I also got in more fights and developed a completely different mindset. My 25 year old self lived in a small town and I've been in Los Angeles for longer than he's been alive. I would completely freak out my younger self.
sidewaysbynine@reddit
By 50 I had fallen off two roofs, and was doing less physical labor, still active but not doing the heavy work I was before.
baycenters@reddit
Oof. That'll do it. I shingled my shed roof recently and was totally sketched out when I first started - there is difference there, for sure. At 25, I was working as a millright on a job in Hazard Kentucky and an ironworker from Florida dared me to walk some handrail. We were on a catwalk 90 feet up and I stepped up and walked about ten feet, no hands and stepped back down. It was a spur of the moment thing. My partner I was working with at the time who was a bit older was white as a sheet. My palms are sweating as I type this.
Competitive-Jury3713@reddit
Yes.
EducationalOutcome26@reddit
oh hell no, 25 year old me was out of the navy, working as a sheriffs deputy, competing in taekwondo tournaments, and kicking doors for fun as part of a regional anti drug task force, my now 58 year old crippled ass wouldn't even be able to get in a stack anymore, someone would push me down since i cant move so good anymore. still compete IDPA, im still good with a pistol on draw and engagement but the transitions from target to target absolutely suck. never mind trying to kick someone or get enough momentum going to body a suspect up and take them down. no hell no...

For sure I could 25 year old me was working so much with barely any sleep I didn't have the stamina to walk across the street back then haha
Laylay_theGrail@reddit
I think I could haha
In real life, my husband (60s at the time) had an early 20s guy try to threaten him with a short steel baton.
Before the guy even blinked, the baton was suddenly in my husband’s hand and the young guy was the one being threatened 🤣
‘Son, if you’re going to threaten someone with this, you damn well better learn how to use it’
ErinRedWolf@reddit
I would have loved to see that.
Able-Sheepherder-154@reddit
50yo me would fight much dirtier than 25yo me and probably leave them in a bloody pile.
JoeMillersHat@reddit
Strength-wise, yes. If I connect, and I am still nimble, it's lights out. I have a much heavier punch now.
But when I was 25 my speed would definitely be a problem, especially because I have always been a heavy hitter.
I did combat sports.
I would love the chance to fight myself
This-Cartoonist9129@reddit
At my age I’m not going to get in a fair fight. If a fight starts, won’t be fair
ErinRedWolf@reddit
25-year-old me, while in better physical condition, was too “nice” and easily cowed. My current self has far fewer fucks to give. Though I still wouldn’t start a fight, I’m more likely to finish one.
bandit-6@reddit
Not even close . 1 of my 25 year old self would whip me haha . I was 3 years out of college football and still wrestling. Now I watch westerns and mildly hike .
kirradoodle@reddit
Hard to say. 25-year-old me was certainly in better physical shape. But 50-year-old me, well, you know what they say - "Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill."
SaltyBlackBroad@reddit
Old age me isn't afraid to die, add a couple decades of life experience to the mix...yea younger me would get beat down.
shitshowboxer@reddit
Not a chance.
Substantial-Quit-151@reddit
Yeah... I'm thinking along the same lines you are.
I have a bunch of joint injuries, I'm slower, blind in my left eye, and don't have the same stamina... But I'm stronger, have a much higher tolerance for pain, alot more experience, and young me would not be able to cope with the intensity and level of fight before it was all over.
So... I'm going to say old me would destroy young me.
SurpriseEcstatic1761@reddit
Probably, that kid was a bum
FrogsMakePoorSoup@reddit

MiguelMenendez@reddit
I’m at least five seconds a lap faster than the 25 year old me on a motorcycle at the track. I’d fuckin stomp him.
No_Pilot_9103@reddit
Easily. 180 pounds vs. 140.
Lost-Platypus8271@reddit
hell no. 50yo me has a torn shoulder and knee
Tall-Yard-407@reddit
I’d give myself a run for the money. I wasn’t nearly as strong as I was in my 30s and 40s and maybe even at 50. I did however get my 1st dan black belt in taekwondo at 25, so my 25yo self would hurt me, but my 25yo self didn’t have the pain tolerance I have now. But one kick to my knees now would probably put me in a wheelchair.
maddiep81@reddit
I had an accident and shoulder reconstruction ... spent most of my 25th year healing and building back. I was also clinically depressed.
Angry, paramenopausal, arthritic 50 year old me could absolutely destroy depressed 25 year old recovering me ... especially because 25 year old me wouldn't take 50 year old me seriously until had I gotten several solid punches in lol
Even a healthy 25 year old me would assume that 50 year old me was as soft and wimpy as her mother. 25 year old me would be wrong.
Northman_76@reddit
25 year old me would get stomped.
lancerreddit@reddit
It would be like Vader vs Luke in Empire. Experience over impatience
Necessary_Fig_2265@reddit
Absolutely. “Old age and treachery will always beat youth and exuberance.” As someone else said, younger me wouldn’t see it coming.
I owe him an ass kicking or two anyways for some of the decisions he made.
Unclebaldur@reddit

Nope
MerkinSuit@reddit
Unsure, was activly practicing martial arts at 25, and was heavier and stronger.
But I'm currently 50, and just as agile as 25, bit weaker, am way way more menacing and mean now, when nessesary.
Both are getting hurt, so no one wins IMO, 50yoMe needs to fake the 25yoMe out to succeed.
Both will be attempting to break the others arm or leg, thats how I was trained, and how Hapkido was taught to me.
To end a fight when it's started.
I dont wanna fight anybody really, not my jam.
Pure_Floyd_Smernitch@reddit
No way, that bitch was crazy
MiseryEngine@reddit
I used to do an obsessive amount of Martial Arts. Now I'm older, fatter and my knees are gone. My only advantage is 25year old me didn't do a lot of grappling.

At 50 I quit drinking alcohol. I ran my first marathon at 52. At 50 I also changed my diet to Keto, Low Carb High Fat, and carnivore. I have a lot more endurance, I notice, than when I was 25. So I don't know. I was never overweight at any point during my life. I am 60 now with CLL leukemia. Diagnosed last year. My 50 year old self was more into barefoot running and hiking and at 25 I hiked a lot but nothing compared to what I was doing at 50 till 60. At the job last year I was walking 15,000-24,000 steps a day. Also, I was raised in car centric USA. I moved to Germany in 2001 and pretty much walk everywhere, to the grocery store and doctor appointments. My legs are like iron.

Generally_Tso_Tso@reddit
I think a lot of 50 year olds have misplaced confidence. Old man legs don't cooperate with the stick and move, sprawling, and bobbing and weaving. It's not a hard and fast rule, but about 8 in 10 times the younger and quicker version is going to win.

Definitely maybe. 25 y/o me was pregnant with two toddlers, so 50 y/o me could knock her off balance and use the cane like a snake hook. Then again, that mad mama bear energy is fierce and packs more oomph. It would no doubt be entertaining to watch!

25 year old me had no idea how to fight, no military training, none of the dirty tricks I've picked up from 15+ years of putting up with Sailors, Soldiers and Marine idiocy, and none of the old man strength I've accumulated from the aforementioned experiences along the way.
With all that said though, if that little shit managed to clip either of my knees or hit my lower back I'd prolly have to shoot his ass.

Fixed. Thank you.
Jasong222@reddit
Oh I thought it was some branch is never heard of, lol
Infinite-Lychee-182@reddit
Unfortunately, I'm too old for the Space Force. If they decided to issue Security Forces red shirts, I'd beg to get in, lol. Of course I'm all brave to wear a red shirt knowing unless we find a Stargate there's no chance of an away mission.
wriddell@reddit
Hell no, 25 yo me was changing 200 lbs truck tires, 50 me was working with my brain not my back
Practical-Arugula-80@reddit
I wouldn't be able to run away from my 25-year-old self at this point much less fight him. 🫣😆
Perfect-Cycle@reddit
Well, 50 yr old me would know all 25 yr old me’s moves, so might be a stalemate.
smokywater50@reddit
No, 25 year old me would destroy 50 year old me, though I’m wiser, physically 50 year old me isn’t even a 10th of what 25 year old me was
TheOtherMaelja@reddit
25 year old me was a Sargent in the Marine Corps. 51 year old me is in bed by 9p
DaoFerret@reddit
See, 25 year old me could barely do a push up and was overweight.
50 year old me biked to work each day all year, had 30+ years in one martial art and spent a good 15+ years in second.
25 year old me had youth.
50 year old me had everything else.
Now … 60 year old me will depend how his back is that morning…
Junior_Statement_262@reddit
100% I've been consistently weight training for the last 2 decades and would absolutely be able to take my 25 year old self down.
GratefulDad73@reddit
I get what you’re saying but I’ve always been that way with a different mentality. It’s subtle but crucial. My opponent will likely be trying to simply whip my ass yet at the same time my thoughts are much much darker. But to answer your question- the wheels fell off this wagon when I turned 50 so I wouldn’t be much of a threat to 25 year old me.
DawnGW@reddit
You know… I think I could kick my 25 yr old self’s ass. Pretty sure anyway.
Big_Judge_438@reddit
25 yo me would f me up.
ChadlyWax@reddit
Hahahahaha practical anger. Yeah, I have a lot built up myself. My 25 year old self would piss himself.
somerandomedude78@reddit
At 25 I was in the military and trained MMA. I was in the best shape of my life. I’m 48 now and when I sneeze I sometimes think I shat myself. I haven’t trained in years, I’m too slow and no longer the spring chicken I once was. 25 wouldn’t walk away clean though 🤣
ponchoacademy@reddit
I wasn't violent then, and I'm not violent now. So I can't even imagine...
The advantage 25yo me has physically is I was fresh out the military and in really good shape, so I could run like the wind... In the face of danger, young me could run away faster than old me can. 🏃🏾♀️💨
But I'm not a danger to anyone at any age so yeah, the whole fight thing isn't a scenario I can even imagine. At most there would be an awkward "hey" and then that's kind of it.
ptindaho@reddit
I think 46 year old me could take 18 year old me, but I think 25 year old me would kick 46 year old me's ass due to endurance if the fight goes long, but the rage in 46 year-old me could definitely catch sleep deprived/depressed/just welcomed his first kid into this world me if he catches him early.
Locked_in_a_room@reddit
Not a chance.
Distinct_Disk_1610@reddit
I was so skinny I was almost frail when I was 25. I barely ate anything. I barely slept. I was VERY fit (6 pack abs) but so skinny. I could beat down 25 year old me with one kick.
ackack9999@reddit
Not with this back!
sp0rkah0lic@reddit
Lol. Well I'm 48 but I think so. 25 yo me did not exercise, was about 40 lbs heavier, smoked a pack a day, ate like shit, and generally abused chemicals.
48 yo me can do a 6 mile out and back mountain hike and still have energy to burn. (After I change into flip flops lol.)
CollectsTooMuch@reddit
25 year old me was 6’3”, 265 and could bench press 450 pounds. I was a gorilla. I’m a strong old guy now, but I could do hard labor all day at 25 and was what my buddy called “country strong”. I’d be screwed to fight 25 year old me.
BiggyGKeeg1@reddit
Old age and treachery beats youth and skill every time (meaning I’d for sure cheat…but all’s fair right?)

rammozammo@reddit
50 year olde me could give a flying F about taking 25 yr old me.
ihatepickingnames_@reddit
My 61 yr old me could most definitely. I was a wimpy youngster (strong but knew nothing about fighting) but I've been doing boxing workouts on and off for 15 years now and have quite a strong left hook.
Bartlaus@reddit
At 25 I had not yet started lifting (which I still do) and my martial arts background was a lot narrower. The only advantages younger me would have are a bit better flexibility and running speed/endurance.
helpitgrow@reddit
Yes! I’m pretty sure 25 y/o me would have ran for the hills at the first sign of a fight.
TheArtfulDuffer@reddit
Definitely. 25 yr old me doesn’t have the experience and would probably be a little drunk. Also wouldn’t fight half as dirty.
Worth-Silver-484@reddit
Dirty? Fighting hurts whether you win or lose and at 52 i take twice as long to heal. I am doing something to end this quickly.
Demostecles@reddit
In brute strength power hitting?
No.
In a fight for life or death?
Yes.
25 yo me doesn’t have a chance.
Additional_Name_867@reddit
I haven’t been able to best my sons so I’m guessing current me wouldn’t stand a chance against 25 yo me.
beeredditor@reddit
I couldn’t win in a fistfight trading blows, but if wrapped my adversary up and used my weight against them, then I may be able to subdue them.
OldSkooler1212@reddit
I could kick 25 year old me’s ass but 29 year old me (when I was in the best shape of my life) could destroy current me.
bh4th@reddit
I’m on the young end of this sub at 44… but yes. In a hypothetical fight with myself from 20 years ago, I would kick his ass. I’m in better shape now and have much more experience punching things.
lexi_prop@reddit
Good for you bro
wurkhoarse@reddit
I used to think so but my luck I'll square up against a MMA trained who will KTFO of me and it will be recorded and il get famous on reddit.
omfgwhatever@reddit
No. All she'd have to do is push me over. It would take me a good 10 minutes to get off the ground, and she would be gone.
OlderAndTired@reddit
I tell you what - she may have been physically stronger, but I’ve got more weight to throw around now than I did then!!!
karma_the_sequel@reddit
And better insurance!
agatehounder@reddit
No, at 25 I was playing rugby and fit AF. The hip replacement won't help
karebear66@reddit
No, but 71 year old me could definitely beat 50 yo me.
Breklin76@reddit
There is no “fair” in fighting.
AaronBurrIsInnocent@reddit
Why would 50 year old me fight fairly against a young punk? That would be crazy.
ComicsEtAl@reddit
Yes.
Renegadegold@reddit
I think so. With my career I built a high endurance and probably could out sweat me.
Eukairos@reddit
I think we'd just be happy to see each other.
yodellingllama_@reddit
I don't think "wicked old man strength" kicks in until 62. So no.
The_Master_Sourceror@reddit
I’ve got about 40 pounds on my younger self but he was much faster and had better balance so if I can get it into grappling and on the ground maybe but I’m saying probably not.
chatterwrack@reddit
My 25 year-old self was a beast. I’m a squish now
chamrockblarneystone@reddit
25 year old me worked as a bouncer. 50 year old me was a high school English teacher. I would not fuck around with 25 year old me. Shit, I was only three years out of the Marine Corps at 25. Plenty of untapped rage.
I’m a snuggle bunny now 🐰
nellis003@reddit
25 year-old me worked in a factory and hauled 100 lb bags of material all day long. 50 year-old me sits at a desk all day and hurts his back when he sneezes too hard. I’m also a LOT more mellow these days. 25 year old me would stomp present-day me pretty easily.
Conscious-Big707@reddit
Lol. 50 year old me ain't looking for a fight.
Active_Unit_9498@reddit
I am not the man I once was but I know how to use what’s left. The old man takes it.

Younger me respected my elders and would take the whipping. /s
Alternative-Hurry287@reddit
Yes. But it wouldn’t be fair, because this 50-something learned to fighting dirty.
DoubleDrummer@reddit
25 year old me was faster, stronger, fitter.
50+ me is smarter, far more cunning, knows how to fight, and has a situationally adaptive moral compass.
kinggeorgec@reddit
Have you guys seen Barn Dog?
bdouble76@reddit
Yes. But it would have to be quick. 50 year old me is in terrible shape. Most of my 30s and a good amount of my 40s would run through both.
OldDude1960@reddit
Not by physical strength, but by cleverness, experience, and deviousness. Plus, I have decades of repressed anger, and no more f*cks to give.
cd6020@reddit
Fat now and was in great shape back them. However, this is what would give older me the edge.
skarekroh@reddit
Define “fair”
kynwatch71@reddit
Nope not a chance. The 25yo me was 245lbs with a 32 inch waist and in the army at the time. Well 50yo me is starting to replace joints and though the weight is about the same... The distribution is way different!
Basic_Assumption5311@reddit
Thanks you for your service sir. But I would dog walk 25yo me, that guy was a sissy and thought he was tough 🤣
kynwatch71@reddit
I could fight then so it comes down to strength and fitness. I always tried to avoided fights. But if you pushed it hard enough you'd find out or start smacking your girlfriend/wife around. I did get my ass kicked by this little dude at like 22. He was short and wiry. Beat the crap out of me. He's still a close friend lol.
The dad body with titanium knees isn't optimal! Add in the reconstructed ankle and shoulder lol. Yeah I'm getting my ass kicked by my 25yo self.
RW_McRae@reddit
I'm 50 and I sat in my office chair for too long and then had to bring a heavy box upstairs, and I had to give my back a rest tonight
raincntry@reddit
Absolutely not. 25 yr old me spent 8-12 hrs a day hiking in the back woods and lifting very heavy objects. I had shoulders of granite and literally felt no pain. Now, if I get up off the couch wrong my back hurts.
obirascor@reddit
In my 20s I was an ath-a-lete with all three syllables.

Yeah no. 25 year old me is kicking my arse all damn day while sipping hot black coffee and not spilling a drop
I'm not even so much out of shape but I was in that much better shape back then.
BlackBasementCats@reddit
Maybe, but I know 50 year old me could definitely take 26 year old me because that bitch had a paralyzed arm and weak leg from a stroke.

Nopedontcarez@reddit
25 year old me? maybe not, I was in decent shape and working out daily. 29 year old me? I'd kick his ass. I'm lighter and stronger. Marriage did things to me.
micropterus_dolomieu@reddit
Not a chance. That 25 year old was in fantastic shape.
Eziekiel23_20@reddit
Negative. I was a beast at 25. Still big but body composition changed a bit and wear and tear have taken their toll.
Forward_Base_615@reddit
No way. 25 yo me was fresh off a DI soccer team and still training and playing. 50 yr old me does not have working knees.
Sparklykazoo@reddit
50 year old might’ve had a shot. 63 year old me, not so much.

I doubt it. I gym so I'm still close to the same strength, decent cardio, but yeah flexibility and quickness aren't the same. It would be a fight but probably losing one.
devilhead668@reddit
25 year old me is not in my weight class.
sil0@reddit
Really depends on the 25 year old, you know?
sixstringsikness@reddit
I'm 45 but may outlast 25 yr old me as I drink a lot less and no longer smoke. Probably fairly even.
Kestrel_Iolani@reddit
Neal Stephenson has a great bit about that in his book Snow Crash:
*Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world. If I moved to a martial-arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad.
Hiro used to feel that way, too, but then he ran into Raven. In a way, this is liberating. He no longer has to worry about trying to be the baddes MF in the world. The position is taken.*
Ravenwolven1@reddit
No. Not in a million years.
turrboenvy@reddit
47, but... probably not. That was around when I was my fattest, but I was "fat-strong." Now I am a little less fat, but a lot less strong.
McNutWaffle@reddit
No fn way. 165 lb., pull ups and push ups for days, and 20 minute 5Ks at 25 y/o. I’m still strong but I’m likely to pull my back just getting into a ring.
kittydeviance@reddit
nope 25 yr old me would easily kick my butt in like a year and 4 months...unfortunately it not that hard tbh
iloveairportsushi@reddit
Ohhhh nooooo. 25 year old me was feral. 50 year old me is soft and fluffy.
Environmental_Ride_8@reddit
25 year old me had working knees. 50 yr old me has tendonitus in my elbow that takes years to heal.
VagabondTexan@reddit
Who knows, because by the age of 10 my dad made sure I was clear on the concept that there is no such thing as a fair fight. Even with rules, someone ALWAYS has the advantage.
Wolffraven@reddit
With the martial arts I know, speed is a major component of the styles. Unfortunately I have had injuries that slowed me down so no, my 50 year old self would not stand a chance with the way faster 25 year old version.
standingdesk@reddit
25 year old me was very lazy, but did have some remarkable physical capabilities. I could scare him, but I would lose
cenosillicaphobiac@reddit
50 year old me, yeah probably. 58 year old me, which happens later this year, naw. And not even any serious health issues, I'm just fucking tired man, I'll just let 25 year old be a dumbass, he'll figure it out.
Nutella_Zamboni@reddit
Absolutely Not. Im currently 50 and relatively strong but definitely not as agile. 25 yo me was strong, fast, and hardheaded.
CaptainGlanton27@reddit
Lol, my 25 year old self would whoop my 50 year old self's ass, and my 57 year old current self would laugh watching it happen, then pick my 50 year old self up and offer him a cold beer.
"Nice try pops. You do remember how fit you were back then, right? All the cardio, the weight training, the men's league sports? What the fuck were you thinking, taking on that hot-headed son of a bitch? We're lucky his friends didn't jump in, maybe beat my ass too, the goddamned hoodlums. Now let's go listen to some bluegrass music before hitting the sack at 8:30. We've got to be up at 5:30 am, and there will be 1-2 middle of the night piss breaks, so let's get a move on. I've got to wash my car before the sun gets too high, and then go to the hardware store for a few items - one of the sprinkler heads is off. Where the fuck did I leave my glasses?"
Self-Comprehensive@reddit
25 year old me had just left the Marine Corps and was in peak physical shape and freshly trained. 50 year old me has forgotten half of what I learned. It would probably be a good fight though I'm still pretty tough.
TapPsychological2043@reddit
No way I was crazy back then younger me would kill me before I realised what was going on
zydexx@reddit
Well I was into karate back then and I bit of a hot head, now 50 got that karate experience plus boxing and some Bjj so 50yo cool calm me would kick his ass. lol.

No. I was leaner and meaner at 25. But, I'd probably drag it out a bit. Sounds like fun.
murderbook@reddit
35 year old me would kick both of our asses.
bloviatingbloviator@reddit
Same here. I started martial arts at 22, so 25 me was in good shape and thought he knew what he was doing. 35 me was in good shape and definitely knew what he was doing.

25 yr old me was pregnant, not a fair fight.
nova8273@reddit

Melodic-Classic391@reddit
I think the bottled up anger and rage would result in one of two possible outcomes
1. I thrash 25 year old me in ten seconds
2. I stroke out or have a heart attack
Abject-Afternoon-388@reddit
I'm 55 and I would destroy my 25 year old self. I have much better technique now more experience that I stay calm in clutch moments
ugh0017@reddit
You’re not giving yourself enough credit. The 25 year old version of you would mop the floor with 55 year old version you.
Abject-Afternoon-388@reddit
Do you know me? Cuz if you don't you have no way of knowing the correct answer to this question and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind it would be over quickly my current self would trounce my 25-year-old self

SneakyElevatorFarts@reddit

No way in hell, I move slower, hurt more as a base line and barely have a sense of balance. Plus 25 yr old me had a lot, a lot of anger issues I tried to solve at the bar
Bobby-Dazzling@reddit
50yo me would agree with current 58yo me that I totally could!!!! But looking at 25yo me in photos? Yeah, he could demolish both 50 and 58yo me at the same time.

No. I haven’t fought in decades. 25 year old me was still in practice and was in infinitely better shape. It would not be a fair fight. He’d beat me to a pulp. Lol
cunninglinguist@reddit
Funny but I’m now a 240lb who has powerlifted for 15 years. I was 175lb when I was 25. I would toss young me like a sack of dog food. Young me could out run me and that’s about it.
ConsuelaApplebee@reddit
Not with all the unfixed broken bones I accumulated…
deadbeef4@reddit
Yes, but that says more about what kind of shape I was in at 25.

hmmm.. I think I could. I am MUCH heavier (cry) but also much stronger. I am slightly slower but still very quick. I am MUCH more level headed and calm. Unflappable even. However, my cardio is not as good (but I am still fit) and I am not as flexible. Old me is a better swimmer, but young me was a better runner. 51 year old me and 25 year old me would both tell you there’s so such thing as a fair fight. That being said, and knowing myself, it’s 50/50 on who would win. The last fight I was in was three years ago when a dusthead came through the window of my basement apartment. He picked the wrong window.

Nope. I was doing 8-10 hours of cardio a few times a year during a concert while moshing. Went to almost every Ozzfest for 15 years! I was a badass, one of the only chicks.

I was surfing fit at 25, now I am gym fit and probably stronger. We would both get the red mist so it would not end well either way. 50yo me could probably choke 25yo me out though. He would just be throwing hands.
19BabyDoll75@reddit
I would definitely fuck up 25 year old me. Sorry younger me. But I’ve been sand blasting for the past 20 plus years and pack on a bit more muscle then the cook I was at 25. And angered old me still loves facey punch.
Dirty_Wookie1971@reddit
25 year old me would easily
Overpower 54 year old
Me. Best me to a pulp, 54 yr old me would have to wait it out for the right
Opportunity and seize the moment for any sort
Of a chance.
j-6@reddit
50 me would get his ass kicked. I cracked a bum trying to steal shit out of my truck at the gas station. I left it unlocked for less than 5 minutes in a nice part of town. It wasn’t even a good shot and I hurt for over 2 weeks. Oddly, my ankles have given me problems since that day. I was 47 at the time. He ran away once he saw the old guy meant business. The adrenaline rush was crazy, and definitely not healthy.
I’m cool to the homeless folks that ask for money if I have cash on hand, but seeing someone trying to rob me made me see red. I was only a few years out of boxing at 25 - extremely amateur- but that kid would rip me apart.
notoriousbpg@reddit
I remember 23yo me getting a street fight ass whooping trying to be chivalrous and protecting a girl during a brawl.
50yo me is 70lb heavier and now knows to aim for the back of the skull if i ever have to punch a face. I can't outrun so I would need to make it count.
IBroughtWine@reddit
Without a doubt.
CaptainObvious1916@reddit
Hah when it comes to anger I went the other way. I had major rage when young. Today I’m pretty cool. It would take a direct attack on my family to ignite something.
potsofjam@reddit
Not a chance. 25 year old me would hit me in the throat before I knew what was happening.
tango421@reddit
Absolutely not. No diabetes, no high blood pressure, less injuries, he had much better stamina, he worked out more intensely and practiced martial arts regularly. He was lighter and much more fit and could lift the heaviest I ever could.
Whether it's stamina, technique, awareness, or agility he'd tear me apart. Note, I'm about the healthiest I've been in the last 8 years or so but not versus 25 year old me.
FanDorph@reddit
Nope, didn't have back injury at 25 and worked construction. I was in much better shape.
MangledBarkeep@reddit
He'd have 25 more years of Eskrima so imma go with indubitably
worrymon@reddit
Ain't neither one of us going to get into a fight.
TechnicalOperation57@reddit
Easily. I'm in way better shape at 52 than I was at 25.
Winnapig@reddit
Physically no, mentally yes. 25 year old me would be trying to keep the peace.
benv@reddit
I have 40 lbs on him and some of it may be muscle.
Valuable_Corgi_3685@reddit
Fuck no…. At 25 I was 2 years past my competitive fighting.
Lightning fast and cardio for days!!!
I’m still in really good shape for 50, but nothing like that.
JuliusSeizuresalad@reddit
50 year old me had 60 pounds on 25 year old me
lovebeinganasshole@reddit
lol 25 yo me was a massively angry woman and always ready for a fight. Menopause muted that.
SamCanyon@reddit
I’d kick my 25yo self’s ass.
cranky-donkey@reddit
Probably not, but sure as hell would know what to say to make 25 yo me crumple up and cry.
Tasia528@reddit
I would 100% kick my own ass. Younger me was a frightened little deer.
slipnipper@reddit
“Fair fight?” Not sure what that actually means. There are a ton of old, wiry farmers and ranchers that I would absolutely never have fucked with in my youth without taking an absolute beating.
DameEmma@reddit
50 year old me is so much meaner and stronger. But slower.
30sumthingSanta@reddit
50yo me would get quite a beating from 25yo me.
50yo me has a trick knee, and zero endurance, and breathing issues. 25yo me could squat 50yo me, and run a marathon. 50yo me probably isn’t smarter or angrier either.
Lopsided_Panic_1148@reddit
Nope. Absolutely not.
cooper3675@reddit
Hell no
BombadilGuy@reddit
I have the ennui now
TheOGcoolguy@reddit
I would kick my butt. I don’t know who would win, but one of us would. We
Oldebookworm@reddit
I’m much meaner at 62 than I was at 25. And I fight dirty now 😄
Vegetable_Seller@reddit
My impression after sparring with my teenage son, is that the reflexes and speed of younger people is exceptionally different from 50-year-olds. So yeah maybe you have old man’s strength but you’re going to be slower.
Relative-Accountant2@reddit
Verbally, absolutely. By the time I get through with them, the would WISH for a beat down.
Super_Ele@reddit
🤣
wasabi9605@reddit
I mean, I think we would be evenly matched, but then I'd need a nap.
Sand_Aggravating@reddit
Not a shot in hell!!! I was never in the greatest shape but from 25 to 35 was my best. 25 yr old me would send me to a grey area of memory!!!
RoosterEmotional5009@reddit
No. 25Y old me was full of piss and vinegar. 50Y old me can’t tell if I still need piss or am fine. Still fit but not 25Y.O fit.
JD_tubeguy@reddit
I could yeah I was scrawny AF at 25 still slim but craftier too now.
HalfCaffontheRocks@reddit
No way y’all are delusional
DevilsLettuceTaster@reddit
No. I was a lean mean fighting machine
Now everything creaks and cracks just scratching my arse.
epicenter69@reddit
I think my now 51 yr old self would kick my 25 yr old self’s ass. I eventually got fed up with bullshit and act on impulse.
Objective_Hall9316@reddit
45 year old me would whoop that kids ass. He was putting effort into getting skinny and chasing the wrong women. He’d outrun me for sure though. Can’t do that anymore.
Slight-Selection4298@reddit
25 year old me was on a slew of opiates.... So if I could make it past the initial burst, think I could take him. He would of went 150% for the first 2 minutes and petered out I think.
I have more patience now, and wiser with the years :)
Impressive-Safety191@reddit
I could sit on her, all would be over except the tears.
Consistent-Change386@reddit
At 25 I was finishing up army training and in the best shape of my life- me at 50…… let’s not talk about it. I do have a lot more insurance at 50 though….
Substantial_Pen3328@reddit
I'm stronger, more fit and angrier at 49 (40 in a few weeks) than I was at 24. I'd beat the hell out of soft-ass me.
ugh0017@reddit
25 year old version of me would kick the piss out of me then ask then ask me about our life choices
RezRising@reddit
I'd beat the crap outta him and tell him to stay the fuck away from Jeannie.

60 year old me would fight dirty then retreat and shout if needed.
just_chillin_like_@reddit
totally! The practical anger. for sure.
Nervous-Share-5873@reddit
So do I get scars as I beat my ass back then?
danielcs78@reddit
Punch your younger self in the face and your present day self’s nose immediately begins to whistle when you breathe through it.
Drachenfuer@reddit
Absolutly not. I was built at 25. Now….not so much.
Happy-Philosopher188@reddit
Yes. I was a wuss. At 50 I was 40 pounds heavier and boxing.
MarginalTalent@reddit
Oh god no.
At 25 I was fit, strong, angry, and training.
Now I’m fat, content, and haven’t trained in 20 years.
I’d gas really fast and hopefully my younger self would have some mercy and choke me out. But I was an asshole so I’d probably get pummeled.
athendofthedock@reddit
I’m 50 in August. Not a chance my now self takes my younger self. I look a dip in the sidewalk now and get nervous.
shooflypie@reddit
Yep, easily.
CoachOpen1977@reddit
For sure! 25 year old me was a beer guzzling, trash eating, chronic video gaming, 4 hour a night sleeping, squishmallow!
Now I’m active, rarely drink, average 7 hours sleep a night, and trash-eat and video game in moderation.
AdGold205@reddit
Nope. 1) I was in better shape and 2) I was angrier.
pacinor@reddit
Same
gabrielroth@reddit
I don’t know who would win but it would be the least impressive fight in history
phxor@reddit
made me lol
NoGuarantee3961@reddit
No chance. I was still in great shape at 25, training and instructor in kickboxing and a paid HS wrestling coach. My only professional fight beas at 30.
At 50 I am overweight and slow.
conspicuousmatchcut@reddit
25 year old me had way worse asthma, it wouldn’t even be fair
Bumberti@reddit
50 year old me knows that 25 year old me is all bark and no bite. 25 year old me has no idea what 50 year old me is capable of.
hardlyexist@reddit
Yes, experience and a never lose mindset can definitely put an asshole down.
Wild_Read9062@reddit
I could take me… to a nice museum or garden.
We’d walk around, talking about life, the world, expectations, what it owes us and what we owe it. We’d talk about fate, focus, and how there’s always something to smile about. Maybe we’d tell each other jokes. We’d be fast friends.
At the end of the day, I think we’d both feel wiser and happier for the experience.
cyclingbubba@reddit
This is the first and best answer ! Thank you for your wisdom and clarity ! 😀
Emotional-Pound4481@reddit
Fuck no. I was dangerous at 25 and now I'm just old
IAmEchosDad@reddit
Yes. I was hot headed at 25. Now at 53, I'm calm enough to not let emotions get in the way.
Bymmijprime@reddit
No, but 50 year old me would not fight fair lol
Coggonite@reddit
"If you find yourself in a fair fight, you have already fucked up"
Both versions of myself knew this. 50 y/o me had more time to internalize it and would take the cheap shot first.
Bomber_Haskell@reddit
Hell no. 25 year old me would have to take it easy on 50 year old me.
LavenderSpaceRain@reddit
Absolutely. At 25 I was still trying to be a nice person. Now I'm menopausal and have The Rage (TM). I'd beat the shit out of myself then go eat a doughnut.
KimmyGurl420@reddit
It would be a toss up.
Hormones sapped my upper body strength, tho honestly I didn't really have that much to begin with. A lot more than now, tho. I also have a pretty severe shoulder injury.
But older me has a ton more pain tolerance and way less to lose. I figure those might give me the edge
PowerfulBit5575@reddit
I started boxing at 30 and have kept it up, so there's really no question.
stonnerdog35@reddit
At 25 I spent the biggest part of the year recovering from a major motorcycle wreck. Even if I was 60 I'd still be able to take 25 year old me.
HereToCalmYouDown@reddit
50 yr old me would win. But 50 yr old me probably couldn't take 40 yr old me.
theclonefactory@reddit
This is a great question. I’m having a good time imagining the scenarios.
Pendragenet@reddit
This reminds me of a comment in an RV forum by some 70+ year old. The topic was about an incident where a group of 6-8 twenty-something guys were harrassing and threatening a twenty-something couple and would you handle it.
This poster declared that he would gather up all his knives and axes and stand in his campsite sharpening the blades.
And he truly thought that would intimidate a group of twenty-somethings into leaving him alone.
When I suggested that they would simply take all those nicely sharpened blades and beat the old geezer senseless (in that order), he and the other old geezers verbally attacked me with every thing they had. They so wanted to believe that they could take on a bunch of younger men like a Clint Eastwood movie and just refused to acknowledge that Clint's adversaries were throwing the fight every time...
Govinda74@reddit
It wouldn't even be close! 25 year old me still kind of cared what other people thought or felt. 50 year old me ran out of fucks to give. It would be a never ending hail of punches while I yelled "why are you hitting yourself?! Why are you hitting yourself!?" over and over...
TheJokersWild53@reddit
Yes, the 25 year old me knew how to grapple, 50 year old me knows how to punch
dlc0027@reddit
Yes. Not 50 yet, but close. I was in better shape at 25 and could run much faster and further but I’m much, much stronger now.
Fit_Holiday_2391@reddit
50 year old me definitely has learned to not fight fair
and 25 year old me was an idealistic naive individual so sort of a moot point …
halfbakedelf@reddit
I mean....the menorage is real. I'm in worse shape, but meaner
whipla5her@reddit
Yeah, I was skinny as hell.
RogersMrB@reddit
No. At that point was doing several martial arts, was about to start getting regional recognition and was in great shape.
I'm 48, out of shape, and have overly high blood pressure. I may be able to bring more violence, but not the sustained aggression I once had.
Oddly_Effective@reddit
Absolutely TF not.
RiffRandellsBF@reddit
Yeah, I would cheat like a motherfucker. Would totally mess up his belief that fights should be "fair" and "honorable".
Eleutherlothario@reddit
50 year old me wouldn't fight fair 😀
Chad_Hooper@reddit
Neither of them would ever fight fair, says 60 year old me.
But all three of us prefer to avoid fighting when possible. It’s usually not worth the trouble.
Nightgasm@reddit
Actually yes. 25 yr old me was soft as fuck. 50 yr old me wasn't a super tough guy or anything but understood far more about fighting.
Open_Minded_Anonym@reddit
Nah. I’ve always been pretty fit and capable, but at 54 my senses, reaction time, and balance aren’t what they once were.
overeducatedhick@reddit
Nope. And 25 year old me wasn't much to reckon with either.
MisterNighttime@reddit
I keep trying to get to grips with the question, but the way it plays out every time in my head is the two versions of me looking at each other in confusion.
“Wait, why are we doing this again?“
“Beats me.”
“Why don’t we just have some coffee, you want some coffee?“
50-year-old me made way better coffee than 25-year-old me, if that counts.
trafficconecolorcar@reddit
I would watch this short story.
eatmoremeat101@reddit
More like win a battle of wits
CaterpillarHot4132@reddit
Yes. 50-year-old me is a lot more ruthless and pragmatic.
TenFourMoonKitty@reddit
Probably - I’d pull a ‘Rope A Dope’ like Ali vs Foreman and let the younger version of me tire himself out.
I was much more impatient and unable to properly focus my negative emotions back then.
That or we’d both punch each other in the face, say ‘f-ck this nonsense,’ and - I don’t know, I turned 25 in 1998 - go see ‘Armageddon’ and drink some Zima.
bigring@reddit
We’d both manage to lose.
N0stradama5@reddit
25 year old me would’ve kicked my butt. Ngl I was kind of a badass.
NacreousFink@reddit
No. 25 year old me was jacked, but would also be wondering why I was picking a fight and try to defuse the situation.
ToneSenior7156@reddit
I want to say yes because I’m stronger and healthier than I was at 25 but…I think no because 50 year old me is in that phase where I get hurt doing nothing. So if anyone actually TRIED to hurt me it would probably be catastrophic.
inode71@reddit
Nope, I was skinny but strong and fit back then.
Alansmithee69@reddit
I’ve seen some shit that’s hardened me since 25 so absolutely yes.
Zh25_5680@reddit
It would be evenly matched … 50ish year old me is in far better shape than 30-40’s me and pretty close or better than mid 20’s me. Grad school and beyond and building up a business/kids took a toll for a while
let_it_grow23@reddit
I really like the phrase ‘practical anger’. Because yes.
kynaturists@reddit
Hell yeah! Hemingway once said, “Age and treachery will beat youth and enthusiasm, every time!” Or, it might’ve been my old Master Chief, I can’t remember.
Sergeant_Crunch@reddit
No. 25 year old me had been in the Army for 7 years and was in what was quite possibly the best shape of my life. 50 year old me is struggling just to be "not fat" and doesn't have the same reflexes. On the other hand, 50 year old me isn't above using pocket sand.
solon_isonomia@reddit
Sh-sh-SHAH!
Advanced-Lemon3354@reddit
I think so. I'm in the best shape of my life at 54.
keirmeister@reddit

ancient-military@reddit
Yeah, I think it would be a fair fight for me. I’m stronger but slower. Can I get a hold of him before he kicks out my knee? That’s the question.
OldERnurse1964@reddit
There’s no such thing as a “fair” fight. If there’s rules then it’s a sporting event
Spear_Ritual@reddit
Yep. I was a skinny metal band guy. I’m older, stronger, in better shape… 25 year old me thought he knew everything. But his knees don’t hurt, so I dunno.

Probably not. I look and feel about the same, but I know I've lost some muscle and balance.
Old_Goat_Ninja@reddit
Oh, most definitely. 25 year old me was no where near the size and strength of 50 year old me. 50 year old me would easily kick 25 year old me’s ass and then run circles around the beaten body.

Yes b/c I’ve been beating the shit of 25y/o me since he could remember.

Hmmm. 25-year-old me lived on Marlboro Lights, beer, and soup, so she was scrappier. But 50-year-old me has bouts of perimenopausal rage. So she’s crazier. Honestly, it’s a wash.

If I had to predict my state at 50 I’d say at least as strong as I am now if not more so (I’m working out more and pretty much forced to eat more mindfully)
Angry_GorillaBS@reddit
25 years of experience and in better shape? Absolutely.

25yo me was relatively fresh out of military jail, had been in a fair amount of fights, knew my strengths & weaknesses, and was working a very physical job. 50yo me had just gained 80lbs after three years sitting at a desk. This is a no-brainer.
pancakeonions@reddit
I think I was about 25 years old when I learned that men sometimes talk about other men like this. Like "I could take him". Solid_Association_49@reddit
“You mean I can have real meat???”
BarnacleGooseIsLoose@reddit
In a restaurant!
eddie964@reddit
Yeah. I was a chain-smoking, 125-pound stoner. I'd been in a scrap or two but wasn't much of a fighter.
These days, at 56, I'm 175 pounds and -- although I'm not in peak condition that I hit 10 years ago -- I'm about as strong as I've ever been. I run, train weights and hit a bag regularly. I have boxing and martial arts training, and the physical confidence that goes along with it.
Whatever edge in speed or reflexes Young Me might have would be canceled out by Old Me's experience and training.
stanley_leverlock@reddit
If 55 year old me explained what our lives had become 25 your old me would kick the shit out of me and I'd let him.

The problem is what i consider fair. "He who wins write the history." So was it a fair fight? Yes yes it was.. from behind with a dagger
Solid_Association_49@reddit
25 year old me was a fighter. In shape. Tough. 50 year old me is soft. With grandkids. No way I’m taking younger me.
DoookieMaxx@reddit
I didn’t completely understand “grown man strength” until I got here.
I’ve worked, labor, my whole life and my muscles are dense. I stayed in shape so my cardio is good.
I like my odds.
Especially if they’ve not worked labor jobs. Modern gym muscles are a swollen joke.
BrewCrewBall@reddit
I played college rugby, I wouldn’t have a chance.
Princess_Jade1974@reddit
Old me lifts weights, younger me walked as her sole form of exercise. I could take her!!
Tangboy50000@reddit
With this back, absolutely not. lol
Sonoran_Dog70@reddit
50 yr old me ain’t fighting fair.
swolicannoli@reddit
Exactly. I wasn’t that much stronger then but I’ve dealt w way more bullshit and can tap into a higher rage level
Couldbelater@reddit
Cause win or lose and it’s all gonna feel the same in the morning. No reason to play fair.

Facts
thaaag@reddit
Good lord no. I have a laundry list of body aches and pains and my desk job and "life in general" keep me from actually having any useful degree of cardio fitness. 25 year old me was riding a mountain bike to commute and just for fun. 25 year old me might not have been incredibly strong, but I was no slouch. 50 year old me might think of a few dirty tricks (go for joints, throat, eyes, ears, anything vulnerable) but honestly, if 25 year old me got attacked by some 50 year old like I am now, I think I'd stand my ground and give my old ass a seeing to.

Yeah. I’ve been in more of them and I’m in better shape.

Neither one of us was a fighter. We'd swap bad jokes until one of us wet themselves.
Sweaty_Chef1342@reddit
I could have taken 25 yo me easy
Much stronger and meaner at 50
Now at 35 it’s a problem
rjross0623@reddit
I’m a lover, not a fighter. Couldn’t beat myself up at either age.
defStef@reddit
Nope
Rundle1999@reddit
Probably a decent fight to a mutual death
UnrealizedDreams90@reddit
Nope. I've kept myself in shape, but I've never considered anything cheating in a fight, so no difference there.
Most_Maintenance5549@reddit
Neither of us ever wanted to fight or hurt anyone.
Mueryk@reddit
No. No chance in hell.
Lostwithsight@reddit
Speed is the factor! Stenght factors into the fight. Close fight yes a 50 yr old can win. With space then it will be difficult but it comes down to knowledge with any outcome.
kabekew@reddit
I probably could because I'd know what to say to get him to agree it's not worth fighting an old man for some dumb reason, get him to let down his guard and sucker punch him in the jaw.
Tim-no@reddit
Not a f$&king chance.
BreakfastAcceptable8@reddit
I think we'd both lose
hapster85@reddit
Came here to say that 😂
Dank_Strategist420@reddit
You are correct. We would knock ourselves out with a coupla shots to the solar plexus (legs go bye-bye) followed by the jaw jackhammer.
Reader47b@reddit
I'm slower, less fit, and less flexible, but I'm also heavier, meaner, and more aware. If I could just get myself to the ground and sit on myself, I'd win.
medisamurai@reddit
i could fight ok and was pretty strong but i was so happy go lucky at 25 im not sure i could have dialed in the rage of life i have now lol
EmotionalVegetable48@reddit
Definitely. I’m in much better shape today than I was back then
xamott@reddit
Oh my god yes. Been doing Muay Thai since I was 25 and I’m 52 now. Plus some years of BJJ and boxing. I would clown 20 something me and 20 something anyone. One of the benefits of age: more training. In everything.

There is no way 50-year old me would be abiding by any rules. No holds barred! Keep your head on a swivel young man, cause anything not bolted down is a potential weapon.
viking12344@reddit
Absolutely. If....the 50 year old has kept himself up. If the 50 year old has let himself go....no. If the 50 year old knows how to fight and the 25 year old does not? No contest. Same goes the other way.
In a fist fight it comes down to what you are willing to do. Are you trained at all in hand to hand? Many factors go into this. If neither know how to fight and you have the balls to strike first, you have the advantage. A shot to the throat is tough to recover from.
Catnip_75@reddit
I was freakishly strong when I was 25. That’s a big no at 51. I feel significantly weaker although I can still carry heavy things I wouldn’t have the speed I would need to fight 25 year old me lol
xBobaFattx@reddit
It's a tough call. I was in peak shape in the military and played tons of sports for fun.
My only shot would be to just go badger mode full on for 30 seconds or so. And only because I'm about 40 lbs bigger now. If that doesn't work, 25 year old me is beating me senseless.
Aisling207@reddit
Neither 25 year old me, nor 50 year old me would have any interest in fighting. I’d take 25 year old me…out on the town!
delldarlin@reddit
Neither of us has ever fought fair, and probably never will.
vistaculo@reddit
He’ll no
Quick-Reputation9040@reddit
lol, fat middle- aged me against 3 years out of the air force academy me? i mean, i’d cheat and still lose lol
DarthVader808@reddit
You could just destroy yourself mentally first.
Tonto_HdG@reddit
40 yes, 50 no.
Scorpius666@reddit
Definitely, I double 25 years old me in weight.
Also I have way more muscle. I was really skinny at 25 and like 120 pounds.
CleMike69@reddit
25 year old me was a fresh black belt so i probably wouldnt risk it lol
djunderh2o@reddit
I was going to easily say no until you brought up the anger. The rage may be enough to tip the scales, but ultimately I think the lack of cardio and decreased mobility would do me in.
notedrive@reddit
At 25 I could fall and shrug it off, at 47 I think I’d need 3 minutes on the ground before I would think about getting up.
HintonBE@reddit
Ummm...no.
25 year old me was a very different person than I am now - and I'm glad for the change for the better.
SMakked@reddit
Nah don't think so. My body is fucked from years of pub brawling in the 90s used to love fighting but now body is fucked. Knuckles all have arthritis now, they are mangled
tuberlord@reddit
Absolutely. When I was 25 I had a beer gut, didn't sleep enough, and was stoned all the time. Coffee was the only reason I accomplished anything.
swentech@reddit
Nope!
Top-Caregiver-6266@reddit

Techno_Core@reddit
I feel like I would win cause 25 year old me would stick to the "fair fight" premise and I would not.
