I've edited my comment to link to the page on his website about, but he rightly has no wish to be associated with a website famous for so, so many awful things, and that its reputation is so dire that being associated with it would be professionally damaging to him. I agree, and to be honest, talking about it is probably the push I need to uninstall the app and quit it like I did with Facebook. Let's see how that goes.

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

No, because I don't really want to be on this website, hate that it has the social media dopamine-claws in me and hosts otherwise good forums for my hobbies, and find every connotation that "Redditor" carries (misogynistic, racist, x-phobic man-child) deeply embarrassing.

Why can't we buy 6 packs of beer?

TWO? I sniffed the port last Christmas and I'm only *just* getting out of rehab! Yes, alcohol isn't good for you. I don't think anybody doesn't know that. But tie this in with the whole Reddit and AskUK corpus; never try hard to achieve at work, never have kids, relationships are rigged and you'll always lose, never have a beer or you'll be an instant alcoholic, treat life as a distraction from the computer games, like, is it any *wonder* you're all completely fucking miserable?

Is the UK as bad and as dangerous as social media makes out?

Posted by HairyMuffHunter@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 34 comments

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

No. Violent crime is trending quite strongly *downwards* and has been for decades. This is the problem with nailing your entire view of the world outside your immediate view on media that has every interest in pissing you off. It's designed to make you worried. It's designed to constantly redline your emotions until you feel that there's nothing left and we're at the end of it all and **won't somebody do something??**. It's designed to lie.

I am afraid something bad is about to happen, are you?

Quick extra bit of advice: Reddit has *terrible* ideas on how the world of work functions. If you work hard and go the extra mile to build your skills, it will pay off; perhaps not immediately, but it's worth investing experience in yourself.

How can I keep a cat in my student house without being told off?

Posted by SigmaGoose@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 14 comments

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

Don't. I'm guessing you're still very young and new to renting, so I'll state the obvious - don't fuck about when it comes to your housing lease. It's absolutely not worth it for a cat. While some certainly can make it difficult, it's wise to maintain a good relationship with your landlord. Additionally, it's very unfair on your housemates to do this. They have the rightful expectation that their home will be pet-free, and you should show that the according respect. I would not have been happy in their situation.

What is the best place to buy cheap CDs?

Posted by Morganx27@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 22 comments

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

Charity shops, for sure, but it depends on what you actually want to listen because they're also getting more aware of the CD revival and know they can sell them for more online. Nothing wrong with that, their job is to raise money for their charity. eBay is the next best, but if something is sought after, niche, and out of print, that's about the right price. CDs are more expensive than streaming to start - but of course, you don't have to pay forever to keep access unlocked. If you're planning to rip them anyway, check out Bandcamp, as you can usually get digital for cheaper and you can burn to CD if you want.

People who live on new build estates and choose not to park on their drives, why do you do it?

Posted by JazzyBee1993@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 281 comments

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

I know the answer on this sub is going to be that it's some kind of terrible character flaw that makes a person parking on the street an intrinsically, irredeemably evil person, but it's probably just that backing in or out of a driveway is a pain and they're well within their legal right to park there.

Largest offspring wants a budget Gaming PC - should I buy it, build it, or...convert it?

Posted by ResplendentBear@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 23 comments

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

If you're not fully in that world and willing to spend a lot of money, I would buy pre-built; you can go mad and skint fixing gremlins in something that doesn't work but *should* work, and it's great to have a warranty for when that happens.

What's something that's expensive but worth it?

Posted by Loose_Avocado4670@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 89 comments

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

A bit of an odd one, but I feel like IKEA furniture gets unfair flack for being relatively expensive for flat-pack. I think a lot of bad opinions of flat-pack come from buying the cheapest possible shelves from Amazon and being surprised that they don't hold together so well. Or somebody did something daft like try and move a fully-loaded bookcase, which is what kills flat-pack.

If you remember Crime such as mugging, assault, robbery, etc much more "prevalent" in the early 2000s and 90s or prior?

Posted by Diligent-Food-6058@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 35 comments

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

It's worth noting just how *bad* things got in some places prior to the nineties. My city, Liverpool, was in an extremely dire state in the 1980s that brought serious consequences for crime that have left us with a lingering reputation to this day. Violent crime has decreased significantly since then, both in this city and nationally. However, *perception* of crime is extremely high at the moment, through the influence of tabloid and social media. There's a big sense that "things have never been so bad", but a lot of it is chasing shadows.

Why is drinking so ingrained in English culture?

Posted by EvrthnICRtrns2USmhw@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 43 comments

SentientWickerBasket@reddit

History and momentum. Our climate encouraged socialising indoors, and the public house was born. Because it's been such a cornerstone of our social culture for hundreds of years, we don't have the shaming "but he drinks!" culture that countries like the US do, but that is changing slightly amongst some of the younger generation, through a combination of increased understanding that drinking can affect your health and perhaps foreign influence from social media.

I mean... Maybe a hundred people, a cargo hold full of sound and lighting equipment, flying on their schedule and not an airline's? Yeah, that really couldn't fit on a scheduled flight. This isn't uncommon, Iron Maiden did the same for while. You can watch their documentary and see just how much stuff is on these jets.

No. There are hard times, there are easy times, there are interesting times. It's a lot of life. Social media, especially Reddit, is a combination of clueless and weird about kids. There's a lot of amplification of 19-year-olds, barely not children themselves, and nobody wants or understands kids at that age.
