What is the best place to buy cheap CDs?

I'm looking to buy lots of CDs for not very much money, but looking on Music Magpie some of them are insanely pricey. Like, £15 for an album that came out in 1982. Is there anywhere you can just buy a sack of CDs for a fiver, or have I missed the peak time to buy CDs of "after Spotify became mainstream, but before people started getting sick of Spotify"? I'm thinking of Cex, but I know what they're like sometimes. I want an MP3 player again is all.

Charity shops are an absolute gold mine for them, can get for about a £1 as not many people want them Cash converters is usually good too Car boot sales?

Charity shops are the place. Local ones are best, not Oxfam etc. I got a bag of 100 CDs for £5 from a charity shop. I was on a hunt for a Jonny Cash cd (don't ask) and one was in there. I kept another 8-10 of them and put the rest on Freegle.

Charity shops, car boot sales, Discogs, Ebay, Amazon marketplace, ask locally. They are rather like how vinyl was in the 90s, people with large collections they never listen to and are in the way - they will get rid for 50p a pop so fill your boots. They probably won't hit the same heights in terms of value but easy to get a collection together.

Honestly if you're buying second hand CDs to rip to MP3 you might as well pirate the albums from torrent sites.

Maybe not absolute rock bottom cheapest but best blend between service and cost I’ve found is Amazon used. For example https://amzn.to/40bOKWi it’s about half the price for the used copy v new 👌

As well as charity shops, maybe your local council has a one or more recycling centres. One near me has a small shipping container full of books and CDs and records etc. The stock is changing all the time due to new stuff coming in from house clearances etc.

Charity shops, for sure, but it depends on what you actually want to listen because they're also getting more aware of the CD revival and know they can sell them for more online. Nothing wrong with that, their job is to raise money for their charity. eBay is the next best, but if something is sought after, niche, and out of print, that's about the right price. CDs are more expensive than streaming to start - but of course, you don't have to pay forever to keep access unlocked. If you're planning to rip them anyway, check out Bandcamp, as you can usually get digital for cheaper and you can burn to CD if you want.
