“Let me just say this..“ Black, poor, American. For each of these adjectives that do not apply to you you should increasingly not be trying to be a rapper.

Dipping sauce for pizza?

Posted by Standard_Plant_8709@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 886 comments

PrimusDCE@reddit

Garlic butter and marinara are common free side sauces that pizza places will include, but it is very much a YMMV thing as far as popularity. A lot of people will put ranch on their pizza too, which I never really liked, personally.

Does "I couldn't care less" and "I could care less" mean the same thing now just because people use both?

Posted by HolidayEntry6823@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 245 comments

PrimusDCE@reddit

Yes, it's a colloquialism. It's informal language that is commonly accepted and understood. It doesn't bother me because day to day isn't academia and this is just how language works, as it is ultimately fluid. At one point the basis of French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish was informal, "vulgar" Latin. Speech will always evolve faster than the written word.

Americans that don’t have college degrees do you have difficulty finding decent jobs?

PrimusDCE@reddit

No, did the military and it basically bypassed all that bullshit through experience. The funny thing is I got out during the recession and all my friends were leaving college and couldn't get work.

Very bad. I had one that used to loom around my car at night. One night something happened and it ended up spraying around my front door. The front side of my house smelled really bad for about a month.

Posted by Glenncinho@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 1038 comments

PrimusDCE@reddit

Nah, if the context is supposed to be an insult I feel same rules apply to a cultural epithet as they do to racial ones. It's like a black guy calling a white guy a cracker or honky. It's toothless in the face of power dynamics.

How do Americans usually watch TV nowadays?

Posted by Axxtr@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 229 comments

PrimusDCE@reddit

I am one of the few people who does live TV, but I go through services like YoutubeTV and Hulu Live vs through a cable company. Essentially, if I am home my TV is on. The mast majority of people are getting their video entertainment from a combination of the internet and things like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, Disney+, etc. A lot of my friends will seasonally activate a streaming TV service for sports, exclusively. Also, a lot of people build their own PLEX servers and subscribe to each other.

Is it socially acceptable to follow sports teams from various cities?

Posted by ChairmanKaga_@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 304 comments

PrimusDCE@reddit

Lots of people support out of market teams. People are transient or just simply like a big market team (There is a very common walking joke that is the Lakers/ Cowboys/ Yankees fan), and a lot of people will follow players vs a team. Additionally, many cities don't even have major league teams so people living there may gravitate towards the out of market options.

Everything is relative the east coast because that is the origin point of British North American colonization. It is also why like 3/4 of the US is called "the west".

It's passable but it isn't like he's attempting anything regional or deserves an award or anything. It's the accent he's been inundated with his entire life through heavy consumption of American media. Is the type of accent your boss puts on when addressing the underlings.

I don't really think about it. Honestly if I hear an accent the first thing I think is immigrant not tourist. Neither is annoying to me either.
