Who is the American success story really working for right now?

As a European, Im tired of consuming filtered narratives and headline-driven takes from biased outlets orbiting around issues in the US.
Like why are there still people arguing about if ICE is “actually” bad???
I need to hear from real people: What is everything that is currently wrong with the US?

Where to even begin?? It's a constant daily hellscape of cruelty and stupidity. It's been heading increasingly in this direction since the Reagan administration around the time I was born.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is: every reasonable American is horrified, afraid, angry, and fed the fuck up, but with a Republican majority in all branches of government, the only things to save us are the midterms (we'll see how that goes with the SAVE Act looming and mail-in voting being undermined) and/or a civil war (and the MAGAs have most of the guns)
I, personally, want to get the hell out of here but am overwhelmed by the prospect of actually leaving and trying to get somewhere before I'm technically a refugee (think we're heading that way). Any advice, people of the world? Lol

Life is so fucking hard here…
I’m away from home this weekend traveling for work.
My wife just called me. She was moving an open can of paint to the room she was working on and dropped it on the dining room rug. Then the dog ran through it to get away cause she was freaking out so there are little off-white footprints down the hall.
Life is truly awful.

Just about everyone I know is doing fine, but I live in a small town in the midwest where the cost of living is low and so are taxes. A comparable house in Virginia to mine would be double in price and property taxes would be 4 to 5 times what I pay.

Here is the truth for you. You have made it clear that you are not an American....
So do I give you my opinion on what is wrong or just immediately exclude you because you aren't part of the club? I don't have any incentive to encourage you to divide us, and you wouldn't understand what does divide us and what unites us because you aren't us...
We have the same issues that any "family" has. We don't all agree. But there is something that most of us a extremely proud of and agree upon... We like being American.

everything that is wrong with the us is us the people, and in particular that no one wants to take accountability. they want to blame someone else for everything that is wrong, whether that’s “the elites,” corporations, immigrants, californians, take a pick of your favorite boogie man.

The American success story was always, at best, a gross exaggeration
madogvelkor@reddit
Most people are upset about rising prices, housing costs.
gaytee@reddit
As an American, I’m tired of it too.
Too many people see the current state of the country as their personal identity, except are willing to do nothing about it other than yell into the void. I’m not maga, I don’t support Trump, but I didn’t vote for Kamala either.
The stuff that’s wrong is that nobody on either side is willing to compromise, and the progressives have dug so far into their idealistic way of governing that even with low approvals of Trump, conservatives are growing.

No one. There are essentially three classes:
The unimaginably wealthy, who have so much money and power that it exceeds the human capacity to enjoy and actually presents a spiritual burden. Deeply unhappy.
The moderately successful. A class of labor aristocracy that class #1 is successfully gradually destroying. These people are consumed by the fear that they too will be one of the hundreds of thousands who fall into class #3 every year. Consumed by anxiety.
The working poor. Terminally indebted, chronically overworked. Miserable in the original sense of the word.

The biggest issue with the US is our political parties. If you’re left-wing economically, but right-wing socially, you have no one to vote for. If you’re left-wing on everything, but want control on immigration and mass deportations, you have no one to vote for.
Our political parties are terrible, and if you vote for one, you’re likely voting for multiple things against your values, and just have to weigh which party shares slightly more than the other
Coldfyre_Dusty@reddit
Probably going to be taken down, but sure why not, I'll bite.
Biggest issue is that nobody talks about the issues. No debate is civil, no discussion leads to compromise. People of differing political views have stopped trying to convince the other side.
As much as people hate to admit it, success requires cooperation, even with those you disagree with. And that means issues aren't addressed as quickly as people would hope sometimes. But slow progress is better than the current formula of two steps forward five steps back.
Rd3055@reddit
Extremely one-sided media leads to people repeating simplistic talking points, blaming the other political party for anything, and failing to see the bigger picture.

And the reason is because the wealthy and powerful at the top want to keep us polarized.

"Europeans" can't even make their own propaganda anymore, smh 😔

Okay, you're going to have to connect the dots between ICE and this 'American success story' thing, please.
PrimusDCE@reddit
This is reddit, it isn't real people. You will get the most unhinged liberal answer from people who can't figure out how to not be a server at Applebee's.
bones_bones1@reddit
I’m doing pretty well. My taxes are way too high though.
EmmalouEsq@reddit
The ultra wealthy. That's it. The rest of us are just barely hanging on. I don't think the world understands that there are a LOT of people who can't afford all of their groceries or their home utilities and any help has been severely cut if it even exists at all.
What the world is seeing is propaganda in any news coming from the US (it really isn't to be trusted). Just like the media being filtered to the US public is incomplete and propaganda.
QueenShewolf@reddit
You mean, you have a few days for me to tell you what's wrong over here?
Final_Location_2626@reddit
Affordability and unemployment are most Americans concerns.
But they are boring stories, so they do not make the news.
chirop1@reddit
You're on Reddit my man. This is the home of the echo chamber.

The answer will depend on you. Do you have a long attention span? Do you like textbooks for reference? Do you need pictures? We have plenty.
KJHagen@reddit
You don’t think Reddit is biased?
Funny_likes2048@reddit
Honestly not much. But because we don’t have real problems, we find issues with a million small things.

😭bro asked for everything currently wrong with america. Good thing you’re European because us Americans can’t finish a novel.
hydrated_purple@reddit
I would say we have some thing wrong, but a lot less wrong than you think.
We have problems just like any other country. Shocker I know.
