They were the band that might have been. While i appreciated how they were like the missing link between hair bands and grunge, I sold the used cd back to the place where i got it the next day. Like many, i only heard of the band because I was a pearl jam fan and because of the death.

Vividly remember getting drunk with my friend in college [both of us high school English teachers in training] and listening to/reciting along with the intro of volume 2... We did our best drunken choral effort before completing the most epic air drum fill leading to "the boys, the boys." Ahhhh...the nerdom.

My mom was a fan, but it was when I saw his Unplugged that i realized that he was a fantastic performer with some solid songs. Also funny as hell.

Going out to eat was a fairly big deal growing up, and a family favorite was Ponderosa. Did you have a favorite "the family is going out to dinner" place?

We also had our go-to Ponderosa. Cheap-ass all-you-can-eat steak?! Sign us up! Tasted so damn good...always got sick after though, ngl. Totally worth it and the ice cream/frozen dairy product.

What Elvis references do you remember growing up? There were many.

For whatever reason, among the many out there, the first reference to pop in my mind was REM Man on the Moon. Michael Stipe singing "...goofing on Elvis, hey baby," always made/makes me smirk.

Post a band. Reply with your favorite song.

Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Radiohead, Bjork and Rammstein. Delightfully upbeat music, in other words. 😉

There needs to be a shout out to Butch Vig. Yes, Billy was the writer, but Butch's approach to producing made this album sound so fantastic. Just like he did with Nirvanas Nevermind. All instruments shine on Siamese Dream perfectly because of Butch Vig.

I'm sure there are no shortage of Aerosmith haters around here, but...

You couldn't escape them in the 90s, and I mean, they are our American Rolling Stones...but with the excellence of Joe Perry riffing iconic licks.

I think Jared Leto keeps getting roles because most of the Casting Directors in Hollywood had a crush on Jordan Catalano.

PastPotatoes@reddit (OP)

Saw them at lollapalooza when Metallica was headlining. Came down with mono that day, but forced myself to stand for Soundgarden. It was everything I had hoped for with a saddened solo performance of Black Hole Sun. There was alot of multi-layered mixing in the studio, but the best live performance I've ever seen was their SNL appearance with Jim Carrey hosting. Pretty Noose and Burden in my Hand. Definitely check that out.

As a teen, I had this as a giant 5'x7' poster on the ceiling of my bedroom above my bed. All around it i had thousands of varyingly-sized glow-in-the-dark stars that, due to their random placement, looked so uncannilyreal that when lights out occurred, I was sleeping under the stars. I made constellations of the girls. You just reminded me of it. https://preview.redd.it/9wx1r79s880g1.jpeg?width=3108&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d1e2cbc28628cf13dc3010502025458865a0636

Oh yeah, I recognized the similarities, but decided to keep it since it also echoed the 90s. I was heavily inspired by Chris Cornell in high school, and Trent clearly embodied the same grunge inspiration; so it was inevitable with making a quick simple line drawing that it would look similar. The Joey's were mirrors to so many then too with the exact middle of the hair part too. Daria was already poking fun at the same tropes as we lived them, so its hard not to end up paying homage in the same way. All the more 90s, the better!

Definitely on my all-time list... but all of their albums that followed are equally amazing. Garbage is still a power house with Manson only getting more savage with time. Republica would be more akin to Savage Garden.

Everything Zen introduced us to a fresh grunge sound as Pearl Jam veered wherever they went, Soundgarden drowned in alcohol, Nirvana passed, and Alice in chains slowed it down even further into depression.

From the 90s? As a grunge fan, Bush easily fit right in with Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. Radiohead and Space Hog come to mind as decent Brit rock bands, but totally a different wave length away from grunge. But what, Oasis? Blur? The Verve? [Aka the wannabe Beatles, Sex Pistols and Stones] No, I think Bush was the stand out for loud grunge.
