Mother Love Bone fans?

I remembered hearing their name after Pearl Jam made it big, but I don't really recall hearing their music in the 90s/00s. Sirius plays a few of their songs infrequently on the Lithium channel. I took a deeper dive into them earlier this year, and they have became one of my favorite bands to listen to. Any other Mother Love Bone fans here?

Fuckin-A right! We wouldn't have Pearl Jam, Soundgargen, Alice In Chains, or Temple of the Dog if it wasn't for these guys.
BrodysMuseum@reddit
Pearl Jam and Temple of the Dog, yes, but both Soundgarden and AIC were well established and had released their debut albums before Wood's death.
s-multicellular@reddit
Yes. 🙌 My little sister and I covered Man of Golden words once on an album. Fond memories.

I’ve still never seen the movie but I wore the cassette tape out.

It's a great movie. Early Cameron Crowe.

I didn't discover them until after Pearl Jam, which I suspect is the case with a lot of people. They're great. That original grunge scene feels like the last organic movement in rock. It was swiftly wrecked by corporate entities, as is the way of things.

I remember picking up an MLB CD about a month after buying Ten. I was 12 and the guy at Sam Goody thought it was really funny that a 12-year-old girl was buying MLB; he thought I was getting it because the cover had a lot of purple. My mom was with me and heard me say “well I’m buying this because Jeff and Stone from Pearl Jam were in this band and I want to hear what they sound like” She was so proud that I didn’t give one flying fuck about speaking my mind. 🤣
Brought it home, let it rip and it was so different than what I expected. I really thought it’d be more in line with PJ and it wasn’t at all - but I still loved it. Ended up buying the VHS, Apple, couple tee shirts (one with “Half Ass Monkey Boy” written in green on the back. Got TOTD.
It was a foundational band for me as it pushed me into learning about and listening to other bands from back then.

Stone Gossard's sister was so beautiful here

They always reminded me of The Cult. Which I LOVE.
toomanyusesforaname@reddit
Don't hear the similarity, but agree on one thing: the Cult was/is amazing
macrocosm93@reddit
I checked them out but never really liked them. To me they're part of that late 80s sleaze rock era where 4/5 songs are power ballads. But the only grunge band I ever really liked a lot was Nirvana.

I love how many hard rock /grunge acts from the early 90s had circa 1988 publicity photos with teased hair and guyliner

The grunge scene would look & sound very different if Andrew had lived. Great band.

Definitely a fan. I named my dog Chloe after one of their songs when I was a teenager. ❤️

No, you did not.

They were on the cusp of widespread fame when Andy Wood OD'd. Shame, but we got Pearl Jam as the phoenix that rose from their ashes.Â

Great band. The perfect bridge between the fun that was the 80’s and the all too serious grunge movement.

I only heard the name related to Temple of the Dog tribute.

I once heard them referred to as “Seattle GN’R” and I feel like it’s appropriate.
Big fan, even if I didn’t really listen to them until after the fact.

We wouldn’t have Pearl Jam without them. Andy had a powerful set of pipes. More akin to Cornell’s than Vedder’s.

I found Apple around 1996, I think? I played it non-stop for months.
I was 10 when it came out so too young to appreciate it until later.

No, but I'm supposed to.

I much prefer Pearl Jam.
FelixAxellus@reddit
I got into Mother Love Bone way late, in like 1999. I think I bought the Singles soundtrack, and loved "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns." That got me to buy their album, and I immediately dug "Stardog Champion" and "Man of Golden Words.
It's wild it took me so long to get into them, I'd been a huge fan of Temple of the Dog.
