People from cities with more than one big football club - what made you choose yours?

I started going to Sheffield Utd games in the early 80s with me dad and granddad. Growing up there were never any chance of me growing up to support them other lot. That would've been a disowning offence right there.

Friday nights I normally do 5-a-side and a cheeky pint with my mates. I go to the footy with my lad most Saturdays. If not I always have some bit of DIY needs doing, whether it's my house or either of my kids' houses. My lad is handy with that sort of stuff but my son-in-law is a DIY disaster so he'd much rather get me in than fuck it up and get me to unfuck it for him. Sundays is usually more chilled out family stuff so I potter about with my wife and/or the grandkids. Or optionally taking the dog out for a proper walk.

Not normally but I'll clear stuff out of the footpath if it looks sharp, especially glass. My dog's hurt his paw a couple of times due to arseholes leaving broken glass on the pavement.

Heh, these days they'll be Man City fans. Got the latest shirt and everything, it's got pride of place in the wardrobe next to the Arsenal invincibles and Chelsea 2004/05 shirts. I've worked with one lad like this, it's mad. Mate you were born in Hallam. There's two professional clubs in Sheffield (although Wednesday can fuck right off) and two historic non-league ones to choose from, and you did this?! SMH

>why do we have the english football season in the coldest, most miserable months Spaces out the sporting calendar so there's something on all year round. Football and rugby can be played in the winter, tennis and cricket can't be played in pissing rain and when it gets dark at 4.30. So we do football and rugby in the winter with tennis and cricket during strawberry and pimms season down south.

How is it like to live in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire?

Posted by melt3d_ic3cream@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 13 comments

Grim_Farts_Barnsley@reddit

Wow that's suspiciously local to me like. If you end up buying from one of the new build developments in the area you might end up in a house I did some electrical work on. The area's generally OK, it's nicer than other local spots (especially Wakefield). Cost of living in Yorkshire generally is on the low end compared to the rest of the country but I can't speak to that town specifically. At a guess it'll be cheaper than living in Wakefield or Pontefract. A quick look on rightmove and house prices aren't that far from what they are in Barnsley either, so "fairly reasonable". As someone else said you might find it tricky to find work locally though as there's not a lot there. You might end up living in South Elmsall and commuting to somewhere bigger for work. Nursery, no idea sorry, but there's plenty of parks and open space in the area. Failing that you're just down the road from Hemsworth Water Park, which is a nice day out for the kids when it's open.

Think bigger. Can't nick a dog you can't lift. We have a huge derpy 16 stone mastiff. Most of the time he's just a furry blanket that huffs if you stop rubbing his tummy but the couple of times people have hopped our back fence he's turned into a twat seeking missile in the blink of an eye.

Way back in't day my daughter's school had a falconer come round to show off to kids and parents. The first bird was some dirty great shitehawk, it had a whale of a time. The second one was some little owl thing and the gulls just ganged up on it and it ended up hiding under a bush.

It's up to you but if you've lived your whole life in England then being English or British seems normal. Personally I identify as a Yorkshireman and not English or British though.

>I never felt like I was English except during Euros/the World Cup. This gets close. England in the football and rugby and team GB at the Olympics, but only because Yorkshire don't compete as an independent nation. Couldn't give a fig about British or English otherwise lol

Necessity. I quit smoking donkeys years ago when the wife told me she was pregnant. I weren't about to expose a pregnant woman or a youngun to my second hand smoke. Gerrin off nicotine weren't easy but that's what willpower's for.

What sport is more popular Rugby or Cricket?

Posted by Bilaln89@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 25 comments

Grim_Farts_Barnsley@reddit

That depends where in the UK and which code of rugby. In Yorkshire cricket's easily more popular than rugby union but if you to some places like Wakefield or Castleford there's a big rugby league following. Can't speak to other parts of the country though.

When did lager get popular in the UK?

Posted by cactusdan94@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 98 comments

Grim_Farts_Barnsley@reddit

I started sneakily drinking in pubs in the very late 80s and lager was everywhere even then. By the time I were 18 (1991) most pubs locally had more lager than anything else with local brews relegated to the "guest ale" pump.

Grim_Farts_Barnsley@reddit

My kids are already adults, but I totally get the whole going for a pint when they turn 18 thing. It's a big milestone for a dad. Personally what I'm looking forward to is taking my grandson to the footy regularly. The little fella is 4, we started taking him to the odd home game back end of last season and a few this season. I remember being a young lad going to away days with my dad and granddad in the early 80s, those are some of my happiest childhood memories, so I'm keen to get the little fella involved.

How often do you/your friends attend pro football matches?

Posted by shesellseychelles@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 127 comments

Grim_Farts_Barnsley@reddit

Me and my lad are Sheffield United season ticket holders. We go to every home game and some of the away games. My lad gets to more away days than me these days but we probably get to about half of them together.

Two decent size monitors on adjustable mounts, keyboard and mouse plugged into a docking station. Laptop trackpads are useless if you have big hands like me. Personally I reuse the keyboard/mouse/screens from my personal desktop and switch to the docking station using a KVM switch. As someone else already said, speakers or a proper sound system. I listen to music while I'm working, with the best will in the world I'm not keeping my headset on the entire day, my head gets sweaty enough just having it on for four hours of meetings each workday.
