Which means we add hidden words via context. Is (the) Greggs (next door) open? Vs Are (the chain) Greggs still in business). The same entity can be talked about in both singular or plural in many cases. Manchester United is a big club. Manchester United are playing Chelsea. For Americans the latter is still singular.

You didn't mention anything about people who fought 1500 years ago, which was the entire point. If those are less relevant to you than the people you just mentioned, you have agreed with me and proved my point.

You didn't answer my question. You also seem to be ignoring that I'm saying "less" relevant, not irrelevant. The original question was why you see it "less". Less relevance = less visibility.

Do people in the UK wear football kits casually?

Due_Dot5710@reddit

As an American sports fan myself I understand you, but what I can't understand is why you bought another team's shirt (you keep saying kit but I'm hoping a grown adult isn't walking around with the shorts and socks too). As someone else said, simply not buying it and wearing a t-shirt was an option.
