Do people in the UK have more disposable income than Americans?

Dazz316@reddit

Cost of living is a big thing. Last I heard it can be anywhere from 1/5th to 1/3rd more expensive there and that won't include medical health insurance either. It really depends where you sit and how much these things affect you. Our lowest off are much better here and our higher earners are much better there.

Yep, now and again. My friends mainly live away and honestly, I want the alone time. The whole "going to the movies alone" thing is stupid anyway because you aren't meant to talk to anybody.

tbh, same thing. But I go to uni to give myself a head start. I had the grades back in the day, but went into social sciences because a careers advisor suggested it. I was skilled in maths, physics and computers...no reason I should have gone into that. Dropped out, ended up working security for a few years, went travelling with my now wife, started HND in Tech Support at 25 and now I do that fairly well. Starting that at 18 pushing into more difficult stuff like security or cloud infrastructure (which is my aim atm) would be a big boost. There's kids just starting a rung or 2 below me starting at decent companies. It's be a few years before they are where I am but they'll get where I am a lot younger. Plus, I lived at home the entire time until I moved in with my girlfriend. I'd love to go live in student halls and do all that. Move away from my home city and experience that. I know there'd have been more money in software development back then, but my attention to detail can be a bit shit and while I've been OK for it this entire time. I can imagine how shockingly full of errors my coding would be.

Worked at a petrol station, leccy goes off at like 9:30, I'm on my own and I have to close up by 12. Call the manager, no I can't go home. The whole street (turned out to be the whole town) was down and there's nothing in the place but my emergency lighting. Waited 30 minutes, call my manager, no still can't go home. Sweep, tidy. A few people come by and kinda give me a hopeful look but my shrug from inside is enough for them to understand what they already knew and leave. One woman stands there with the pump in her car waving at me. By this point, it's night and it's dark as fuck. I keep shrugging, pointing up at light. Not getting the hint. She comes in asking what the hell the problem is. I tell her, while the place is in darkness aside from 1 emergency light humming exit in a weak green glow, that there's no power. SO!? She exclaims. Anyway, she argue's like I'm personally choosing to not give her electricity. I try to explain the pumps need eletrcity to pump the fuel. I'm in my last week or two of employement as I've handed my notice in and I really regret not calling her a fucking idiot. The best I got was suggest we knife the line and get the fuel that way, to which she looked at me like "yeah, do that". She started arguing that she's no petrol to get anywhere. I appologise multiple times, explain again there's nothing I can do while the powers out. She threatens to stay there and go nowhere. Fine, I'm watching breaking bad on my phone anyway. So away she sits in her car for like half an hour, giving me the death stare the entire time. Comes back in and not *as* angrily asks when the powers back up, to which I say I've no idea that's up to the electric company. She stomps off, tried to slam the anti slam door and leaves in her car. There was another petrol station 5 minute's drive away, which to be fair didn't have power either but she could have tried there, from the exchange I doubt she knew.

60% English by DNA. That "English" DNA will be a mix of Roman, Saxon, Viking, all sorts. DNA means nothing in that context. Hell, you could be part Vietnamese from some trader who sailed over at some point and had sex with you great great teat....etc etc grandmother. These days, your family name is simply something that goes back 3-5 generations and the rest is losely connected history. Unless you're royalty it kinda just a light fact, not a part of your identity in any shape. Until I made my account private, I used to get messages from Americans saying we're in the same clan (I'm Scottish) and the only clans people ever talk about are online ones, and even then that term has died out now. The best you'll get from people here with the name Rowe is a police smile, and an eyeroll behind your back.

Almost nobody ever talks about it. Diana was very well liked at the time and I think people didn't like the situation but generally, people are ok with Camilla and Charles. At the end of the day, they are just people with normal emotions and needs with the same complexities to that as we all do. Just with an the money and responsibilities tied to that money. There are some that love royalty, some that despise it but generally people are fairly mid on the whole thing

Posted by Ok-Instance2710@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 7 comments

Dazz316@reddit

Yes, pretty much. They'll be hosting these in countries that either don't give a shit or have laws protecting them. They might have several servers, in several locations. But generally yeah you're hooking into a server somewhere that supplies you a feed. Someone will charge you to access it. There's also just the websites that send it out for free and have some advertising on them (ad blocker helps a ton as these ads can be SUPER intrusive and dodgy) or just the plain old downloading the torrent from some people where the torrent is listed on a website.

He's been told if this happens again, that we'll stop buying them. Truth be told I want to avoid buying them at all.

Dazz316@reddit

World cup, while the quality overall is better in the Euros as there's more spots for the teams where they're better. I just enjoy the whole Aura of the WC. Depends where it's held Qatar wasn't great, while people complained about them I lived the Vuvzela's int eh South African ones. I'm very spectacle of the upcoming US one, they've force teams into a format where the group stages are mostly decided before we go, so that's lost a ton of luster. The final's could be exciting but then it's good to have a couple underdogs make it through due to lower quality groups (that can still be exciting to watch if they're matched well). The prices they're charging for tickets is going to lock out a TON of foreign people who have to pay to travel on top, which is a crying shame. There will be less hardcore fans more rich people just willing to go for fun and while that's OK, it's no great. And the Americans aren't exactly known for their crowd, dunno about the Canadians but I am very looking forward to the games with lots of Mexicans, I might even watch some games with Mexican commentary. GGGGGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. And there's these stupid ~~advert~~ hydration breaks for 3 minutes each half. As if VAR wasn't already ruining the flow of play, we have this too. I am hoping for a pretty cool opening and closing ceremony. What I'm hoping for though is America remembers to make it about 2 things, the countries and the world. That World Cup draw was a shambles, why did they have an American Football Player and a Basketball player (as legendary as they were) doing the draw? And they were interviewing non-football players and asking them football questions, some questions were embarrassing too, weren't they briefed and given questions? I dunno, they could really hit it home or royally fuck it up.

I know their homes are built to do that but I've been sin similar homes in other places and the humidity carries the heat inside to a degree. However, it got to a point where my eyeballs would sting from the head and dry out really quickly, there's a tipping point with humidity and 50 is a bit over it.

It can be ok until you get a to a point where you need to scale, but at that point you can't do it homemade, but it can be extremely lucrative. Bonne Mammon I believe started this way, but it's long gong from homemade, though better than the average jams for sure. Kellogs was homemade and if you want to waste an afternoon with one of the weirdest, craziest most batshit mental stories you'll here look it up. You can make up a reason why this was made and you still won't compete with how bonkers the story is.

Where can I get logistical help with relocating to a city?

Posted by Troodash@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 4 comments

Dazz316@reddit

some of these things can be done after you move. Dentist optician etc. First, you have to actually get the move, so you do that first. Where you're moving and how you're getting you and your shit there. That's task numero uno. So start looking for places you want and when you find start viewing etc. Try to arrange a bunch of moves during a single day and you can travel in, look at them, go home and decide. Apply, if not successful, try above again. Rinse and repeat until done. Once you have a place, paid deposit signed blah. You'll know have a move in date. IF YOU ARE DOING THE BELOW BEFORE DOING THE ABOVE Next, inform your current landlord when you'll be moving out. This doesn't *have* to be on the same day. It can be weeks, months later. Whatever is more convenient for you. Hell if it made sense to you in some way you can move out early. But inform the landlord, discuss what they need and what suits you. It may mean an overlap of rent, try to avoid it if you can but that's number 2. After that, how are you moving your shit. Furniture? Can you drive it? In one go in a car? Do you have a car? Does a mate have a van? do you need to hire a van? blah blah. That's task 3. At this point. The main 3 tasks are done. Other things can wait. So no pressure. So, how do you do thge other thinks. Bank. DVLA, doctors, dentists, opticians etc etc etc. Here's the trick to all of them. Call and ask, that's what we all do. You are a grown up now and capable of living on your own. A grown up doesn't mean we know everything so don't feel stressed you don't know how to do those things. You simply find a doctor nearby that suits you, call them and say "Hi, I'm new to the area and looking to join, what do I need to do?" And they'll tell you. You can do this with the DVLA, opticians, etc. Alternatively, they might have the info on the website. But you can do all this later, you don't need to do it now. And you may even need to go in for things so doing it before you move might be impractical. So right now. It's the first 3 things above. What you *can* do is organise what you *would* need to do in advance if you want. ONCE YOU HAVE DONE THE FIRST 3 THINGS, you can start calling places and organising what you would need to do once moved. So you can have a plan of action. But honestly, it's such an easy but incredibly useful thing...call and ask.

Necause they don't want the touristy crap, they want the real deal. I also live in Edinburgh, and while the best sights to see are often in the tourist spots up the mile. Sure you want to head to the Mile for the Castle, the museums, Whiskey Experience is fun, down to the palace and off for other nearby things. But a lot of the shit overpriced eateries are on the Mile as while we know not to eat there, the tourists don't and they can charge high prices for cheaper food. The want to try genuine local food that people eat and not be charged extortionately for it.
