If you were a 29-year-old woman with a nursing degree who loves the outdoors and dreams of a simple, peaceful life near mountains and lakes, but is also affordable, where in the UK would you choose to live?

Don’t laugh. Stoke on Trent is cheap, and has a big university hospital. Peak District is less than ab hour away, Llangollen and the Dee valley are an hour. Snowdonia is less than two hours. Manchester is 40 mins on the train as is Birmingham.

For fellow Brits who've driven in America, what should I know about the road before heading out there?

Posted by AngryGardenGnomes@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 384 comments

Dapper_Source1121@reddit

The best advice I can give is make sure you are in the correct lane. If you choose the correct lane you can’t go wrong but if you end up in the wrong one you can very easily end up on the wrong road and it’s hard to turn round without roundabouts.

There is a train station at San Roque which is about 10km away from Gib. But you would need to get a taxi from there. You could also take a train to Algeciras which might be faster but it’s still a fair trek from there. Honestly the bus is probably the best bet.

I lived in Gibraltar and often used to go to Malaga for the day if that helps, usually to IKEA. Completely doable it’s only two and a bit hours. Leave your car in the big car park by the border and walk in. The queues coming out of Gibraltar at the end of the day can be horrific and there is nowhere to park anyway. The buses and taxis are reasonable.

Should supermarkets have a curfew for children?

Posted by Otherwise-Plane8282@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 18 comments

Dapper_Source1121@reddit

I think I would rather the curfew be for elderly people, they can shop when they want but they insist on clogging up the supermarkets in the limited hours of the day when people who work 9 to 5 can do their shopping. I mean every day when you want to nip into ALDI to grab some lunch on the way into work there always a gang of 20 of them waiting outside for it to open.

Dapper_Source1121@reddit

At least in other countries where this is commonplace family are allowed to be in the hospital with their loved one, rather than being restricted to 90 mins per day (which are decidedly not at meal times)

How is a this type of number plate (EU/Germany) a valid UK number plate? According to MOT its valid. Can some Brit‘s explain the system?

Posted by 95ole@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 18 comments

Dapper_Source1121@reddit

This is a UK registration, just a bell end with an illegal plate. I with the police would crack down on minor bellendism like this not, it just encourages people to be bigger bell end further down the line.
