Have supermarkets stopped doing Diced Lamb?

We tried to get some in both Tesco and Asda a few months ago but struggled, so ended up buying a leg of lamb instead. I’ve managed to buy some in Costco though recently, and I just checked Ocado which seem to have some so my guess it’s either in high demand, or supermarkets are struggling to stock it for whatever reason

By rights, you should struggle to get lamb a few months ago (fresh, local lamb, at least). Be very suspicious of anyone claiming to sell lamb in January.

Lamb is sheep meat less than 12 months old. There is no reason to be suspicious of lamb on sale in January.

All depends on lambing time. Polled Dorset, top end stuff in Waitrose is available in Jan. Lamb is an all the year round product now. Pricey of course.

Why I added the word - traditionally. The marts around here are all hoggets come January. And that isn't even factoring in stuff from the southern hemisphere. But i generally try to avoid that.

Traditionally is meaningless in the context of the current sheepmeat market. Its an all the year round product now. So no need to be suspicious.

Costco is my go to for meat when I cant justify going to my local nice butcher. Great quality and a good price. Just need to be able to freeze it or have a tonne of mouths to feed.

Just had a look and see they have a mutton box, have you tried it? I've never had mutton but always wanted to try it in the slow cooker. Can never find mutton when I look for it in shops.

Mutton? Slow cook it and you'll have the best "lamb" you've ever tasted. If I'm honest we now eat more mutton than lamb.

Mutton is amazing. Like extra lamby lamb. Absolutely brilliant for a stew, hotpot or curry. My local farm used to sell it but they stopped due to lack of demand.

I couldn't find any yesterday but I put it down to it being Easter and everyone is having lamb so it had sold out. Now you've asked this though, I can't remember the last time I saw diced lamb in the supermarket.

Sainsbury's still do 300g and 400g diced lamb, but supply is very erratic - likely due to rising costs. I've noticed that they've been deranged from all locals and small supers near me though, so potentially only large supermarkets.

Price of lamb has gone through the roof. Makes pre prepared meat increasingly unviable. Any good butcher will dice it for you if you’re nice

It's probably as simple as it wasn't selling. Try your local butcher, they can advise you on what cut you want and usually dice it for you. May be a wee bit more, but it's usually better quality.

I asked my butcher for some last week, apparently the lambs are really smaller than normal this year and there’s not enough meat left to do the diced lamb once they’ve done all the cuts that sell, chops, legs etc. I just bought a leg of lamb and diced it myself, which actually worked out cheaper.
