What’s the best reason to have kids?

Unselfish -- well, i mean, it is important to propagate from like a species point of view. I have two wee ones, and yes, they bring me joy, but they are also a lot of work. My husband and I both work. I work from home and watch the kids. My husband used to work from home as well, but his entire department was let go literally the day I gave birth to our youngest, and he could only find office work. Our kids are happy. We are doing our best to raise bright, joyous people who will be kind to others. They are truly wonderful -- and making wonderful kids is a lot of emotional labour. Was it selfish to have them? I dont think that is a fair question. Life is selfish. It is also amazing, a miracle, and a struggle. It is all of these things. Most of my childhood, my mum was a single mother who worked to the bone to give my brother and I a better life. She took us to the office some weekends because she had to. She commuted for hours a day. It was hard for her. My childhood was tough, and yet I am forever grateful for what my mother gave me. I am grateful to be alive, despite the struggles I faced and we faced as a family. I can only hope my children will feel the same way, but there is no guarantee. There never is. If you feel the desire for children and can have them, there isnt shame in doing so. If you want to look at it from a societal standpoint, we need more kids. We need more children than we are currently producing to be able to afford the social network we have. I dont think THAT is a reason to have kids, but other people's reasons are not my business. If you can give a child a loving home, one where they have enough to eat and plenty of affection, that is what a child really needs. You dont need big trips, the latest toys or gadgets. Most weekends, we play at the playground or go on local adventures and our oldest loves every minute of it. Be a little selfish. It is okay.
