We love the Germans. We might take the piss about the war, but if we are taking the piss out of you, it's because we like you. Come join us and don't worry about annoying us. The worst we'll do us tut.

I'm not saying things are great; and austerity politics from the 2008 time until now have really taken their toll. But, things can be a bit shit without it having to be a crisis everytime

Is Driving instructors job, Worth it whilst retraining?

Posted by Admirable_Ad_3422@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 13 comments

CyclingBrit@reddit

Ive had 2 friends go down the drive instructor route in the last 2 or 3 years. Once they'd trained up, neither lasted more than 12 months at it. Both of them cited really long days. Lots of waiting around and sitting in the car as it wasnt cost efficient to return home between lessons etc. and in general, they didnt make anything like the £ that they needed for the time it demanded.

Why did they only do six episode in each Black Adder Series?

Posted by Sin-Silver@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 40 comments

CyclingBrit@reddit

what do you mean, the long drawn out series we get today? Nearly all BBC shows are 6 episodes. They always have been. Even the US shows are condensing down to 6-10 episodes nowadays, when previously, they used to be 20 odd episodes a few years back.

dont you find the soles wear out in no time and the uppers are still perfect nowadays? I can literally wear out a pair of soles on Gazelles in around 3-4 months nowadays. Infact, everything Adidas do, except Superstars, wear out in similar time frames for me. Cant justify buying anything from them thats not heavily reduced nowadays.

well, I find the telemetry and GPS info too much of an overstretch already, so I refuse to buy a car that has such drawbacks. The cameras tho are really pushing it, as far as I am concerned - especially when these companies cannot be trusted to not mine such data.

the question that was posed was 'is it OK to speed'. Nobody said anything about 90mph or tailgating. Wht common sense tells me is just because someone speeds it doesnt make them a killer. Its only reddit and the weird collection of doogooders that come out with that type of bollocks

What have you cut down on/cut out in terms of spending due to cost of living?

Posted by tylerthe-theatre@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 200 comments

I used to go to the local pub every Friday and have a few pints and some street food. Now I go down and have a cpl of pints. I used to go shopping every cpl of days. Now I do a big shop and bulk buy meat from the butchers every few weeks. Cuts down on those impulse purchases every time Im in a supermarket. I just nip to the greengrocers once a week for fresh fruit n veg. Cut out take aways. They were mediocre anyway, and now they cost a mortgage and are even more mediocre.

I dont think someone like you needs a reason. Id guess its part of your personality. Maybe thats why you are such a fan of the US as they're a bunch of over confident dullards too. I've met plenty of people from the US on my travels. Ive seen what the US does to the rest of the world. Ive seen what the US does to its own people. None of those data points have made me think 'I must visit that place'. Quite the contrary.

CyclingBrit@reddit

I dont get my info from reddit. So not sure why that's even relevant. Now I do watch more US v EU comparison videos on Youtube than I really should, and literally nothing about the US seems better than over here. Nothing. There's also lots of data available on the web re cost of living comparisons; happinesss indexes etc and the US fails on just about every front. So I maintain my position that the US is inferior to the UK on every metric apart from the wage you receive.

well, thats why the locals are all leaving NZ - because the cost of living has far outstripped the ability to pay for it. Same with the US. You also couldnt pay me enough to want to live in a desert

you might make 40% of what the US equivalent makes, but the US is far, far, far more expensive to live and the cost of living would eat that up in a shot
