Where do you shop for a good sundress?

I usually buy more "modest" styles to block out the sun; I'm very pale and burn easily. I'm also on the smaller end of plus size (22/24). I like dresses from: - Seasalt Cornwall - H&M (although I find their sizing isn't particularly generous in the bust, so you might need to size up by one) - Marks and Spencer - Yours (a lot of their stuff is just sized up Primark crap, but I've gotten some real gems as well) - Joe Browns (I size up by one for more room in the chest) - Even the supermarket clothes brands can be good. I've had the best luck with TU/Sainsbury's, but YMMV. I've been shopping on Vinted recently and picked up a bunch of nice cotton and linen dresses for great prices, so pop your size(s) into Vinted and see what you find.

What would you do if you found a bank card on the street?

Posted by Rich-Item5337@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 296 comments

I've done it when I've found cards before. You just have to explain you found their card dropped in the street, give the details the bank asks for, and the bank takes it from there and tells you to destroy the card.

CherryLeafy101@reddit

I've found several over the last couple of years. I just call the number on the back, tell the bank I found someone's dropped card and give them the details they ask for, and destroy it as they request. The bank blocks the card and arranges a new one to be sent out to the person who dropped it.

Depends on where you live I think. Tap water around Watford tastes grim, like stale old pennies. And packaged water tastes bad too: canned water or water from a carton always tastes like the container it came in, and bottled water always tastes of cleaning chemicals to me, or has an unpleasant metallic taste.

If work gave you a gift card as a perk, where would you actually want it to be from?

Amazon, a chain coffee shop (Starbucks preferred in my case but I wouldn't be particularly bothered if it was for another one), or for a mid-range restaurant likely to be found on most high streets. Maybe a Steam or Nintendo card, if allowed? Basically, something suitably generic that I can easily buy something tasty or order something from one of my hobbies myself.

I eat at my desk but I don't work. My company rents a desk for me at an office space and the kitchen/break room is utter shite, so I don't use it beyond boiling the kettle, using the microwave, etc.

Do you think charity shop price's are unjustified?

Posted by hanslandaa_@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 503 comments

CherryLeafy101@reddit

I avoid shopping at charity shops these days. My local ones are full of fast fashion tat from the likes of SHEIN and Primark, and the prices are close to what the items would cost new. I've even picked things up, seen the Primark tag still on with the price, and seen a price label from the shop trying to charge more than Primark did. All the interesting stuff seems to either be sold through eBay or sent to shops in well-off areas. 🙄 If I want decent used goods, I shop on eBay. Sometimes I'll end up buying something through a charity's eBay shop, but I don't go out of my way to.

I swear to god a seagull tried to kill me once. I lived in Southampton while at uni, only 2 or 3 roads away from the sea. One day I was just coming up to the entrance to my flat block and this big clump of shells smashed on the ground in front of my foot. I looked up and saw a seagull flying off. So I'm pretty sure a seagull tried to drop something on my head 😑

Is living year round in a tent in the UK actually realistic?

Posted by Far-Piccolo-3774@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 837 comments

CherryLeafy101@reddit

Living in something that isn't a fully fitted house is difficult. I don't live in a tent, but I do live in a narrowboat with only the most basic facilities so have some experience with unconventional living arrangements. - You'll need to be really careful about the weather and pitching in spots where you won't be absolutely battered by wind, rain, etc. - You'll need to figure out how not to boil in summer and not freeze in winter, and constantly buying fuel for heating and cooking gets expensive quickly. Depending on where you pitch up, you might not be able to scavenge wood for burning. - You're limited in what you can cook and buying pre-prepared food and/or eating out regularly gets expensive fast. - You'll need to figure out how to regularly use the toilet without causing issues. You need to dispose of your bodily waste responsibly, or be pitched somewhat near a public building with a toilet. - You'll need to figure out a charging arrangement for your phone and any other electronics you need, probably using power banks. So you'll either need to be able to charge them at work or regularly occupy a booth at a nearby Wetherspoons or similar. - You'll need to live out of your backpack, so you'll need to choose your clothes and supplies extremely efficiently. - You'll need to figure out regular showers and clothes washing. So at minimum you'll need a gym membership and to be somewhat near a launderette. - You'll have very little, if any, space for home comforts

I'll eat some of the common cheeses available in supermarkets (cheddar, red Leicester, mozzarella, feta, maybe some garlic soft cheese roulade if I'm feeling fancy), but anything more exotic I regard with extreme suspicion. Cheese sauce can get in the bin. That stuff is an abomination.

The sauce is the terrible part to me. It's weirdly sweet and seems like a tomato was only waved at it from several rooms away. If baked beans came in something like pasta sauce as standard, I'd probably like them.

Even flavoured fizzy drinks bother me to some degree. I have to open them and let some of the fizz dissipate. If I go somewhere with those Coca Cola Freestyle machines I always choose the flat Fanta (equal mix strawberry and peach with a dash of the lemon to top it off is the best).

CherryLeafy101@reddit

I don't care. If you need a piss, you need a piss. I regularly go in the men's room if the women's is busy and nobody would question if I'm a cisgender woman. Nobody has ever gotten mad about it, I guess they just assume the women's is out of order or the queue is a mile long and I couldn't wait any longer (usually the case to fair 😅). Although with all the scaremongering around "men in women's bathrooms" 🙄, I'm not sure that would be the reaction if the genders were reversed.

I think there should be a rule that shop fronts have to be kept clean, well-maintained, and free of excessive clutter. I look at some of my local shops and they look like a bomb site. They could be selling the best products in the world but, if it looks like nobody has cleaned the windows for 30 years and their displays spill halfway across the pavement, I'm not shopping there for love nor money.

CherryLeafy101@reddit

That's not allowed. If they're making you stay late then that would count as worked time and you should be paid for it. So I'm very sure they're committing a violation of the national minimum wage rules. You can report it to HMRC. There are hefty fines for companies that break the rules, they can be forced by HMRC to give you back pay, named and shamed by HMRC, and the audit itself is a horrible process for companies to deal with.

I hated having to do the class read-alongs. In the end, I got so sick of it that I spoiled the ending in front of the whole class and angered my teacher to no end. I hated English lessons as a whole. I was in the top set and there were 3-4 of us who were well ahead of everyone else. We constantly had to wait for everyone else to catch up or spend half an hour making the connections we'd figured out in five minutes. It was painful.

Family drama and lack of family. - My mother's side of the family practically disowned me around 10 years ago because of family problems I couldn't do anything about, but because I'm my mother's child I was collateral damage. I've had a couple of merry Christmas/happy birthday texts from my grandmother but that's it. - My father is dead (no loss to the world, but I don't know most of my family so not ideal). I've never met his side of the family because they're mostly elderly and live abroad. - Usually I would go to my boyfriend's for Christmas, but despite us not being married his mother still manages to be the mother-in-law from hell. We've had a strained relationship for most of my relationship with him, and it finally came to a head over the summer. So I didn't get a Christmas invite up there this year.

Young people, how can you tell if an image was created with AI?

- Hands that look like an unholy abomination: too many/too few fingers, hands coming out of hands, split fingers, etc. Apparently the models are getting better at not doing this, but it still happens sometimes. Also look for melted faces, especially in background people. - Excessive perfection: shapes being too perfect, skin being too smooth, a general sense that it's a bit too perfect - Weird lighting and shadows: it's hard to explain exactly why, but when you look at the images, the lighting and shadows just look... wrong. - AI halo: Related to lighting, you might notice things have a weird halo that doesn't really make sense - Weird colours: this is similar to the lighting. When you look at AI images there's something about the colours that tends to look not quite right, especially in cartoons/illustrations. Again, I can't tell you what exactly it is, you just get a feel for it eventually. - Weird abstract backgrounds: I tend to see this in adverts and similar. You know how in some ads they have a product in front of a big paint splatter, cloud of coloured powder, gradient glow, pattern of abstract lines/shapes, etc., etc.? AI can generate similar backgrounds but they don't quite make sense. Does it give you a "something's not quite right here" feeling? Probably AI, or at least bad photo editing. - Things don't make sense: the image might look fine at a glance, but look closely at things and see if they actually make sense. I'm part of the knitting and crochet online communities and for us this means checking to see if the stitches look right, whether they follow a logical progression, if the thing could actually be made from those stitches, if knitting needles, crochet hooks, yarn balls, etc., in the images look like something a human could actually use. - Textual errors in images: sometimes it's a minor misspelled word, other times it's like when you try to read the back of a cereal box in a dream and find it's total gibberish
