What is your opinion on 8-bit computers? Do you like it or dont or why you like them? (this time the image is actually a 8bit computer)

I loved the variety, yes you still had ibm and msx standards, but the range of different physical designs and capabilities (often using the same few CPUs) was great. You could have arguments over whether your computer was better than your friends, you could code easily and quickly with whatever flavour of BASIC you had access to, and anything seemed possible. The other part is it seemed like a fairly small startup could design and build a distinctive computer and try to compete. The same is true of software - a kid in his bedroom could genuinely write commercial software on his own machine.

100% Europe. USA is very different culturally, from religious arrangements, to car use, to expectations of employees. If it wasn't for the language there would be no debate

How can you make friends with British people?

Posted by blloomfield@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 285 comments

temujin1976@reddit

I'm British, and probably very unusual, but friends in general are a time and energy sink I don't need to be honest. Happy to be cordial, even jovial, in passing, but the idea of sitting in a pub with other people for an extended period of time sounds incredibly tedious and would probably mean adding work to my schedule later on. Again, I accept I'm somewhat misanthropic, but I don't think I'm the only one.
