You're not conversing, you immediately jumped in with demeaning "look further than your windshield". You already don't care. In return, neither do I. *Google "projection" before crafting your response*. Can't stand dumb assholes who think they're smart.

I'm not saying it never works, I'm sure there are great implementations of it. But I dunno, when the wife was pregnant there were several times where it just wasn't feasible and we had to turn around and go home. I'm a reasonably active adult so it never really occurred to me until I hit me in the face, I was and still am a little bit mad about how handicaps are often overlooked despite best efforts.

I can not stand all these patronizing selfish fucks who think they should dictate how others live based on their own life and nothing else. Same for a lot of urbanization plans who assume you physically can bicycle or walk forever, and these "well my car is enough for me, so it should be enough for everyone". Fuck you OP, look beyond yourself, get real.

Yeah it's more of a race track, if that makes any sense. Clean tarmac, wide, flat, even, sweepy and curvy. Mountain passes are indeed a brief succession of hairpins, but most small roads aren't like that. Hard to put into words, it's more varied, there's more of them, they can be rougher, for sure narrower but such fun, it feels more organic. Do what you can to head out there, get yourself a Michelin paper map and try out the roads highlighted in green. Can't go wrong.

Not sure. Rode the Tail of the Dragon, it doesn't come close to many random *departementale* in France. Don't get me wrong, it is curvy and hilly and fun by american standards. Still a far cry from european small roads.

Regulations Have Killed Fun Cars In Europe

Posted by Funny_things_online@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 866 comments

sjgbfs@reddit

Yeah that's what europeans do. It's a decades old trope. Back when SUVs were pretty much just Range Rovers, Patrols, Land Cruisers. They indeed were less efficient, but it was always a convenient excuse to hate more successful people, which most like to depict as profiteering from the masses. So literally a generation later, people still think SUVs are the bane of everything.

Eh, hating SUVs "for the environment" is a decades old relic at this point. SUVs nowadays are pretty much standard cars with a marginally larger interior and ride height. The impact on fuel economy is negligible, without counting the fact that they are subject to the very same emissions rules are regular cars.

Their go-to-market has been abysmal. I love the EV G and I don't even know if it's on showroom floors, it's bad. All I've seen are a few clips of their 360 party trick, nothing else. And the naming? G580, EQ? Fuck off, name it something recognizable. Reading the article, it's been on sale for a year? wtf? The flop is from MB marketing, not the vehicle itself.

Scout Will Use a Naturally Aspirated VW Engine Made in Mexico

it depends on usage, for us the Volt's EV range is just fine. Outside of road trips, we're on EV 98% of the time. Might not be the case if one's commute is 50mi, obviously. While I agree with /u/Knuda about optimal range, it doesn't seem to translate in real life, the mpg isn't great once the battery is depleted. Overall still massively superior to pure ICE or pure EV from my perspective.

One of the most stunning concept cars of the modern era in my opinion is the 2003 Cadillac Sixteen built as an homage to the original Cadillac V-16 of the 1930's.. This concept is fitted with a massive 13.6L V16 engine and weighs in at over 5,005 lbs!

Well, yes and no. Adhesive is quite commonly used, but usually in conjunction with mechanical fasteners (screws, rivets, clips, etc), and seldom on body panels afaik. Like, a lotus elise chassis is all glued and riveted together.

Specific Case - Repair or get a new car? Which costs should be factored in?

Posted by RoronoaZorro@reddit | Autos | View on Reddit | 15 comments

sjgbfs@reddit

My man, those are very basic maintenance/wear items. You're a very small step away from "the fuel tank is empty, if it was me I'd get a new car". No one can stress enough how these are not *issues*. They're normal wear items. Depending on the specifics of "brakes" and the actual oil leak, 1500 euros could be reasonable as well. I assume they went to an independent garage, not a dealership? The former tend to have better rates and knowledge.
