Is it realistic / feasible to own an EV without home charging in the UK?

Posted by Alicia2022_1@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 60 comments

ramakitty@reddit

Not an answer to OPs question but this really highlights how the government needs to provide some incentive for freeholders of leasehold properties to permit by default charger installation, particularly in big cities where the impact on pollution will be most significant. I don’t have an electric car, or even drive, but I can see how valuable this would be to better air quality, and also increases the value of my property in the long run.

Furry is growing in a big way - the conventions are often booked out, and the London meets are super busy. I think people are starting to see furry-adjacent characters in games, anime, etc..

I wish I could remember - back in the 90's they did ghost tours there, I was a kid at the time. I remember the room being at the end of a long narrow corridor, with the active area directly above the door which entered the room, there was some story about people being kept in cages or locked in the room, which I can't find any reference to online - though it may be clouded by time as it would have been 25 years ago. I remember it being a separate haunting from the Duke of Buckingham's execution, which happened in a courtyard on which the store now stood. There's considerable detail about that one online. I remember in the basement of the store, seeing an area of uncovered ground with a small guardrail around it left with the original flagstones exposed which was the execution spot. I don't remember being particularly creeped out by that one, but the stock room was indeed weird, and seemed to be the focus of reports and stories from staff.

I was staying with my girlfriend at the time in her Victorian house in Coventry, we were sleeping and in the middle of the night, someone burst out laughing in the middle of the room - a single big laugh. I immediately woke up, along with the dog who growled with a really deep growl, and my girlfriend turned to me and said ‘that wasn’t you, was it’. Never experienced anything like that before or after.

With dementia, patterns can be misinterpreted - for example, a black doormat can be seen as a void and people will refuse to step on it - same for swirly carpets, etc.., which the why the decor in dementia-specific care homes tries to avoid patterns. This is more anecdotal but when I was a child I would see faces in everything - door handles and keyholes, fabric patterns, etc - it may be that kids are similarly sensitive to it. Thankfully it’s not so bad as an adult but it’s still there.

East London here - I bought a distilled water maker which boils the water so I get distilled water for my humidifiers, and the residue left behind after 4-5 boils is pretty awful and smells bad, like pinkish brown scale. Even though it's safe, since then, I always filter my water before drinking it,

Why do all UK homes struggle with leaks and damp? How do I avoid it?

We've always loved damp. Cassio Dio writing in around 200AD, on the British: *"They can endure hunger and cold and any kind of hardship; for they plunge into the swamps and exist there for many days with only their heads above water"*
