Related to work travel. I travel internationally often, and with the conflict in the middle east I'm not able to book with Emirates like usual, and now I'm going to lose my status and access to the lounge.

Do you take your kids out of school for a holiday?

Took ours out for 3 weeks in December - eldest in y.2, youngest in nursery (so not affected by the same restrictions and fines). Holiday to Thailand which is more like a return home for us. Lots of time with Thai family, and getting back in touch with their other culture. We spoke to the Head before hand, and had her informal support. Whilst being told it will still be reported and we'll be fined by the council. We knew this, and we're fine with it. Had a great time. But probably wouldn't be doing it again. I feel in y2 it matters less at that age, and next time we'll have 2 kids to take out of school and double the fines.

One of my favorite ever purchases for myself was actually with a similar value voucher. Got myself a good pair of nose cancelling headphones. It's something I would have never splurged my own money on, but not sure I could live without now.

Oooh, at the ripe old age of 36 and male, I actually got a random compliment from a stranger this year. Possibly my first ever. I was at an airport in India ordering a Subway, the young woman in front of me heard me talking English and started chatting - she was considering coming to study at Uni in England and I work in the sector so conversation was easy. The conversation was short however, as she soon received her order and left. But before she got too far she swivels 180 degrees, and drops "oh by the way, you're very nice to look at". Yep, I'll be riding that high for many years to come. We should all be handing out random compliments more frequently, you lovely lot.

I love it. I'm planning an art project journaling the urinals I visit by sketching, drawing, painting them all. Currently have an album of almost 100 images ready to go! Anything that makes a urinals unique I bloody love.

On my feet all day. What are the best comfy shoes to wear?

Hey, sounds like I have your feet! Have you had any luck with more budget friendly options? I've always been disappointed and often left with aching feet. I think next time I'll just need to fork out and put something good on my feet.

To my fellow work-from-home-rs, what essential item could you not do without?

I'd say just do it. It's the easiest, most convenient, and one of the cheapest ways to a good tasting cup of fresh coffee. Like the other comment or mentions, I have several brewers available to me but it's the aeropress that gets the most use.

Why are the majority of craft beers available in Tesco REALLY strong (6.2%-8.5%)?

How do you know someone is British when you are abroad?

Yeh I've had this with SE Asia too. I'm half Thai, and Thais see me as 'foreign' a mile off. Thing is, my Mum is 100% Thai but has lived in England 30 years now. When going back to Thailand she also 100% sticks out as a tourist, which I guess in many ways she is now. Maybe her accent has changed, but it's more to do with appearance, dress, and I think there are mannerisms and behaviours that also have become non 'thai'

I like fancy coffees as much as the next fancy coffee loving guy. But I can't justify paying specialty coffee prices. Also from Costco, my compromise is the Grumpy Mule coffee they now stock in 1kg bags. Very decent coffee at decent prices and better than the other options at Costco that I've tried. Helps that they are a roasters in a small town next door to my sister, she once bought me a bag as a gift, so I was pleasantly surprised when Costco started stocking it.

Last month having bought my first home at the age of 34, I got IDd for expanding foam. Didn't have a clue you'd need ID for that, let alone ever considering I look anything like 18 years old

I had a fair drive recently to see my sister very briefly, she had bought me 2 Lidl chocolate filled doughnuts to take home for me and my wife - we hadn't had them before. I was hungry and caved, so mine didn't make it home. It bloody hit the spot, so the second one didn't make it home either. Don't think my wife knows this story to this day.

What is everyone putting on their Christmas list when you have what you want but people insist on wanting to buy you something?

Think about cheaper things that you enjoy or use regularly. With the higher budget you can get a nicer version/option. Di you like chilli sauce, coffee, beer...anything - you can now get specialty versions. Do you write a lot for work, ask for a fancy pen. Use cheap notebooks, get a nice one. I find this approach makes it much easier to come up with ideas for (still low value) gifts for myself.
