Is it normal to be asked to pay £600 for a "mandatory 1:1 digital device" when starting a public secondary school?

I don't really know what's needed for kids in schools. My gut would also be a cheapo £180 chromebook should be enough. No way they need a £600 ipad with a powerful M4 chip that's charged to the parents. That seems mental.

Any device can have a hardware failure. necdotally my apple hardware has lasted longer. Acutal data on this would be interesting to find the truth. Chromebooks are underpowered from the off and made out of cheap parts and plastic. The chip in the iPad beats even more expensive £400 chromebooks using intel i3-1315U chips by a fair margin. Absolutely blows away equivalently priced chrome books using garbage chips like MediaTek Companio 838.

Depends what you define as cheap. From apples own referb site you can get a 2025 ipad for £280. So about £100 more than a chromebook but will be way better and last longer.

Why is it socially unacceptable for me to not like dogs?

Posted by Facelikeabum@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1930 comments

jeffmorgan1991@reddit

I love dogs but I get why people might not like dogs or just some dogs etc. There is a weird section of people who will judge you heavily for that preference, even if you only say when asked. Some of the comments confirm this. I suspsect most people are normal about people pet preferences while a lound miniority will judge you unfairly.

There is so many reasons and factors there isn’t one thing that will work for everyone. I had same fatigue as you since I was a teenager and it only got worse as I hit my 30s. It turned out to be gluten causing this issue for me in the end.

I image it simply comes down to what you buy and what your priorities are. As Tescos/Sainsbury’s is better in some ways and Aldi/Lild is better in others.

How much do you pay a month for your phone provider and are you happy with it?

£12 a month with EE with discount but they said they would put EU roaming on for me. They didn't I had to pay for my holiday data. I've contacted them about it and they can't add EU roaming to my current plan but can add to a new plan, which would start a new 24m contract. Very frustating.

We manage that easily, but we don't eat meat at home. We eat very cheap meals as well. It really depends on what you like to eat. The average monthly food shop for 2 adults in the UK is £291 on groceries and £99 on eating out.

Just looked up the prices. H&M Polo is £9.99. John Smeldey is £95-145. I would image there is a good middle ground here. Don't buy super cheap but also don't get ripped off by luxary brands.

Can I call the police if somebody is blocking my drive?

Posted by TalosAnthena@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 455 comments

jeffmorgan1991@reddit

We had the police call my mate while we were on holiday because he left his car parked in a legal spot that someone didn't like outside their flat. Police might do something, it's a 101 call not a 999. They might be able to give the owner a call. I guess it depends on who you get and what the local police are like.

Why is it cheaper to drive BY MYSELF than take a train?

Posted by MountainPeaking@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1369 comments

jeffmorgan1991@reddit

It's mental isn't it, I was curiouse because I written off train travel completly due to the cost. I just had a little look on car vs train. I find I also can nearly always park for free if you are smart enough about it and don't mind walking up to 30 minutes or so. I have to walk that to the train station anyway. Cheapest option for us to travel to leeds which is about 250 miles away by car. Train: £145.29 for a return journy. The trravel takes around 5h. That's the cheapest I can find going at undesirable time using a two togather rail card. so it's £72.64 each (plus £35 for the rail card) For me getting to the station takes about 30 minutes plus I would aim to get there sooner so about 45 minutes say. 5 hours and 45 minute travel. Car: My car does around 50mpg so 500 miles at 135 /l petrol is £61.37. If you have a less efficent car doing 40 mpg it's £76.72. So it's £30.60 each. takes around 4 and a half hours.

What outlets do you use instead? I'm trying to use Amazon less but fairly often it's only Ebay that carrys the same product. I check John Lewis and Argos at the moment.

If I am before buying anything off Amazon I'll be checking Argos, Ebay and John Lewis for the same product. If it's the same price or lower I'll get it from them instead. Just don't want Amazon to be the only place as they have already jacked up prices.

Why is protein boosted food so popular right now?

Posted by Swimming_Possible_68@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 757 comments

jeffmorgan1991@reddit

Which is a fair point. It is very possible to hit those goals. You just have to double or triple portion sizes to reach them. As with meat you just often need a single portion at lunch and dinner and you’re sorted. I only cook veggie at home but I supplement with soya protein powder to reach my protein goal as a lifter. Practically when I was eating meat it was way easier.

jeffmorgan1991@reddit

Depends what your needs are daily recommened amount is 55g for men. Per portion tufo is 8-10g. Nuts lets say walnuts as they are some of the best for protain, a recommened serving is 30g so 4.5g of protein. Then lastly the highest protain grain is Kamut which has 6g of protain per 100g serving. Even doubling the servings here hits way lower than recommened amounts. A point of compersion a portion of chicken is 27g of protain which makes it easier to hit protain goals. The amount of food you need to eat to hit the recommened amount while being veggie and not taking supplients is not reasonable. This is made worse when it's shown having more protain is benfital 1g per kg of body weight.

Is hoovering at 9:30 am unreasonable?

Posted by Sharp_Illustrator148@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 908 comments

jeffmorgan1991@reddit

Hoovering is very loud on the downstairs neighbour. It's not unresanble to politely ask your upstairs neighbour to hoover a little later. Hoovering a little later is not exactly a hard compromise to make. Then again if a neighbour asked me and was not piloit I'd just ignore them until they asked in a polite way.
