Doing a build with a 9800x3d and 5070ti and the sites are recommending a PSU that is as low at 750w. Would 750w limit performance on either the CPU or GPU with 750w? I figured the bare minimum would be 800-850w for the 9800x3d and 5070ti combo.

exactly this. currently 5800X3d + 5070 on a corsair RM750x PSU its well in range with headroom. But going any more (newer/hungrier x3d and more than 5070) would aim for 850W base for the same assurances.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Worth hunting down?

its a worth it upgrade for the boost and end stage AM4 but clearly as you know full well - scarcity, and price make it a tough find - or for a decent price. two key ways I see it- 1) If getting one is doable, then yes, do it. If cost is no/barely an issue. 2) if cost is an issue - (and depends wither by 'cant afford it' vs 'its not a good value proposition') then to me id say: \- The cost of the 5800X3D , if it is as much as 2 of the 3 (or maybe greater than 50%) of the next gen AM5: Mobo / CPU / Ram , then prob be willing to wait or spend more and just platform upgrade. I have one, I went from Ryzen 3600 to the 5800X3D, and that was with a 3060ti, now a 5070.

hey all I loved this show - big part of teen life and getting me into quirky animation. and i see the common love and nostalgia for it, and mentions of various versions to find online/youtube I have uploaded good quality of all liquid TV and all Aeon flux episodes, it also has a couple of extras, and aeon flux has commentary audio track also. Its been put just now into an upload site, and you can grab a copy and download it from the link - it will be up for 2 weeks maximum. Each full show list is in a zip file, about 7Gb each [https://gofile.io/d/LotUmn](https://gofile.io/d/LotUmn) Happy to share with other fans, for stuff that is really hard to find and not in circulation anymore If ppl really wanted The Head and the Maxx , I also have those :) Can tee something up. The link is active but files currently uploading, will be ready within 40min of this being posted

SO yes. Because it got the point that turn of radar doesnt matter, we all know the maps too well What we did sometimes was use more RCA AV cables, and hook the output to another TV we would set up, as a clone screen. Then hang a towel over each half of TV (cover one top , one bottom), and play 2v2 sitting at each TV so it was actually 'blind' play. I mean.... so much effort. with booze involved too. All before these things become standard play options and for online play. But it never hits the same as a couch full of players together.

there are so many ways to consider and pick for a SFF case. if cost is the issue, that can knock out some of the big names and premium designs, but I think , rather than give a list, i would suggest, look up some SFF case videos on youtube, and the one suggestion as a starting point is the NR200. its even got its own sub r/NR200

dirtydragondan@reddit

you are most welcome SFF builds are kind of challenge fun, and it mostly is just about some planning, practice and picking the order of items going in, so you can route cables well. zip ties will be your friend, great for lashing the cabling to where you need, and also out of way of any fan blades. Its not really that hard, its just that its not 'ATX big case style where it all fits without trying' . Have a decent cooler that uses the headspace you get, and get some fans in there, and thermals dont have to be an issue at all.

\+1 agree with this. Also, if picking what mobo, what else might the PC be used for - do you NEED other PCIe slots?? Thats a big one to pick for mITX v mATX, since all you get on the ITX is ONE 1x16 for GPU. and so if you have any required peripherals, then its not a best use case option. Really this is about portability, and so I think ITX is the way, and sure there are some extra cost/space+routing considerations, but the premium parameter here is convenience for travel, so thats the way to go in my view I also rock a 2x fan 5070 (MSI shadow) and its great, and small enough to fit in a limited space case. Its nice having a 'cute' PC+ case. I have used 2 silverstone sugo models, but there are a ton of good cases out there and lots of YT channels with vids devoted to tests and builds.

I need some ELI5-style help with GPUs - RTX2060 seems to be dying and I've no idea about a replacement with a tight budget (~$500AUD)

2nd hand 3060 ti on FB marketplace for about 300-350 will be an ok solution for now, i see them on local AU listings NEW, for something decent, and worth the jump in generation and performance lift, under 500 is pretty much a rough go. otherwise... this? 4060 ti I dont think you can hit 5000 series, if its all about nvidia. dirtydragondan@reddit

do you suspect to have regret or that it will happen? if so, why? aside from only wanting something that seems better? 2 fans doesnt underperform. its just that 3 fans can be pushed harder for better cooling, though it may not be tangible in your system and gaming experience. I have the MSI shadow 2x 5070 and its going great. In both ventus and shadow, the 3x just adds more cost but not appreciable uptick, esp not if you have one already. and id rate them all (and checking sites on performance+ reliability) over the zotacs Ps i use the 2x as i have it in a HTPC case with very limited GPU length space, but even if it was large case, i tend to go 2 fan options.

dirtydragondan@reddit

Unsure if already known, but throwing it out for fun fact anyways- Going from 1080 to 2k (1440), is basically the same ratio jump in resolution as going from SD (max 480) to entry level HD (720) \[ 2.0 vs 2.25 fold, so nearly same\] That is why its a really big jump in quality that adds a lot of clarity and sharpness. Then, going 2k (1440) to 4k (2160) is the same relative bump up from 720 to 1080 \[ ratio is 1.5 fold increase instead of \~2\] - it's noticeable, but despite a 75% relative level of this next resolution jump, may not be as visually significant , that depends often on screen type and lighting panel, size etc This is how I have understood it, and for the numbers If wrong anwyhere, ppl feel free to correct me into the dust :) I use a TV for my monitor! So im blasphemous as it is. 4k60 10bit 4:4:4 HDR locked.

To add - not that its required, and ppl love to dig into the 'am i bottlenecking something from CPU/GPU...?) BUT if you are not doing huge upgrades, and sticking at AM4 platform, it may be a worth to aim for something with more oomph than the 5600x, but its a limited option, basically a reg ryzen 7, or if you can get hands on a X3D for a decent price. Will get you more ot go with the 5070.

Yes I made this exact move. (well 3060ti to 5070) and also 1-2 yr before, I went from 3600 to 5800X3D CPU its worth it. its a solid 70-90% boost and increase across pretty much everything, sometimes at double (100%). I got a 2 fan smaller GPU for my tight fit HTPC case, and even with that - it stays pretty cool and quiet (when pushed its still only hitting at \~70c) On a 750 gold PSU. 650W can still handle your setup, esp if not a ton of other stuff in the rig.

VIctory!!! Or partly. If you couldnt even get past, or see boot up, and now you can, it prob means this is the issue as expected (GPU seating, and not a bum GPU) , but it may still need more metal manipulation to just get the final push in- from what i know, and experience, its not A MUST, but it is still kinda expected to get some kind of audible CLICK when its all way in. Did you get that? Maybe a further fin bend, and another re-seat Extra info: I had just this exact issue when I got my GPU. Nearly tore my hair out trying to fix coz id convinced mysself it was 'IN' since i pretty much couldnt push down any harder. So i did all these other checks (change CABLES, HDMI vs DP out, DDU/Driver playing, BIOS PCIe settings playing. As I didnt have another rig I could test this in, and no friend had a suitable rig, I wasnt able to even tell if it was a dead on arrival GPU or not. I ended up in desperation going to where I bought the card, as they can do a test bench, I wanted that more than y to complain, or suggest GPU was dead, or ven hear troubleshooting as I was sure if tried way more than basic stuff, and what I will get told. So they put in on the test rig - its working immediately. So its a good GPU. we discuss why I get on output . They say pprob still most basics like - NOT Seated, or, did I do the power rails from PSU right. **So to what you asked - they told me, it IS possible i can have a non seated GPU to get output, but enough to light up, and be powered, so it looks like its on (and fans spinning - which i had )** So, it can potentially boot (other ppl correct me if im wrong, im far from expert i jsut had this same issue) but you just wont see it, and that makes it still functionally pointless. The goal is to get it correct powered, correct seated m correct output cable and it would just be all good to go . Try some more seating fiddling. IF that def clicks in and you see nothing still, its time to check other things

5070ti not fitting into PCIE slot

Posted by MangoClient@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 5 comments

dirtydragondan@reddit

OP to check - The actual PCIe insert part that goes into the slot - the part that is closest to the back of the case, isnt going in? So then is an issue of the GPU not getting fully seated, so you wont get contact and an output I had this issue with a 5070, despite puttting way more pressure and force DOWN on the card than I was happy about Solution? The metal fins at the mounting IO Panel of the GPU that poke out the back when you screw it into the back, were making contact with the little slot on the case, basically blocking from full GPU seating Just do a check that this isnt the issue Use some pliers or any suitable tool to alter the angle of the fins or on the case, some wiggle to see if it permits a better push down seating Let us know how it goes!

I think its commendable that you offered these insights - and also that you can recognize where you have maybe gone by vibes -its not that its wrong/evil, but its clearly ont as reliable as real data. So it van be useful to thne weight up the idea of NEED vs WANT. When you cna get access to, and afford newer parts - no harm in going for it, even when its overkill, esp if it makes you happy. As long as you ideally can separate out what was a need or a want. I also say all this because its so so so easy (like just about any other material good area ) to be influenced by the talk on a place like this, tech and device sites and reviews, YT vids of newest things.. we are human after all . It is just good to check in on the actual use case and what the stats say. relevant , but side point - you always of course always want to ensure you are getting the most out of your gear - so in this case, the best you squeeze out from the hardware, through tweaks, software etc. I have for my 5800x and 5800X3D, PBO2 on with undervolt and OC and a really good clean setup. always try to consider these types of things too. In the end - we want more and newer stuff -go that way when its truly going to make a diff. If thats now, then let it be now

you could have literally entered my mind and said what I am thinking. also - this: "I have 2 AM4 pc's as well, one with a 5800x and one with a 5800x3d. " that is SAME for me ! HTPC is the 5800X3D with 5070 (was 3060 with 3060ti , step wise upgrades, also 32 to 64Gb RAM) - Used for all media playing, gaming (console emulation also) Other is a Workstation for well, work, but its not more than MS Office/light graphics design/data work, web time. 5800X with the older 3060ti & also 64Gb RAM (was a 1660 Su, and the whole rig replaced a mega old 3rd gen Intel build with 750 ti) Both of these run so well, clean win10 OS, minimal system crap and bloat, have been stepwise upgrades since 2020 (where both rigs were replaced out from the i3/i7 3rd gen builds ) . So despite being 1-2 gens behind in AMD, they run great and i figure, why change, prior builds went for about 7-8yrs, im on 4-5 now, sure can make it to AM6.

Counter Q to OP - what are you using (metrics vs vibes) to determine there is CPU bottleneck? Data goes a long way. Some might, its the only thing that goes all the way. I have 2 PCs on AM4 and havent felt a need to upgrade. Main point being - I have a 5070 as of 5 months ago, running with a 5800X3D and I dont decent any kind of slow down, low FPS, or issues. I am fully aware that your AM4 runway is small - only the same CPU or the 5700x3D ,, all of which hard to ever find now. Due to this, AM5 upgrade seems more imminent and sooner, (ouch on DDR5.. ) but its good to confirm what your CPU is doing that lacks. even a 5800X alone could be a bump up without going whole platform

This show is amazing and so wise beyond its first look. Certainly some of the best voice work and character development But one that that stuck with me and I use to THIS DAY, as a LEGIT 'mediation/discussion/conflict resolve' process- There is the episode (S02E06) where Brendan goes with his Dad and Dad's GF Linda to therapy. And they are shown 'Gentle Talk' about how to soften and better express your need and not use hard words expressions by saying " I think you SHOULD...." And to say: "I think it would be in your best interest, to...." Its simultaneously laughable (in the form shown on the episode with the nebbish but pushy therapist) and so trite, and its basically 'I feel' statements modified, and within a silly show, but it's actually been incredibly useful, over many yrs, in this or slight modified forms, as a pattern of 'expectation management', that is effective in telling others what you need/want/have to say For those wanting it in action- with chopped up scenes for some example and context, link to things , didnt wanna upload all the whole episode of my own copy. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nS-UYA6cz1U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nS-UYA6cz1U) Ever since Dr Katz, the whole process of shows that evolved, with Loren Bouchard helming , through to Bobs Burgers has been awesome. But home movies has something in that really was a high watermark of story telling.

What IanMo55 said - both are ok and can work but id go with the Corsair since it works so well with AMD CPU fiigured id make a reply coz i have one build with EACH. PC1 is a work PC PC2 is a HTPC for media, games originally had: PC1 - R7 5800x + GSkill Ripjaw V : 32Gb 3200Mhz CL16 (2x 16) PC2 - R5 3600 + GSkill Ripjaw V : 32Gb 3200Mhz CL16 (2x 16) got an upgrade for in each (one with CPU, and also RAM), so now it is : PC1 - R7 5800x + Corsair LPX 64Gb 3600Mhz CL18 (2x 32) --> doubled RAM PC2 - R7 5600X3D + GSkill Ripjaw V : 64Gb 3200Mhz CL16 (4x 16) --> doubled RAM by absorbing the other. so what do i find - both are excellent. If i had the new 2x 32 kit at 3600 WITH CL16 it would be legit quicker but I sitll find at CL18 (I know its seen as a more equiv higher clock , higher latency ) its super reliable, nice n fast. long way around to say - go either, but I think corsair was a better price when id looked (a year ago... so.. ), and trident vs ripjaws in Gskill prob not a big deal or worth it.
