Prom memories

Our senior prom was at a country club; I don’t know why. We rolled up to the pre-dance dinner late after clambaking my friend’s dad’s Suburban, and all the tables in the main room were full so we got to eat off in a different room where there were no teachers to notice that we were super high. We giggled like monkeys all through dinner and had fun dancing with everyone after that.  Several kids got in trouble at the end of the dance because the teachers were breathalizing everyone as they left; I remember being SO happy that they had no such device that would notify them about weed consumption!

I used to think animals wearing clothing was the dumbest thing ever, and now I’m all, “LOOK AT THAT DAPPER LITTLE GENTLEMAN!” when I see a pug in a sweater.

Well, I mean, he's Preston. It's Preston. Ya know?

Xennial comfort movie

Field of Dreams is the most comforting movie of all time. I don’t even care about baseball! I watched it again not too long ago, and there’s something about the fact that the main character is earnestly following a dream and his wife doesn’t give him any shit about it, the big quiet sunset skies, and honestly probably James Earl Jones’ voice. If you haven’t seen it in a while I would highly recommend!!

I tried! My hair is dark so it came out more burgundy, and looked purple in the sun.  In recent years I started using henna and it turns my many greys into this shade as highlights!

I haven’t seen one yet, and the fact that some of y’all have gives me hope that it will happen. I also am genuinely SO delighted to learn that I am not the only person who is looking for whales out of plane windows!

This is *still* on my wall, and come to think of it is the exact one I bought at the poster fair in college (on nice thick posterboard!), but now it is fine, and fancy and grown up, because it is in a frame. In the immortal words of Larry David, I AM AN ADULT!

I got in trouble for wearing this to school in the 5th Grade.

My school’s dress code for girls was that we just couldn’t wear jeans (boys had to wear button downs w/ ties or polos), so as a rebellious little hippie I would sometimes wear patchwork pants, which were *technically* within dress code being corduroy. My English teacher called me out, though, when I wore the ones with big appliqué mushrooms going down the sides. I had never done psychedelics at this point but knew what they were, and just played maddeningly dumb - “I just love mushrooms in the forest because they are part of nature!” I don’t think I ever wore those to school again though.

The Geo brand really was '90s AF. I used to think the Tracker was so cool.

This was the car I learned to drive in and the first one I drove regularly once I had my license! I always wanted to enjoy it being a convertible but that involved un-velcroing and un-zipping in so many places that it just didn’t feel worth it.

There were these dolls that folded up into cupcakes and smelled like sugary treats.  Also the ninja turtle that came with ooze and would “turn back into” a baby turtle.  I am sure that because I didn’t actually have these toys, they live on as way more magical in my mind than they probably really were! 😅

I really wanted a playhouse, and I finally got one from a neighborhood friend who moved away! But wasps quickly built a nest in it, and my parents told me that I needed to figure it out and get them out of it myself if I wanted to use it. I am only now, as an adult, recognizing a big WTF why wouldn’t they deal with that for me?! I was 3.

Once in 8th grade the dj played Benny Goodman’s Sing Sing Sing and my crush and I, who were both goofy nerds with a penchant for hamming it up, did some crazy swing dancing while everyone gathered around us and cheered at the end. This was an insanely surreal moment and now feels like a dream.

OMG I put SO much money into playing this game in the (restaurant?) lobby of the Caribbean resort at Disney World in 1993! I was in 3rd grade and remember now that I just kept dying so fast and was getting so frustrated, but had never seen anything like it before so kept begging my mom for more quarters. Thanks for unlocking a memory!

Dragnet was so out of place (such an DRAG) among all of the other good funny shows! It was on right before Get Smart, and it was so hard to stay awake through that slow slog to get to my favorite show!!

Unpopular opinion: to me Field of Dreams is boring, sappy, Boomer navel gazing and I don’t like it… Happy for those who enjoy it! But anyone else feel like me?

I’m not even a baseball person, but I watched it again recently and remembered why I loved it. It’s just..dreamlike. There’s a lot of big, beautiful glowing sky. The ending shot is so pretty and hopeful, like all of these people will just do what sounds totally crazy because they believe in a dream. James Earl Jones is great. I actually really liked that Annie was so supportive of Ray and didn’t try to talk him out of it. Definitely agree with you about the brother though; that whole aspect of the film felt like an odd addition.
