Snoopy snow cone maker. In true 80’s fashion my parents said they had too much sugar in them

If it helps, they never quite worked as advertised. My pipe dream was an easy bake oven. As an adult I bought one for my “kids” (coverup for buying for myself) and it was exactly what my parents said it would be. Crap. A lightbulb heating up a cookie the size of a penny.

i remember the easy bake oven mcdonald's set (or some other toy kitchen co-branded with mcd's) and you could press this thing into a slice of bread to get "fries" which.... surely couldn't have tasted like real fries? i know they didn't. but i wanted the playset anyway

There are Instagram and YouTube accounts dedicated to vintage toys and I’ve seen this McDonals thing a few times. I’ve lost hours of my life watching those trips down memory lane.

I had both a Snoopy Snow Cone Maker and an Easy Bake Oven and I enjoyed both of them. Yes, the treats from the Easy Bake Oven were small, but I thought they were very tasty. The lightbulb baked them well enough. I don't recall using it much, possibly because my mom didn't buy refills. But, I liked it when we used it. I remember using the Snoopy Snow Cone machine summer after summer. I think we flavored the ice with Kool-Aid when we ran out of whatever we were supposed to use with it. But, if I recall correctly, we had to throw it out when it got moldy.

I had the boys' equivalent, the "Creepy Crawlers" machine where you would pour a gel into a mold of various bugs and "bake" them. It was a crappy toy that made crappier toys!
View on Reddit #32270002

I got an Easy bake oven when I was 8. And, me and Mom got 2nd degree burns from it. The little handle to insert and pick up the tin cake pan was defective and mom and I got boiling hot liquefied chocolate cake batter on our thighs and arms. We spent part of Christian in the ER and the Easy Bake oven went into the crawlspace for years.

Xennial buddy of mine bought one for himself last year. We made snow cones, it was fucking glorious. But it’s noisy as hell, inconvenient, silly looking, and snow cones don’t, like, taste very good… but I didn’t and don’t care

My little sister wanted one so badly as a kid but for whatever reason never got one (I think my mom couldn’t find one or something). My brother and I went on EBay and got her one for her 18th birthday. She still has it.

View on Reddit #32187820

I wanted one of those so bad, but it just wasn't in my parents' budget. My babysitter had one that I did get to drive occasionally, but she didn't let us take it out very often. It belonged to her own kids, so I'm sure she didn't want it to get ruined. Plus, everyone was always fighting for their turn on it, so I'm sure it was a bit of a headache for her. Understandable, in hindsight, but back then, it felt like an injustice.

Ped ped pedal wheels. My pre-powerwheel jeep looked much like a powerwheels from a distance, but instead of being 12V powered there was an impossibly small set of pedals underneath the dash. I would just drive it down the driveway and push it back up.

View on Reddit #32189258

FreezingRobot@reddit

I bought one for my son about a decade ago, and there were warnings all over it that said DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH PUDDLES so I'm imagining that's probably what happened to most of the ones you're thinking about. Also my son used his non-stop, even though it was just going around the yard at around \~3MPH. I imagine that would get boring quick for a lot of kids.

I saw a youtube of a guy that was gonna drive from like LA to SF or something dumb on a highly modified power wheels. He got a lot further than I expected, several miles IIRC. Looked fun, but looked intoxicated too lol

View on Reddit #32239653

That’s probably because the old 90’s commercials had kids driving straight through mud puddles which is not what you do with a battery powered plastic car.

I have a 20-mo nephew and I am noticing how cheap Power Wheels are right now. They even have remote control and other little features we didn't have. There is a 200% chance I am gonna overclock and overbattery one of those things in a brilliant attempt to reclaim my own impoverished and misspent youth. Hmm it'll need a working ratchet winch for starters...
View on Reddit #32205751

That sounds amazing would have loved to see kids in my neighborhood cruising around with a suped up Power Wheel especially the Knight Rider one, I remember it could fit two smaller kids in. I just had a M.A.S.K Big Wheel
View on Reddit #32192003

I don't think mine was one of the branded ones like MASK or Knight Rider. I remember it was a red three wheeled ATV type cycle, plastic wheels would spin with the added power so had to glue rubber to it to give it traction again : )

View on Reddit #32204712

Good luck! I have never looked but I am sure there has to be people out there who’ve fixed/refurbished them, would seem like a scooter/moped battery and a battery tender would be a big help for one of those.

My parents said the same thing about getting a Grumpy Care Bear and a Glo Worm. Apparently, they would turn me gay or make the neighbors talk bad about them, so I got a whoopin' and was told never to ask for "girl toys" again. I can only imagine the outrage (or literal ass beating I would've taken) if I had asked for My Buddy. My wife corrected this injustice in the last couple of years. She purchased both for me. I cherish her and those gifts more than anyone could possibly imagine. Virtual bro hug, u/bors713 . I hope you do yourself a solid and go buy a My Buddy. After dad moved out of our for bed 2.5 bathroom house into a crappy two bedroom apartment, he got me the USS *Flagg*. It took up almost the entire floor of the bedroom I shared with my brother, good thing we had a bunkbed. When he remarried and got a new house my brother and I still shared a bedroom since we were only supposed to be there like every other weekend and half of vacations (I stopped going pretty much immediately. But anyway.) The *Flagg* was relegated to dark unfinished room in the basement and basically never got played with, also because all the toys that I would've made it with that set or at mom's house ofc.

Teddy Ruxpin was my first buyer’s remorse. Sold a bunch of toys at a garage sale to raise money for it. My stepdad was an interesting man. He had two daughters, one from an affair his late wife had had before they married, who he adopted, and one that was biologically his. When year for Christmas they adopted daughter got a waterbed, his biological daughter got a quarter horse gelding. His rationale was that he'd given both girls what they asked for, my mom was like, and you never stopped to think about the discrepancy when you were writing checks? Another year my mom had hunted far and wide to find an affordable open box Sony Trinitron that matched the specifications I needed for some piece of AV gear I wanted hook up to it. She finally found it at a decent price with minor scratches and dents. Stepdad saw it and realized it was a better TV than the Sylvania or whatever larger but crappy TV he'd bought new for their bedroom and tried to pressure my mom into swapping it, so that I would get a brand new TV that didn't actually do what I needed it to do and they would get the better Sony… She refused.

I always thought those bobble fish that would go up and down you had to catch with a pole were pretty cool. Also that one toy where it was a penguin or dinosaur I forget. It would go up the stairs and then roll back down and repeat over and over. You would see both these fish and stair toys at the front of Kaybee Toys all the time.

An NES. My mom claimed that it was because they were too expensive (we were pretty poor to begin with), but even the other kids where we lived got one and now I wonder if it was because she thought that video games would "rot my brain". We never got the Flag so me and my friend enterprised and built our own out of cardboard from refrigerator boxes. X-mas lights for landing lights, bread ties for radar, even “working elevators” made out of string and LEGO wheels. It took us a couple days and was arguably bigger than the toy. His Dad wasn’t pleased by the size of this crude construction but after all the work we put into it Mom wasn’t going to let it get thrown out. Stayed in that basement for weeks. Thinking back on it our home built version was better than anything that could have been bought.
