The one that causes the least headache for your hardware. Or if you work in a team, the one that everyone else is using for standardization.

What's the best alternative to Reddit? I'm getting tired of the bots and harassment army that comes in when you post something that goes against their agenda.

Posted by hereswhatworks@reddit | RedditAlternatives | View on Reddit | 79 comments

bripod@reddit

It looks like you have plenty of other up votes on other threads or topics. To me that seems pretty niche even for a bot. Reddit is a just another dumb website, who tf cares. Maybe go hike a mountain, ride a bike, go to a bar and talk to a human, change your oil and brakes, and quit wasting time trying to get approval from robots or people who don't know or care.

I have it and actively like it. Especially good for diesels so the DPF doesn't fill up as quickly. I also don't like breathing in fumes especially while biking around and sitting at a stop light. And for those that don't like me biking on streets, yeah me too, but it's the only legal way often times and you should advocate your local councils to separate traffic.

Atmos Bill

Posted by Pizzaprincezz@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 69 comments

bripod@reddit

Atmos only checks your meter read date maybe 4 times a year so they go based off estimates of history and previous months. So your bill could be artificially low for a couple months, they check it, and tack on all your usage on to one month. And then they charge you a meter read fee every month even though they don't read the meter every month which is frustrating.

Linux vs macOS: after 20 years of trying, I still can’t make Linux work long-term

Posted by aescat@reddit | linux | View on Reddit | 154 comments

bripod@reddit

Just moved from a Dell Latitude 5530 to a Macbook Pro M1 Max and couldn't be happier. The quality, the battery life, the consistency (with keyboard shortcuts), the flexibility with homebrew, just make it a dream. I had nothing but problems with the dell w/ ubuntu. IMO the only way to make Linux work well, particularly in a laptop, is to buy the hardware directly from the OS vendor like System76 or Tuxedo. Otherwise it'll run like garbage, with maybe exception to a Lenovo thinkpad but I got on their subreddit and ppl still report problems. The individual hardware components on the Dell are dogshit for how much they charge for that machine and the kernel drivers for that just don't work well enough for a properly working machine.

I don't think the HK416 is known as "cheap". It makes a lot of logistical sense as that's what Germany is also moving to. It'll work with same mags, any ammo, any suppressor, in any environment, all of which are valuable if having to work with NATO. The FAMAS was kind of problematic as it kind of needs to use its own steel-cased ammo and mags negating a lot of the logistical benefit of 5.56 and wouldn't be nearly as adaptable of using different kinds of ammunition or suppressors.

There were conservative elements brewing in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century due to being the "sick man of Europe". This led to a part of ottomans to get really conservative and nationalist to fix their problems whereas their European peers were modernizing everything via industrialization. At the same time Wahhabism has just started and is spreading throughout the Gulf. Half century later when oil is found and the Ottoman Empire is over, the power shifts to the oil producing countries that have gone full Wahhab.

I don't think it's all union labor at fault either. The individual components on various parts just break faster than Japanese cars in my case so some other corners are cut in quality of their suppliers. In my case: Starter goes out, AC failure, u joint goes out, power steering housing leaks, front differential out, ball joints etc., most of this happening under 100k miles. I drive my subaru to almost 200k and the only major thing I've done is replacing the struts.

Honda seems to have iterative design changes over the years instead of massive overhauls, is this correct? I like the idea of these Hondas but I try to get a 2 year old model from a refresh but by that time they've done at least a facelift or some upgrades. Is this one of the smaller changes or a major redesign?

Nope. Jack Welch was the CEO and vampire/parasite of GE, drained the corporation of all its assets making insane short-term moves to boost profits for next quarter which please shareholders despite long-term losses. It seems this method has caught on in business schools so it's the general playbook now. Corporations don't make products or support their employees; their raison d'etre is to make line go up (for next quarter) and that is the only thing they do now.

"Support" is a terrible work environment. Essentially the managers have to push the workers to do more with consistently less resources. Workers are always demoralized, managers have to implement metrics, workers game the metrics to their favor. The business is to offer bare minimum support but spend as few resources to actually provide it because it's a cost-center affecting profit margin.

As a fellow biker that has moved outside of the white rock area, is suggest finding a bike group by Facebook or meet ups to find a group that can work with you. We have to start early am or evenings evenings in summer. Disc golf is great for shoulder or winter seasons. If you want to be outside in great, find your body of water of choice. Other than that, video games. Drinking at deep ellum is pretty ok.

They'd have to get a massive loan to expand their product offerings for a brand new largely interested and unproven method of travel for the US. They're already scraping by as is and it would be a massive financial risk for them as well as any hypothetical bank so it's cheaper and more effective for them to just lobby to kill it. Like Exxon does with oil and not pivoting to renewable or nuclear energy. Whatever gets better next quarter returns us what they're going to do, long term future be damned.

One party supports a white-supremacist fascist theocracy and appears hell-bent to achieve that goal, including aiding the Jan6 insurrection. The other party has some loyalty to a pluralist society and democracy despite them not caring a whole lot outside their corporate benefactors; this one has not performed, supported, or advocated for anything like a Jan6.
