The Caravan was never a Pacifica variant. They just kept selling the old version that was a sibling to the Town and Country.
Actually a pretty decent deal if you find a used one.
My best friend recently bought one and at first I was thinking “Really?” but I’ve come to really like the thing—versatile, solid, nice to ride in as a passenger and hasn’t given him trouble.
They really are nicer to own than they get credit for. Just an incredibly practical vehicle, and far easier to work on than newer models.
Like I definitely wouldn't buy one of the pre-Fiat models because the interior is terrible and the engine is kinda wheezy, but post-2011 with the new interior and Pentastar engine? Absolutely.
Grand Caravan is sold as Pacifica variant, but only in Canada where it's a stand-in for the Voyager.
The previous model just kept selling in Canada because it was a cheap minivan, and even in its last year it was outselling the Pacifica by a considerable margin.
Not so much anymore, but it's a much nicer vehicle now.
Having this branded as the caravan and the Pacifica as the more luxury option.
I wish they'd figure out the reliability issues with their cars. The Pacifica is actually a great looking van, it's just a simple clean design.
As far as I'm aware the Pacifica isn't any less reliable than its competition, with the exception of the PHEV version, and even that has most of its bugs worked out at this point.
I'll have to mention that to my brother. He's looking for a new vehicle and wants a van but any time we look up anything regarding the reliability, it seems to be people parroting the Chrysler is just universally unreliable.
The chrysler hybrids have this scary thing where the transmission will lock itself errantly. It used to just happen suddenly while driving. Sometime last two years they now provide like a 20 second notice of when it’ll happen.
Pacifica forums have scary stories of dudes stuck in the middle of the freeway stuck because of it. I haven’t checked lately if it was still a thing, but how often it seemed to happen is scary.
Yea my wife got stranded in morning rush hour on the interstate with 4 young kids in our 2021. Not the best look from Chrysler. That was less than 5000 miles into ownership. Chrysler made it right though, we got a loaner while it was repaired and $5000 from them for loss of use during that time (they had the car for 4 months). We still own the car, and at ~60,000 miles it has been problem free ever since.
That's been the case with the big three for a long time now. If it's American it must be unreliable. The truth is a bit more nuanced, and honestly comes down to specific models these days regardless of manufacturer.
Cars in general are also reliable enough these days that an "unreliable" vehicle by ranking may only be a few percentage points off in its failure rate from a leading vehicle. Minivans are like that - when you control for sales numbers and look at how many of them actually end up in the shop, they aren't very different.
Ford has been making lots of reliable cars for a decade now. Their ecoboost engines are the best engine series on the market. I'm open to other ideas but they're reliable, powerful, and a efficient.
I'll embrace it. The van market needs some new life and this could do it. This is an american Delica and I'm 100% for it. The only issue is making these reliable.
They’re in the same boat as Harley Davidson. They can’t innovate because their current customer base won’t accept it. They can’t get new customers because they can’t innovate and their current customer base is shrinking.
This isn’t being fair at all to Ram customers. Lots of people were buying the 2019+ model because it legitimately was better in a lot of ways compared to the other trucks in the segment.
The reason sales have dipped so much is because models like the Laramie went up over $5k 2024->2025 and the limited went up a little more than $10k. They drank way too much of the “luxury truck” cool aid, and way overpriced it. Not to mention, the upcharge for V6->I6TT is way more than what V6->V8 used to be.
Harley has also tricked themselves into thinking they’re a luxury product, but it’s my understanding that their innovative products like the new Sportster and Pan America are doing pretty well. The Pan America in particular is an incredible bike with tons of innovation built in.
Then the entire roof rack would need to be fuel jugs.
I appreciate they left it at a reasonable level on the volume knob instead of cranking it to the level of "hellcat widebody off-road minivan"
That is the perfect way to say you know absolutely nothing about overlanding.
Narrow trails in muddy and rocky terrain with a cliff on one side.
It takes 10hrs to do a 60mile trip.
How much do you think 700hp and being wider than the trail is going to help?
I'm not sure what you're on about, it's a concept car and I didn't mention anything about overlanding and I certainly wouldn't do it in a minivan in any configuration.
Sticking the 392 (6.4) liter v8 in a van would be fucking hillarious too. Only reason I have any serious consideration for the Durango is because of that engine option. I think the 392 is probably more likely than the hellcat motor but either would absolutely sell, reliability be damned.
I think what’s more likely to happen if they were to go for performance though is either a high output v6 or a v6 paired with high output electric motors. Making room for a large v8 could definitely take away from interior space, which might be a bad call when the Pacifica is already struggling vs the other 3 minivans on the market.
I believe the standard 2026 RT has the 392 in it & all the models will be V8 if I’m remembering the info for 2026 right.
I’m not a fan of dodge but I’m a sucker for that engine (my mom’s scat pack challenger has it) and I’m tempted to cross shop the Durango with the vans & SUV’s we’ve been considering (Santa fe, Grand Highlander, Telluride etc.) I’m really doubtful we will ever be towing much so a lot of the capability of the Durango is a lost on us.
I think this one has some chance, it’s really just a lift kit on the current old minivan, right? Calling it a “concept car” is a bit rich, but I think this has a real chance of being put to market.
Jeep routinely releases several concepts around Easter of more traditional concepts designed from the ground up, as well as heavily modified current gen models. Those modified concepts rarely see much carried over to production. I imagine that is what will happen with this Pacifica concept.
Stay away from the hybrid and change the trans fluid every 50k, and they are really pretty good. A lot of haters out there, but they’re typically people with no direct experience.
You take that back, it only took them. 7 years to fix all the problems in my gladiator to finally produce a solid 3.6 that doesn’t have issues, for a motor that’s been around since 2012.
They seem to go around 200k ish. I’ve seen so so many with warped heads. Very very common issue with the oil filter housing failing and leaking shit tons of coolant causing the head to be starved and warp.
As far as I know they still haven’t moved to a metal housing. At least on the last 23 Cherokee I saw they didn’t.
Fix that though and they seem pretty good. Had a Cherokee with one after we replaced the engine and it was a great car and it’s still going around. Original engine died due to said oil filter issue.
Reliability costs real money. This concept vehicle is something you write a check to a design house and they deliver a prototype that generates a bunch of buzz, but you never have to execute on.
Nah, if they started making reliable cars they wouldn’t gain any customers because none of the reliability oriented buyers would trust that Stellantis made an actually reliable product.
Pretty sure the only “reliable” vehicles they make (at least in the US) are on ancient platforms with police spec variants (Durango), or have heavy duty engines Stellantis was not involved in designing (HD Cummins). And even then apparently the build quality is hit or miss.
They would be better off building a transmission that doesn't give you whiplash. Loved my pacifica 30k in one year but sold. Transmission was awful in town. Regardless of manual relearn and software updates. Only good for the highway SMH.
It’s kind of cool, though I feel like this makes more sense as a Dodge, with a Chrysler version being more like the Lexus LM (which seemingly has no real counterpart here in the US). But that may reflect my outdated ideas of what both brands are supposed to be.
I had a Pacifica (RIP rear ended bad) and I was looking into a Braun ability lift kit and mild A/T tires. A very efficient camping vehicle that could tackle majority of forest service roads with very good efficiency. I think this concept is great. Toyota has the woodland edition sienna and I think this would inject some life into the Pacifica. Too bad it'll never be sold :(
Sure there's potential, but is there a market for it?
Minivans already have a relatively limited marketshare compared to SUVs.
Now shrink that down even further to whose who'd be interested in a rugged version - they're already gravitating towards options like a 4Runner or Lexus GX.
Someone really needs to figure out the way-too-family-friendly brand image of minivans. You can fit an Abram’s tank in the back of one and still get 40 mpgs it’s ridiculous. But no one wants to admit they drive a minivan.
>Someone really needs to figure out the way-too-family-friendly brand image of minivans.
Minivans are haulers with no ground clearance, can't tow and no approach angle. It doesn't matter how much you can fit in the back if you can't leave the city with it because it has less clearance than a ford maverick and a turning radius too big for trails.
I’m not talking about altering any capabilities. I’m just talking about public perception. Manufacturers need to find a way of making its current utility desirable socially.
There's nothing wrong with public perception. They're worse in everyway than a cuv or suv for 9/10 people, which is why 9/10 people don't buy them. Almost no one neads a 7+ seater vehicle. For the people who do, why would they buy one that can't leave the city and go on camping trips? they'll buy a do everything vehicle.

I’d drop the Mustang in a heartbeat for a Ford minivan with the Maverick powertrain. We’ve rented Pacificas and its a far more useful form factor than my wife’s SUV.
The transit is sold in Europe with windows and seats as the tourneo (in connect, custom and full fat transit forms.
Transits drive nice, way more car like than they have any justification to be like

I’m married, I will drive anything, you cannot hurt me anymore. I drive a fucking Ridgeline. Give me a fucking lime green Pacifica with wood paneling and 4WD. Put a sticker of the kid pissing on a Cybertruck on it. Throw in an AARP sticker, I do not care.
> Sure there's potential, but is there a market for it?
Overlanding is totally en vogue right now. There is enough of a market for the Porsche Dakar and even the Lamborghini one. I see an overlanding ready minivan being a smash hit right now with all the hype around overlanding.
> Sure there's potential, but is there a market for it?
Yes? Sort of? Idk where you live but out here in the PNW people are buying up old vans, and importing VW Westfalia's/JDM Vans in droves to kit out into road trip/overlanding vehicles. I feel like theres a real blind spot in the market for customizable vans that people can kit out to either be a family hauler, or a road trip cruiser with different interior bits of camping and what have you.
This. Conceptually an overlandy minivan is pretty cool, but it would probably be atrociously expensive and have less offroady capability than the offroad SUVs it would be fighting with.
The people who are still buying minivans are those who already don't care about the offroady image, and those buying offroady SUVs are the ones who "wouldn't be caught dead in a minivan" 🙄. Ultimately the market share for something like this is slim to none
There is already at least one entrant: Toyota Sienna Woodland. Comes with "off road" suspension, a small lift, and standard AWD. There is also a very popular lift you can buy, 2", 3", or 4" and people who fit them with AT tires report they're pretty capable off road.
Yuk I wouldn't own a chrysler ever. Unless it's an old one, I love old mopars. Chrysler turned to shit in the early 80s. #1 Ford
2 Chevy
3 Foreign
4 foreign
5 foreign
6 foreign
7 foreign
8 foreign
9 foreign
x20
Finally # 10000000 Dodge Chrysler 😅
Ones who drive these giant rams, only because they're the cheapest.Think they are just something else. I had a couple of Chrysler's. 5th ave awesome, and a grand fury. Awesme, gutless but awesome. Were awesome..Because they were older and I knew what I was looking at. Not the new shit that you can't tell what is what or even how things work really.. All these, new one's really, for Chevy.Chrysler the newer they are the junkier they're getting. Fords are still the best even as others just get even shitier
Chrysler is very reticent to ditch FWD for minivans because it prevents them from installing their party piece: Stow-n-Go. I suppose they could use an electric motor but then where would they put the batteries? Maybe people would give up the flat floor for a V8. But there is no getting around how poorly it would handle, or how impossible it would be to work on. Because regardless of the drive type, it would have to be transverse mounted.
The best time to do this was [30 years ago](https://www.thedrive.com/news/39150/meet-the-90s-dodge-caravan-off-road-minivan-that-almost-made-it-to-production). The second-best time is now.
I really want a “toy hauler” cargo version of a minivan that has some windows and a removable back seat, so it can either be a 5 or 2 seater. Also hybrid with a camping mode. I really thought ford was going to do this with their hybrid in an updated Transit Connect, but it appears not.
Nonstarter for deep exploration in the desert Southwest. Terrible breakover and departure angles combined with trails well-worn by trucks with 33s and larger mean high probability of damage.
For forest roads, just fine.
Fuck that, respectfully.
This is butch pretense, keepin’ up with the muddy Joneses.
It’ll sell, no question. And I will judge the shit out of the buyers.
Um, yeah. Most people will never even take them on those, and justify buying the ruggedized version because it snows occasionally and there's a dirt driveway to the mountain bike trail.
If the approach and breakover angles are enough to avoid scraping the plastic aero underbody thing on the monster speed bump outside the middle school, it's plenty.
Then it’s just mindless consumption of a soulless corporate product.
Which is all I see in the market. Useless vehicle after useless vehicle, but safer than ever because Americans are literally expert at killing themselves and others with cars. We were experiencing declining crash death rates until 2010 and now safety is mentioned prominently when one brings up the number of used options on the market.
For what? To drive down a forest roads a sedan from the 1990s could easily traverse?
The only time I’ve camped in a campground recently, I was surrounded by overland-prepped vehicles. The roads around the campground were graded and in good repair- my M3 wouldn’t have had trouble.
All these vehicles with worse passive safety due to bigger, heavier tires, higher center of gravity, and a tread pattern not optimized for dry braking but stone rejection and mud clearing aren’t furthering road safety for the incredibly infrequent usage the modifications see.
Did someone in marketing [happen to be looking at Hot Wheels](https://shop91898.sfstatic.io/upload_dir/shop/_thumbs/Hot_Wheels_Chrysler_Pacifica_Brown.w1200.jpg)?
Reddit usually likes Chrysler/Dodge vehicles in their features/looks.
Its the reliability which kills them... oh and the dealerships are among the very worst in the business.
I like the idea but I’m not sold that this helps Chryslers cause. Still need to answer wth Chrysler is. Premium, luxury, none of the above? Why isn’t the van a Dodge?
I wonder if with the middle row captains chairs pushed all the way forward there's actually enough room for an average-sized adult to lay down comfortably.
I was unemployed for a few months in 2024 and grabbed a cash job running cars for a dealer network. I must have driven 100 different cars in the span of three months and the Pacifica was an absolute fucking GEM. I've been obsessed with them ever since.

My boss had a rental 2024 Chrysler Pacifica while his Ford Ranger was in the shop.
He’s a 50 year old man with no kids. Just him, his wife, and a dog. He says it’s one of the most comfortable cars he’s ever driven. He actually enjoyed driving it for the week he had it.
This could be a major win. Those off-roading modded Sprinter vans are hella popular right now, and crazy pricey. A smaller, less expensive version, direct from a manufacturer, that you can also use to the kids to soccer practice would be killer.
1) Stellantis and Nissan are both teasing a lot of awesome concept cars / future models. I expect they're trying to make it look like they have a future.
2) I lived out of my car for a while - first when I was dirtbagging around the mountains, then as a park ranger. People often ask me why I didn't get a van or a capped truck or something. My biggest answer? Gas prices.
It takes a few miles of trail to get to a mountain, but then *hundreds* of miles to get to the next trail. And when you're living out of a car, you just drive more. C'est la (chariot de) guerre.
I drove 40,000 miles in 2 years. My sedan got 38.8mpg combined. The approaches to mountains were HAIRY. But the other like 39,800 miles were good - and sometimes GREAT, because canyons and twisties.
My friend's capped Tundra (5.7L) gets 13mpg. I'm told that offroad-build vans are usually gulpers too. That's a delta of around 2000 gallons of fuel - or about $7,000 in just two years. That's a lot of gas-station burritos and new pairs of Altras.
Having a moderately offroady vehicle with decent gas mileage would have been so great. My current Rav4 Prime would have been a SIGNIFICANT improvement. But like, a larger vehicle with a sliding-door access would be even better.
