Civilians on the enterprise -D is a interesting concept

I’m a military brat who lived on a lot of bases in a lot of states and countries. TNG was my first Trek, and the concept of the ship made complete sense to me. Sure there was always the aspect of possible danger, but that’s just what you kind of accept when you are military. Most families like this are never in any danger. Im leaning on the enterprise D was probably a bigger opportunity than the risks are to an exploratory society.

Do you wear sun cream/sun screen every day?

Grew up in the Southwest. Currently in central Florida. I’m of Nordic/German/Scots-Irish descent so I’m translucent white. Yes. We wear it. Even in the northern parts. Especially in the mountain ranges. I don’t have Melanoma money but I do have the gene, so… But yeah, we would get annoyed if a show constantly threw in that step

Who remembers making Sun tea in the 80s? Was this just a Midwest thing?

It’s almost like I was a kid in the 90s who went where her parents took her, and would never repeat that now. Not sure where the brag was, just an anecdote 🤷🏼‍♀️

Are there many of you out there that are angry with their parents over your GenX upbringing?

Mine never took accountability and continued to use their own unhappiness to justify their disdain and neglect of me. We don’t talk anymore and I’m okay with it

I wrote this somewhere on the thread but I’ll never forget reading my Disney Adventures magazine in the nineties and coming across a Best/Worst style article. They had several of our favorites under the “best” category (Clarissa Explains it All, ofc) but on the next page…poor Jake Sisko.

Data, Crusher, River, Troi, and begrudgingly Worf. Picard said no thank you, and Wesley was grounded or something. They never asked Pulaski to join them but she knew

Watched every bit of that trial that I could because my grandma wouldn’t turn it off. I lived in a place where I was a white minority. I was criminal justice minded, and pretty good at puzzles. I had to keep my mouth shut through that whole thing when I was at school. But man, I can remember liking that judge.

What is a show you watched that you are pretty sure noobdy has ever heard of?

I’m there too- earlier than I planned since my littlest moved to her aunts. I never thought I’d be glad I was a young mom, but now I realize I still got energy to go out and explore life on my terms Did you guys have any plans for yourselves once the kids were out?

I have so many European friends that are floored when I try to explain the different cultures that vary state-to-state and the sheer distance I also love explaining to midwestern quirk of driving everywhere and that 9 hours is a medium road trip…

Military brat here who’s also travelled for work. I’ve lived lots of places. Washington State overall (Seattle is a city I’d want to be near, if not in) for well-being Oregon, parts of California are also good, especially in progressive moderate areas. (Corvallis, OR… also Crater Lake is my favorite place there, San Diego CA, Palm Springs, CA) Hawaii but unless you are Native Hawaiian, be mindful of overpopulation Kansas City. Lived there 10+ years. People really overstretch the dangers there- I lived near the “scary” parts but loved my neighbors and so much to do and see in the city. Maybe go for Kansas if you are wanting to live there tho because Missouri as a state is a pretty authoritarian If you don’t mind cold, Duluth or Minneapolis Minnesota. Omaha, Nebraska is trying really hard and inexpensive I cannot speak for the east coast although I’ve been eyeing Maine or Pennsylvania for graduate school I currently live in Florida. Wouldn’t recommend living here but it’s gorgeous for visiting

I don’t know, man, I’m an Elder millennial and all I’ve ever identified with having older siblings and cousins, is Gen X… but the cut off is 81 for this early ‘83, baby I will never ignore you, my friends. I see you. We are the part of the millennial generation that everybody likes to blame.
