Western Express just assigned me a load that has “chargeback”. If it’s late, they charge the driver (me) $200. Is there any truth to this???

How hard is it to actually get your foot in the door?

Posted by Adorable-Goal5926@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 49 comments

ThatOneHelldiver@reddit

Literally easy. I went to Raider Express in Fort Worth TX. The school was free and they pay you to go. There's no contract so you don't have to stay but you're offered a job day one. It is over the road. I quit after 4 days. It just wasn't for me. Got a job running local Flatbed instead and it actually pays more than OTR. My trailer also has a truck mounted forklift. I do deliveries in DFW and going from CDL school directly to driving in one of the worst cities ever was a great challenge but I've been at it 4 years at the same company now and love it. Best thing about running flatbed trailers, I don't have to do much backing 😂 Every once in a while I'll have to back out if an apartment complex.

Residential flatbed here. I had someone buy a single Microwave Lightbulb. (Little bitty) They put it out for delivery on my truck and charged him a $75 delivery fee. It went $15 minutes up the street to his apartment. 😂 The bulb itself was $3.

Funny story during one of yesterdays delivers, I was going along a two lane road that had a round about and a cop was coming towards me, he hit his lights, hit the sirens and pulled a U-turn and go behind me. My life flashed before my eyes. I pull over and he drives past me. That pos.

I had a customer needing a full trailer of shingles. 17 pallets worth. The only road to this place, had a bridge with a 4T sign. I sent it anyway. Like, how else am I getting on the property?

Our tractors are day cabs, 32ft trailers and a truck mounted forklift. Yet somehow that's not enough to convince Leo I'm delivering shingles to Ms. Debbies house on the street that says no trucks with 3 axles or more 😂

My brother is an owner OP. He makes $6k a week. That's 312k a year. It's possible. I have an old coworker who's local tanker making $140k. Im local flatbed making $95k so I'm right at the cusp. Lol

This isn't even that bad. Try being a residential flatbed driver. At least that's plenty of room to not hit cars. Most of the neighborhoods I deliver in the streets are narrow and there are cars parked along the curb. 😂 Then, if you do manage to safely park the truck, the Forklift is sliding all over the place with a bunk of dry wall. 😩

This is my biggest issue as a residential flatbed driver. Like I already committed, I can't back up now with 4 wheelers up my ass. I've seen some signs placed a good block down the street.

That sign, bridge weight signs and no trucks with more than 3 axle signs. Ahhh... The life of a residential flatbed f driver. Came across a bridge yesterday that said 28k pound limit. I sent it anyway... At 60k. Looks like the bridge is fine to me. 🤔

That sucks I make $1,500 running local flatbed. Hime every day. Most days I start my DL shift at 6 and get off at 2pm but lately I've been moving fast and can finish the route by 10:30. Go home and still get paid for the rest of the day. There are places that pay well locally but they are hard to find. I will never leave the company I'm with. Lol

Scariest thing in my career yet.

Is it too late to ask about local flatbed driving around in residential neighborhoods that have streets marked as no trucks? Like, what else am I supposed to do? People need their shingles.

To all my LTL drivers is this proper way to chain up in winter?

I drive local flatbed and I'm in a 2021 day cab. It has its issues but I love it. Tight turning radius makes it perfect for pulling U turns in cul de sac in these residential neighborhoods. The lack of power going up hill does suck. Also, the fact it senses any object as a threat and the dash lights up red forcing the truck to slam on the brakes automatically. I HATE that shit.

Do drivers that make $1,200 - $2,000 weekly, only do so because they work 70 or more hours a week?

Posted by Complex_Secretary_14@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 452 comments

ThatOneHelldiver@reddit

No that's illegal. You can legally only drive 11 hours a day. You can be on clock for 24 however. Personally, I run up to 8 stops a day. I average a 40hr work week. Sometimes I go over. I'm also paid daily though. So I get a flat rate no matter how many stops I have. I could have 1 stop. On which case, I go the fuck home after 2 hours and get paid for the whole day lol
