Lol what are their lawyers going to say? How dare you expose our NSA backdoors, please keep this quiet or else we will ruin your life within the grasp of the us juducial systems? MS can go choke on the CVEs they deny and it will give another reason to move off their product.

1000% I have a snapdragon surface laptop I've been trying to unload but I always make sure the person who is buying knows that it is a Snapdragon ARM processor. If they don't know what that is I refuse to sell it. These things need to be supported and so far it looks like they just fell by the wayside.

The add-ins that were paid for were rarely scrutinized by security teams (if your place could even afford to have security teams). The entire post of them complaining "we don't want your x" project like it's going to automatically make anything that isn't ai coded automatically immune to the pitfalls of security.

Myself and one other person are supporting 350 end users right now. HR told us to expect approximately 100 more employees by the end of the year. My manager told me that we don't need to hire another person in our department. Is it just me or is that completely unreasonable?

A guard coming in and saying they that they saw something new to them shouldn't be met with ridicule. Experience doesn't give a right to act callous to someone, infact I would wager that's why information technology managers and vp's seen robotic to some. Having empathy to show the ropes creates a better work environment. It's the same things that led to the Linux discussion of changing the mentality of RTFM or LMGTFY has created this unnecessary behavior of hostilitt to where no n one wants to share their issues in fear of being ridiculed.

100% agree. I let your resume talk about your technical experience. I might breeze how would you go figuring out about X , but not do a 5 question deep dive of it. Knowing where someone comes from and why they are interested in a position is much more important than "can you do x". I hired a dude solely on the fact cus he said " I just want money and a job" can you ask for anyone more truthful than that? Dude still tells me what's up without a paragraph of text.

Posted by Head-Web-404@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 285 comments

TU4AR@reddit

I once walked into a client that the first 5 ips of every network was SOLELY And ONLY for network printers. Example : 172.0.0.1-5 will be for the office. Got a 6th printer? 172.0.1.1-5 will be used for the next five Printers. 172.0.2.1-5 will be used for the third batch. So on and so fourth. So if you think your Networking is bad, just remember some guy got paid more than you to make these decisions.

New IT job, all servers EOSL

Posted by Tough-Appointment289@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 234 comments

Depends. I have a semi regular 7-3 so it doesn't eat away at those hours and most of the time it's like a day or two of work. I do try to set it up so they don't call me for that specific issue again but they keep me for repeat business later. I think last week I maybe worked five weekends total, one of those was a holiday.

100%. Fixing a rookies "I'll just migrate to the latest server without any planning" has made me a small fortune. See what is running, and if it only works on that OS. Plan, plan, then plan some more. Finally plan again and commit. Plan.

Nah fuck that. You guys maybe don't remember the Patriot Act when it was passed but I sure as hell do. It's just adding telemetry to Windows to see what your doing, you guys are blowing it out proportion. Keep being a copro shill and telling them yes daddy.

Hard disagree. Only based on these people know what they want to be responsible for and entrusting them with more than they feel comfortable would lead to items falling through. You can't force someone to want to do more, you would be better off to pouring in resources elsewhere.
