I frankly don’t believe them when they state those are their demands. In a fictional scenario where they got that within 10 years they are shooting rockets at Israelis again to take more. The entire national identity is built on revanchism

Greek pro-Palestinian groups plan ‘Day of Action’ targeting Israeli tourists

Slow_Principle_7079@reddit

You used the term colonization and I’m holding you to it. The Han forcibly sterilize, forcibly conduct abortions, and utilize other means of suppressing their population including murder. It’s absolutely a genocide of ever so slightly more polite means. The Israelis aren’t a unique evil they just didn’t get the memo that ethnically cleansing areas you want to conquer isn’t allowed post 1945 if you are a culturally western country as if the Soviets didn’t do the exact same shit in Prussia after winning WW2 (why is Kaliningrad ethnically Russian now?). Israel isn’t a unique evil it’s just a modern one judged by western standards because they are viewed as western

No, that’s just NYC being rather expensive. Prices vary by states by multiple dollars of which just going from Texas to Colorado a can of beans will increase to almost double

If you decide to join the US military as a career path, what factors do you take into account in deciding which branch to join?

Posted by YakClear601@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 174 comments

Slow_Principle_7079@reddit

If you wanna be badass, want objectively the best uniform, or have exceptionally low test scores then the marines are the choice. The army lets you pick your job based on scores so is solid for making sure you get the job you want. The navy has a high number of technical jobs and also lets you choose your job to a larger extent such as the nuclear subs which bring in some very very smart people and lets one “travel the world”. Air Force obviously is also super technical which means better job transferability but also gets the best conditions and is generally a bit more smart bc it has higher standards. Service academies produce officers and are highly competitive so most people do not go through those. Other paths to officer are ROTC and the last one would be applying for OCS school.

Americans are always complaining how bad the roads are where they live, myself included, but is there anyone here who lives in a place with good roads? What is it like?

Posted by reerock@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 557 comments

I no longer live there but Lubbock was the best driving experience I’ve ever had in my life. The highways are of good quality, the traffic is nonexistent beyond certain events, and the highway goes throughout the city in a very convenient way. Its not a good place to live but the driving was always a pleasure

Are there cowboys in every state?

Posted by Better-Pay-131@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 276 comments

Slow_Principle_7079@reddit

No, there aren’t. You aren’t going to find cowboys in Rhode Island. Cowboy culture is largely a product of the Great Plains of America which were great for cattle ranching which is why you see similar cultures in Mexico and Argentina that have similar environments. Other regions of the US have different environments which prevent Cowboy culture from emerging within them.

Why do black people in the US sound different?

Posted by Impressive-Coat1127@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 1069 comments

Slow_Principle_7079@reddit

They have had a couple hundred years to develop separate cultures reinforced by segregation. Most black people in the UK do not have a lineage extending past the 1950’s nor the numbers to really create a strong separate identity hence they are subsumed by the dominant culture unlike in America.

Eh, I think you are giving too much credit to practicality and not enough to ideology. People want to cut relations because isolationism has re-emerged in American politics due to the neoliberal policies of the past 50 years and the constant L’s taken in interventionism. The hotbed of support is in the Rustbelt which was decimated by offshoring and never quite recovered. People were/are pissed at offshoring which became an entirely anti foreign attitude in general

It’s generally pretty chill. It’s kinda like an autobahn in rural areas as far as no speed limit and no real safety worry as it’s just a straight line. It’s boring but in a chill way of which you can just get lost in your own thoughts or listen to whatever you have saved.
