technically not a “zombie” sorry, but: \> some sort of virus/phenomenon/whatever turns people into monsters \> most of the monsters are unique in their appearance. ones from infected characters who have pre-established personalities may have an appearance reflecting the character’s personality \> most of them are violent, but every now and then there is a chill monster that doesn’t attack unless provoked \> main character is an amnesiac who can turn into a monstrous form while still remaining sane \> while trying to find out who he was he meets other survivors and fights alongside/protects them from monsters and also just people who are evil \> big plot reveal is that the monsters were made as weapons, which the main character was an early prototype of \> the company behind this is trying to kill the heroes for some reason I haven’t come up with yet \> also turns out the monsters are still kind of sentient, and retain bits of their personalities \> after intentionally infecting herself, a villain from the beginning of the story fucks off to have some (mostly) off screen character development, shows up to save everyone from the final boss, who works for the evil company (she does this because after she leaves to be a huge kaiju her minions join the hero) \> final boss guys other monster minions turn on him after he’s defeated and eat him or something \> story ends with everyone promising to rebuild society, and use the evil company’s tech to help people instead of hurt them \> maybe it’s a metaphor for ai, idk

Sometime in the future, Technology has advanced to a point where almost all disease and illness is curable. The latest scientific breakthrough is a supposed cure for death itself. Artificial nano-organelles, that are infused into a patients cells to repair telomeres and totally prevent the effects of aging. After centuries of success, this trillion dollar breakthrough is now a staple of healthcare worldwide. 95% of the developed worlds population are nano-enhanced, with tri-centenarians living and looking like sprightly 30 somethings. However, this unnatural, divine creation, still subjects to the natural order. Patient zero was a 235 year old Corsican man living in Norway, who had begun developing strange rabid-like symptoms. Notably, he had an untameable urge to bite at the doctors who came near him. For all their scientific and technological marvel, they could not pin the root cause of this behaviour. Their seemed to be no extraneous health detriments; aside from these strange symptoms, the patient was completely physically healthy. The only ‘treatment’ that seemed to work was to simply satiate his desire to bite and eat meat, whilst keeping him securely away from other people. The thread of investigation ran dry, but over the course of the next 5 years, dozens of similar cases cropped up around the world. Horror stories of people found half eaten, with the suicide inflicted corpse of their attacker nearby, probably driven there by guilt. Perfectly healthy, fully cognitive people, we’re uncontrollably attacking and eating other people, and nobody knew why. It had been theorised since day one, that it could be something to do with the nano-organelles, but no test or hypothesis ever yielded a conclusion. In the eyes of the public, this conclusion had already been drawn, but in a global governmental effort to tame hysteria, these conclusions were discredited with false reports and misdirection. Most people were happy to believe the reports, knowing they were infected on a cellular level with these would-be culprits. It took another 2 years, a dozen more cases, and an independent investigation funded by paranoid oligarchs, to finally discover the truth. The nano-organelles themselves, had co-evolved with their hosts. The immovable force of evolution had marched on within each individual, causing the nano-organelles to grow stronger, and gain more influence over their host. The physical effects were too subtle to notice, but after the forceful removal and analysis of living brain tissue from an unfortunate victim of the oligarchs independent study, the implied psychological effects became clear. The nano-organelles weren’t just enhancing people physically, they were enhancing them mentally, by increasing the drive for the subconscious minds deepest rooted desires. Upon this discovery, it was theorised that the rabid behaviour was a result of a global societal shift in perspective that occurred after the implementation of the nano-organelles. With humanities newfound pseudo-immortality, came a renewed aversion of death, in all its forms. The slaughter of animals for food came to be seen as an affront to life, a disgusted upon activity reserved only for the most desperate of poor and most sickeningly wealthy. But no matter the societal views at the forefront of our consciousnesses, the instinctual taste for meat developed over 100,000 years of human evolution, still lingered in the back of our subconscious. This lingering desire, coupled with the yearning for forbidden fruit brought on by abstinence, is what caused the outbreak of flesh craving behaviour exhibited by many. The Corsican was most likely the first, due to the added longing for a taste of home, which he would have found in his meat filled Mediterranean diet all those decades ago, that was so scarcely come by in the foraging focused culture of Norway. Now that the news has leaked, that the nano-organelles *were* responsible for the outbreak, the public were enraged. They had been sold a dream of eternal youth, baptised in its fountain, to discover the devil inside them. Not only this, but the preachers for leaders who sold them the dream, had covered up the truth and lied to them for years. They were scared, angry, and betrayed. But little did they know, these would be the final three ingredients in the recipe for their total demise. Mass hysteria ensued. The subconscious desires that we’re being enhanced by the nano-invaders, that up until now most had had the strength of consciousness to override, we’re loosed upon the world. Anger, violence, revenge, all the dark tenets of the human psyche, we’re now jet-propelled to society’s front-of-mind. Reason had abandoned them. The self-propagating ball of action and retaliation had rolled past the point of no return. Like wild dogs with no conscience to leash them, humanity was doomed to roll and roll into the valley of self-inflicted extinction, with untethered, indiscriminate violence as their vehicle. This ball has been rolling for 12 years now. We, the 5%, the ones once unworthy of eternal youth, continue to live out our mortal lives in this hell-scape, as the now entirely mindless hoard of what used to be people, rampage on in their list for violence. Sustained by their nano-imprisoners, never aging, never decaying, never dying… that is, without our intervention. A simple truth has become clear to us - sometimes you have to fight fire with fire, just don’t let the flames consume you. This is our purpose now, to cleanse the world with flames of violence and return the natural order to its natural state, so that we may once again live in peace. We may be mortal, but we are not meek, those of us shall not survive. We are not meek, but we shall inherit the earth.

TomakaTom@reddit

Either that, or I was thinking maybe instead of the 5% of non-nano-enhanced people having to fight off the rest of the immortal zombies, it was like a spiritual battle between those who had succumbed to the mindless drive for violence, and those who had the strength of mind to overcome these desires. Like, the people who had nano-things inside them still, but their subconscious desires for revenge and violence were held in check by their mindfulness and practice of patience and peace. Which could lead to an interesting dynamic, because the only way to get rid of the mindless violence zombies, is to kill them manually, so how do you do that whilst also remaining peaceful of mind. What do you do when your loved one gets shredded by a zombie, how do you overcome your instincts and not become a mindless rage zombie yourself? So it’s like a bunch of spiritual monks walking around killing these violent zombie people, whilst remaining pure minded and doing it all in the name of love and peace.

It's been five years since the zombie apocalypse started. Small human colonies survive just barely Mc was a vet. Only person with medical knowledge in the colony. He is the one in charge of humanly dispatching of the injuried. Last week he disposed of the daughter of the leader of the colony after a zombie bite. Magic trader arrives in the city. Bringing news from the outside. He is happy to report on new discoveries and asks to speak with mc. Mc is getting ready to kill another zombie bro. Grabs his tools as the trader enters the hospital room. Claims that the infection can be survived and it only needs medical care and antibiotics. Survival rate of 80%. Mc says it is bullshit. But the patient begs for a chance. They strap the patient to the bed and put him into a cell. The patient suffers through the night. Begs to be killed. Mc blames the trader and drinks himself to sleep. Several days pass. The patient is recovering. The patient describes it as worse than death. Most people reaching that stage had been humanly put down. Mc has murdered hundreds of friends and family. The leader goes to his own room and shoots himself. Colony is in disarray. They want to exile mc. MC leaves. Knowing he has murdered hundreds because of a "mistake" The patient becomes immune to the virus.

>Some idiot scientist crosses genes from the rabies virus with cordyceps mushroom, it breaks out and infects people through body fluid contact >Infected people act like the zombies in movies except they die and can't function with injuries like normal people, so they are a lot harder to distinguish from uninfected >A huge effort is put into corralling the infected and trying to treat their symptoms >Society doesn't immediately collapse but declines extraordinarily slowly, sometimes infected people maintain functionality and can still work and be productive, they're just like schizo/paranoid >Main character has infected loved one, believes getting them help at the corral is not good, seeks out alternative medicine >Society is maintained and MC has to go through the typical channels to get care, but struggles to avoid getting them seen by a doctor >Action scenes mainly consist of random attacks by 1-3 zombies at a time, looks a lot like mugging >Halfway through the movie, government decides no cure exists and the best way to eliminate the disease is through extermination, corrals have always been in this mindset for quarantine but news reports keep coming out of the disease breaking containment constantly which led to the final decision >MC is afraid for their loved one so they smuggle them over the border to a different country with a different stance; this part plays out a bit like weekend at bernies >New country has the same issue, quarantines and a steadily declining society >MC struggles being an immigrant, finding care, hiding loved one and their disease >Eventually loved one cracks and attacks MC, leading to the belief that MC is infected >Loved one dies tragically, MC's struggle was futile >MC is immune to the disease from constant ultra low dose exposure, their antibodies were the cure all along >MC gets admitted to new country's quarantine corral, many people there are scared and crazy, everyone is fitted with immobility collars that basically kill you when activated >Occasionally someone cracks and goes into attack mode, guards activate collars >A year time skip, MC is still there despite everyone else in when they were admitted being killed >Someone realizes this, learns MC is immune, gets sent for testing >a vaccine is made, mass produced and sold across the country >Only rich people can afford it, it's been 3 years since the outbreak happened and a good chunk of them ended up in vaults or bunkers, cut off from a majority of society and worked from home >A less than effective cure is eventually developed that prevents the disease from killing the host but doesn't absolve the schizo/paranoia effects and makes the infected basically meat puppets for the rich to enslave/exploit >Movie ends with MC taking their own life The movie is less about "zombie cool" or "shoot em action fun" and more about a real and objective take on what would actually happen in our modern society. There's class struggle, otherism and prejudice, exposure of several broken systems within and without government, and ultimately a tragic end of the main character, who sacrificed everything for hope, got it too late, and was ultimately chewed up and broken by the world despite their contribution to improve it.

The year is 2469 Humanity has begun to evolve past biology into mechanical half-machine bodies. An Alien race goes to war with humanity and implants a computer virus, turning humanity against itself. Leonardo DiCaprio is a depressed former US Marine, because America never dies, who must now save all of halfman-kind with the aid of a sexy 19 year old, whom he is *definitely* not sleeping with. Accompanied by an Evil Businessman Charles Dance, who is cooperating with the evil chinese, I mean, evil Aliens.

Add some decent CGI, make the 19 year old the 'strong independent woman' character, add some MCU style jokes, and give it an unreasonably high budget and you got yourself a Disney+ movie.

I’d like a war action movie where there’s also a George Romero-style slow reanimated zombie virus breaking out. So despite needing to unite against the dead, people are still fighting each other at a large scale. And then many of the later battle scenes would hinge on creative use of the nearby zombies to attract them towards the enemy, or making sure to hit center mass on enemy soldiers at a distance so that they reanimate intact and start attacking their entrenched comrades.  It could end up being a hopeful ending where the armies put aside their differences and unite for humanity. Or they could go bleak with it and have the good guys and bad guys fight until the bitter end only to have the winners face an even worse enemy that they created. WW1 would probably be a great setting for it, with the bleak hellscapes and completely pointless bloodshed anyway.

The Vendread archetype in Yugioh has an interesting spin on the genre. Basically a dude who was turned into a mindless zombie finds a picture of his lover, which causes him to regain his memories and start using his undead powers to kill off the other zombies. It’s better than I’m making it sound, I’m just kinda dumb.

I remember playing Dying Light, and very early on in the game there was like a random television playing CDC guidelines or something. And they touched on something like the legal/ethical concerns of how you shouldn’t go out and just kill as many zombies as possible. They were still considered people, albeit ones infected with a disease. Being infected didn’t automatically give you carte blanche to just kill them with impunity.

Ok, here is a pretty wild zombie movie. How about it, for a change, we actually follow the military? you know, the average joe in the army, taking orders right at the start before we know how the virus actually works. Like, imagine being that soldier, and your commander tells you to fire on civilians trying to flee the quarentine because we don't know if they are infected or how the infection works, and them we follow that soldier as things start going to shit. Like, give us the POV of the soldier that shot Joel's daughter for a whole movie or game. Make the game be like spec ops the line, and make us to immoral shit because we don't know how stuff works.
