Sausage mash and veg or beans Bolognese with pasta Chicken and chorizo rice with peppers, onions tomato and halloumi Jacket potato with various toppings Frittata or omelette with salad and new potatoes Chilli and rice Chicken or bacon pasta in a tomato base Salad and new potatoes with a chicken thing Fish fingers chips and beans I'm a fan of traybakes where you bung everything together in a tray and leave to cook for half hour, works well with tomato based meals

I’m 19, starting pharmacy school in Sept, and I’ve never owned a phone or been inside a clothing shop. My parents’ strict control left me clueless about the world, and I feel so pathetic and poor. How do I unlearn this financial trauma?

Vinted is good for clothes, you can buy better quality brands you like for less. I would suggest having a day out checking out clothes shops, trying things to get an idea of size, and looking at their average price, then go on vinted looking for the brands you liked A bank account like starling where you can assign pots of money for different things is good. My daughter has one and divides it up into food shop, travel, going out, etc, so she can keep to a budget.

My brother has no passport//photo ID, how likely will the cinema care?

They will likely ask. I have a 15-year-old that looks younger and she does get asked. You can get[id cards](https://www.myidcard.co.uk/under-16s/#:~:text=My%20ID%20Card%20for%20teenagers%20%E2%80%93%20Proof%20of%20age%20card%20for%20under%2016s&text=Or%2C%20if%20you%20use%20the,look%20older%20than%20your%20age.) that are accepted but probably too late for you now. My tips would be to definitely not approach the desk with him if you are buying tickets, and have him stand to one side of you and slightly behind your shoulder when going through if you want to try and get away with it. It has worked occasionally with my daughter. We got caught out when she came with me to buy the tickets

What skin care products are you buying?

The ordinary is a great range of products, my teenage daughters use their niacinamide 10+zinc, and it's really good on their skin for congestion, spots and oiliness. It's only £5 for the small bottle. Simple skin range is also really good and not too expensive for a cleanser and moisturizer. Boots do an offer day on Tuesdays called £10 Tuesday, usually a variety of skin/ hair / makeup deals with a good amount of money off if you fancy a treat, it is online only I think though

I wear jersey straight leg trousers similar to [these ](https://www.marksandspencer.com/jersey-straight-leg-trousers-with-stretch/p/clp60506862#intid=pid_pg1pip48g2r17c2%7Cprodflag_plp_ts_QP_100+) with a uniform top that is hip length. Exactly! She was so annoyed because she does want to go to university, albeit not via A levels! She's had enough of the school environment and wants a new start with new people at college instead.

I've got a daughter about to do her gcses, she's predicted really good grades, and knows what she wants to do. She's going the vocational route as she wants to start getting the practical skills she needs for the degree course she wants to do straight away. However, the pressure from the school to go to sixth form instead has been too much. She's had the sixth form head ask her four times if she wants to change her mind, and when she's said " no, I already have a course to go to and explained her plans" he's blatantly said, ' don't you want to go to university?' , as if A levels are the only route! It's clearly because they see her as a good bet for pushing their a level achievements up on the chart.

Has anyone ever hired a housekeeper rather than a cleaner?

Seal-island-girl@reddit

Yes, I do these as a carer.any laundry and putting clean clothes away tasks can be built into the call. I also do hoovering and bin emptying as part of it. You can also have separate shopping calls, housework calls and even support calls which are possibly a mix of these with socialising as well, such as going out for a coffee, or just company in the house.

There's a lot going for a job that you can switch off from when you finish and gives you time or flexibility to pursue things you enjoy doing. If you can make it work moneywise it's not an issue.

I live in a seaside town with many holiday makers at a big camp which is where the shop is. So I make a variety of things with a coastal theme, mainly because I just like trying all different types of making. So I sew makeup bags, glasses cases and a few other bits. Mosaic ( beach huts and coasters) bit of beaded jewellery, little houses on driftwood, mobiles/garlands to hang up.Bit of lino printing. I did 3d design at college, so it's great as it allows me to indulge myself a bit making stuff, anything that sells well gets a repeat spot. It doesn't make me a huge wage earning amount, but it buys a few nice things or tickets, or last year it helped me fund the stuff my daughter needed to move to uni. I'm in with a lovely bunch too , so I've made friends as well

Was a goldsmith (mostly repairs) for 25 years, part time for the last 8. Circumstances there meant I made a decision to leave and do the weekend job I had as my main one instead - I became a domicilary carer. Everyone was worried about me missing it, which I didn't and still don't. It gave me the opportunity to work with some flexibility, which in turn meant a year later I was able to take up the chance to be involved in a pop up craft shop. I'm still there, five years later, I make my own products at home ( various things) and sell in the shop about once every 3-4 weeks.i make what I like to make, the job pays the bills ( and I actually enjoy helping all my older people). If it feels right, go for it .

Wow, that's kind of crazy with the water. Sorry I didn't see it was from 2024. Maybe some kind of retail or admin within a zoo or wildlife place might be a good start due to the physical limitations you have at the moment. Maybe ask your council if there's any help with moving if you find a job in a different area? Shelter may also have good advice.

What about a live in job initially? I'm thinking it might solve the issue of finding the money to find somewhere to live. It doesn't have to be a permanent idea, but it might give you the chance to earn a bit of money, and some experience whilst you have a think and look round. Possibly domestic staff(hotel or private house), leisure industry, private schools, etc? If you got a job, would your parents help initially with moving out costs if you said you could pay them back? You could look on spare room for a house share, but you still need some money upfront to pay for it, that's the issue. [Chester zoo](https://www.derby-college.ac.uk/news/chester-zoo-and-dcg-offer-apprenticeship-opportunities-for-tomorrows-wildlife-champions/) offers zookeeper apprenticeships

Sounds like you live near me- massive holiday camp? I must admit I know people can be off here, but I did what you advised when we moved here 16 years ago and it works. It also helped moving here with tiny children, as you get to know others via schools etc. my neighbours were lovely from the start, and I used the local shops most days. I know we have alot of what is considered old families here who have generations that have been here donkeys years, and are stuck in the past. Main gripe with new housing is the lack of infrastructure to support, such as pressure on doctors schools etc. I'm firmly a local in the pub and know many to say hello to now. I make sure I make the effort to chat to new people I come across. I love living in a seaside town.

Alongside all the above comment, you can be a domiciliary career as well as one that works within a care home. This involves going to people's houses and caring for them. There you'll usually get a rota and various calls of different lengths depending on the needs of the person. I mention this as very often Domiciliary care can be a little bit more flexible regarding shifts and they are always looking for people at evenings and weekends. The only other thing to bear in mind is because of the training beforehand you are sometimes tied into a set length of contract before you can leave. Otherwise you have to pay the training cost back. Before I decided to work in care, I thought about how I would feel about washing people, wiping bottoms( bowel movements can often be quite messy with older people) having to clean up incontinence mess. You have to be patient when respecting someone's independence when it takes them five minutes to walk 10 metres to the toilet. I would say the ability to be sociable, cheerful , patient and kind, whilst being able to encourage them to do the things in their best interests and also respect their independence, is very important to the job.

Is anyone familiar with BIMM's Performers College for Musical Theatre?

The three links are for specialist theatre/ music theatre unis which have a good reputation. If she likes the idea of coming over here for study, I would check those out. It is a minefield trying to figure what's best! I would say a lot depends on how often she would like to come home and how much that fits within your budget. Most unis are closed between mid May to late September here, if that helps.

My daughter is studying songwriting and production at icmp in London. Her boyfriend is at Waterbear doing the same in Brighton. Both were initially at a music college in Brighton. They are really happy with the courses and what they are learning. Bimm is not as good as it used to be and is riding on past reputation a little. A lot of students find the courses disorganised, much of this is due to a corporate takeover about 3 years ago, when they made redundant many long-term staff. It would be worth her looking at icmp which has locations in London Liverpool and Leeds , Waterbear in Brighton and lccm which is based in London as well. If she does come over here for any of those universities she will have to find private student accommodation as neither none of the unis provide it associated with the universities. ( they're many options for this) Hope that helps

Is my dad an alcoholic? How does one take on drinking culture?

Posted by Bright_Tax628@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 243 comments

I absolutely understand where you are coming from, OP. It's likely he's drinking something around 70-80 odd units a week, and it will affect his health even if not now, not very far from now. I know of a few people that have done this, and it affects everything. He's a functional alcoholic. Could he try drinking the 0% for every other drink? It's really hard to see someone you love hellbent on destroying themselves for the sake of socialising, I've seen it. He's never going to want to fully give it up but if you could at least get him to cut down it may help prolong his life a bit lot more. I'm sorry

Some of our regular meals. I try to alternate low effort with a bit more effort, no need to be slaving at the stove every night. Roast dinner Sausage and mash Jacket potato with various toppings Chilli Spaghetti Bolognese Tomato/spinach/ bacon pasta bake Cottage pie Some kind of chicken or fish freezer thing with new potatoes and salad/veg One pan chicken and chorizo with paella rice Cheesy pasta with broccoli and peas. Get a gammon joint, they cover a multitude of dinners. Cook it up, then it can be used for sandwiches, chopped in pasta, in omelettes, sliced with potatoes/ chips and veg/salad and on jacket potato

The simply cook pots are fab. If you go on their website, you can subscribe and initially get three sets for £3. They are then monthly delivery for £10 for four. They are great because each dinner only takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and it takes you through the recipe. You can choose which recipes you have. Even if you don't do it for longer than a couple of months, it's a good way to get started trying something different.

Who has hopeful stories about elderly parents and incontinence?

I used to look after a person that was doubly incontinent. He mainly went first thing in the morning, so if we got to him before he went in the bed so to speak, it was ok. Some people are still regular when they need to go, just they don't themselves recognise it, so it could be easyish to manage at home with the correct care. It depends on how irregular and how often his movements are.

I think possibly not- I'm probably one of the few that it did actually work for and made me do it. I know there's a load of people that didn't even bother adding to it. Then the other end where the parents would have done it anyway and it worked out well, then there's people like me that probably wouldn't have thought to do it, would have liked to have done it and it's made them do it. I most likely would have set up some kind of saving account, but I doubt I would have set up anything other than a basic cash account

Both mine had/have it. Eldest one matured this year. I put £10 a month in as that's all I could do, until 3 years ago when I upped it to £20. She got £4500, which was really handy as she needed an apple Mac pro for music production at uni , so some paid for that, and the rest is going into an ISA .I wouldn't have been able to lay out for a £2000 laptop myself. Youngest matures in 3 years and inline to do the same. There were quite a few people that I know that didn't bother to put any money in whatsoever and they've come out with only £300-400. I knew I couldn't do much, but thought, I'd do what I can, so if they need something for uni, it's there, and to kick start their savings

Fan and electric and I would recommend one with a timer to turn the oven off. Handy to pop your dinner in, put on timer, and nip to the pub for a pint while it cooks, or if you're cooking something like a stew and are absent minded about remembering to turn it off. I've had a cheap oven and I'd recommend paying a bit more if you can. My very basic one needed replacing when it got very one sided with heating. Spent a little more( not hugely , but not the cheaply) ,and it works much better.
