Has anyone made a career change that nobody understood but you knew was right for you?

I'm getting a little sick of various office-based jobs I do for universities, not paid loads but secure with a good pension etc but getting very tempted to change to something completely different that feels right for me but I know nobody around me would understand.
Just wondering if anyone else on here has done similar and how it went?
Thanks
