Can someone help me understand the obsession with football?

I sympathise with you my wife luckily couldn’t care less. We went to a local retail park to do some shopping a while back and wondered why it was so empty till we noticed what was on the tvs in curry’s from outside I don’t get it either one of my wife’s friends came round with her husband a few years back and asked if he could watch the football not realising we don’t have sky. Shame you’re going to have to make small talk. We used to have to make an appointment to see the in-laws as they are so obsessed, they now live in Devon miles away from us so that one solved itself. F1 has gone the same way to a certain extent with some people. There are plenty of males around who are like you so maybe time to move on.

DOES anybody remember an insect called a "may bug"?

Why are public toilet doors always 'pull' to exit?

Posted by Educational_Way3900@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 144 comments

RobsOffDaGrid@reddit

The main reason is health and safety, all doors can not open onto / into a corridor. If they did how many people a day would get smacked in the face by the door.

They should also start from the back and start from the front to disembark but only say 5 rows at a time. Beets me why everyone stands up as soon as the plane stops. I’m nearly always the last on and off a plane. Every time I’ve landed anywhere I get to the bag reclaim before my bag does

Unfortunately in house certification or course done by employers are not always recognised by other firms unless you’ve got cpcs or npors which you need to work on most construction sites.

What happens to my heating system if I run out of oil?

Posted by RaspberryJammm@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 18 comments

RobsOffDaGrid@reddit

If you run out of oil the boiler will just time out and won’t try and light until you push the reset button. Once the tank is refilled If you have a light sensor that pushes into the boiler to monitor the flame is lit, pull out the sensor give it a wipe and shine a touch onto it, what this does is fool the boilers electronics into thinking the flame is lit keeping the pump running pulling fuel into the combustion chamber which will eventually relight.

Why is being cold at home so normalised in the UK?

Posted by Automatic-Key-3798@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 3015 comments

RobsOffDaGrid@reddit

Warm air holds more moisture than cool, the mold problem is all down to lack of ventilation modern buildings have to be air tight, to a point of now being too hot in summer. My neighbours are always complaining about the house being damp they hare very open the windows even in summer. The trickle vents on our windows are open for most of the year

Posted by what_katy_did@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 91 comments

RobsOffDaGrid@reddit

The coast guard give regular forecasts they are announced on channel 16 which all maritime craft must monitor, a different channel is then announced to hear the forecast depending on the region you are in or heading for. They are essential for staying safe at sea where bad weather can arise quickly

Is it worth it to get induction hob with the rising of electricity prices in the UK?

Posted by Fururelawyer@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 367 comments

RobsOffDaGrid@reddit

Induction hobs are about 95% efficient against gas at about 30%. Electricity is the most efficient way of heating liquids Induction hob can boil water quicker than an electric kettle. Once the food is upto the required temperature it takes minimal power to maintain the heat, essentially it turns itself off until the temperature falls below the set temperature you have set. Induction works by magnetism that’s why you need the right pans. You can usually set timers on all the different heating zones. You can put your hand on an induction hob even after removing the pan pretty much straight away. Ours can even tell if say a fork has been put on it. We have a fully electric fan assisted cooker as no gas where we live. Nearly everything cooks quicker than the instructions say on food packaging. Just wipe clean glass top. Fit and forget pretty much

Biking in the New Forest with other people having a walk - is it rude for me to bell on my bike to let walkers know I'm right behind them?

Posted by Eligatorator@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 327 comments

RobsOffDaGrid@reddit

Not rude at all, the problem is that most walkers don’t or are too stupid to know that a lot of the marked routes in the new forest the ones with the numbers on the posts, are for cyclists as we are not allowed to just ride anywhere in the forest. As a pedestrian you can walk wherever you like.
